Free Falling

Chapter Twelve

I woke up the next morning, with Karla jumping on me, while yelling "Wake up!" in my ear. I groaned, turning to my side, lifting one of my wings to unbalance her and make her fall off my bed. "Bitch," she muttered, under her breath, making me sit up laughing.

"What did you expect?" I looked towards her, got out of bed and picked up Hazel who had waken up from the sound of Karla and my scuffle.

"Come on, you need to sing," Karla pulled me out of my room, with me protesting the whole time.

"I'm not even awake yet," I complained, as I was shoved into the dining room.

"You don't need to be awake to sing," Karla grumbled.

I sighed, giving up. "Fine, what song am I singing,"

Karla held up my Ipod so I could see the song she chose.

"Really?" I laughed upon seeing, Damn You Look Good and I'm Drunk (Scandalous) by Cobra Starship on my playlist. Karla nodded her head feverishly, while smiling a big grin.

"Fine," I smirked, as the guys walked in from their smoke break. "Crazy," I muttered as she rushed over to Johnny, who shied over to Jimmy, eyeing her warily.

"Karla, leave Johnny alone," I chided her, as she slunk back to me, acting innocent.

"I don't know what you're talking about," Karla smiled, as she waved my Ipod in front of my face. "Now sing,"

I grabbed the Ipod out of her hand, then pushed play, and started to sing "Karla's Song".

*** Matt's POV ***

The guys and I walked back into the house to see Ann holding Hazel, not looking amused as Karla was holding her Ipod in front of her. As soon as Brian shut the door, Karla bee-lined to Johnnys side, making him stand closer to Jimmy.

"Karla, leave Johnny alone," Ann chided her, making Karla walk back towards her.

"I don't know what you're talking about," Karla sang, as she swung Ann's Ipod in front of her face. "Now sing," Karla demanded.

Ann glared at Karla as she took her Ipod and pushed play.

As soon as Ann started singing there was no doubt in my mind that she was my daughter, with all the passion she put into this song. She let her voice warble in the correct places making the song, just that much more her own.

"Happy?" Ann asked, Karla, when the song was finally done.

"Very," Karla smiled.

"do you sing anything else?" I asked curiously.

Ann shrugged, "I sing most anything, except for country or Jazz," with this she gave Hazel to Karla then walked over to the piano and pulled out some sheet music to "The Rose by Bette Midler". A couple seconds later she sat on the bench and started to play and sing.

"Definitely Matt's kid," Brian smirked, when Ann was done. "Plays piano and sings,"

Ann rolled her eyes as she walked to the kitchen, punching Karla's arm on her way there.

"Ow!" Karla yelped, glaring at Ann. "I'm going to bruise now,"

"Good," Ann called from the kitchen, as she pulled pans out of a drawer.

"That's not nice!" Karla yelled into the kitchen making Ann laugh in response.

Karla put Hazel on the floor whispering something in her ear, making Hazel crinkle up her nose, and smile. It was really cute, but looked extremely sinister.

Not soon after Karla finished whispering in Hazels ear, Hazel spread her wings out, lifted her arms up, and started "rawring" as she walking into the kitchen.

*** Ann's POV ***

I heard Hazel walk into the kitchen "rawring" and flapping her wings, making a light gust come into the kitchen.

"Oh, no!" I said in mock horror as I sat on the sink, while making scrambled eggs. Hazel laughed as she came closer to me, still "rawring".

Karla peaked around the corner and laughed. Go get Karla, I thought to Hazel, making her turn and look at Karla, smiling her little evil grin. Karla motioned that she should continue going after me, making Hazel return her gaze to me.

"Go play with Karla," I laughed pointing towards the designated mischief maker. "I'm making your breakfast,"

At the mention of breakfast, Hazel instantly turned on Karla, and attempted to scare her with her "rawring". Karla ran into the other room, making Hazel stumble after her.

I laughed as Matt walked into the room. "What's up?" I asked, jumping down to the floor.

"Did you want a ride to work?" Matt asked, as he leaned against a counter.

I moved the eggs around in the pan, before answering him. "I guess," I started slowly, turning towards him. "But you don't have to...I can walk,"

"No, it's fine," Matt said, squeezing my shoulder. "I need to gas the car up anyways,"

I stood their contemplating for a little bit. "But don't you guys travel on a bus?"

Matt nodded his head, "Yes, usually we do. It's a rental car I had picked up in Illinois, the roadies are driving the bus back to Huntington Beach."

I nodded my head in understanding, turning back to the eggs. "Thanks, I will take that ride" I said, quietly, before he left the room.

After I had Hazel all fed, I got her dressed and took her to daycare, then Matt and I went to the call center I worked at.

"Turn here," I told Matt, pointing to the call center.

Matt stopped short upon seeing police cars swarming the building.

"What the..." I breathed, confused out of my mind.
