My alarm buzzed and before I could reach it, it stopped. I opened my eyes. He was still here. I smiled to myself.
“Good morning.” He greeted me, barely opening his eyes.
“Morning.” I replied.
“What time do you have to be at work?”
I looked over at the clock.
“About an hour and a half.”
“Why do you get up so early then?”
“I need time to wake up and get pretty.” I chuckled, rolling on my back.
“You don’t need makeup.”
I looked over to him and one eye was open. He quickly shut it. I smiled lightly, throwing the cover off me and sitting up.
“Wait.”
He grabbed my arm pulling me back down. Pulling me on top of him he kissed me, letting his fingers caress my neck. We pulled back.
“May I?” he asked as he rubbed where my neck met my shoulder.
Shocked he actually asked, I agreed and he leaned up kissing down my neck until his mouth met the spot where his fingers were.
I felt a sharp prick in my skin and gasped at the feeling. He drank until I was almost dizzy and then pulled away.
“Thank you.”
I smiled and nodded.
I finally crawled out of bed and went to the shower then dressed and pulled my hair back. “I made you breakfast. Thought you might need your strength.” He announced from the couch.
“Thank you.” I blushed.
I quickly ate the breakfast he made me and grabbed my purse.
“Well I have to go.”
He nodded.
“I guess you’re going to stay here today?” I questioned, knowing he couldn’t go out until dark.
“If you don’t mind.”
“No, make yourself at home.”
“I appreciate it.”
“Well, I gotta go. I’ll see you later.” I waved, heading for the door.
He was instantly behind me. He hesitantly wrapped his arms around me.
“Have a good day.” He said in my ear.
“Thanks.” I smiled, turning my head to see his face.
He planted a soft kiss on my cheek and smiled before I headed out the door for work.
“Later, guys!” I hollered, exiting the restaurant.
I was walking home. It was chilly out tonight and I wrapped my arms around myself and kept walking.
“Hey, Cat.” I heard from behind me.
I jumped and turned around. It was Matt.
“Uh, hey Matt.” I forcefully smiled.
“How ya been?”
“Uh, fine. You?”
“I’ve been good. You seen Brian?”
“Not since last night.” I lied.
He nodded.
“Well tell him I need to talk to him when you see him next.”
“I will. Well..bye.”
He smiled and I started walking away. I glanced behind me and he was gone.
I walked a little faster to my apartment and quickly opened the door and locked it when I entered.
I sigh heavily and sat my purse down.
“Hey.” Brian smiled, startling me.
“Oh, het.” I smiled back.
“Um, how was work?”
“It was ok. Same ol’ same ol’.”
I took a seat on the couch and he stood in the doorway to the hallway.
“I saw Matt.”
I saw his body stiffen.
“And?”
“He asked if I saw you and said he walked to talk to you.”
He rolled his eyes.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“Why does he want to talk to you?’
“I don’t know.”
I could see he didn’t want to talk about it so I left it alone.
“You hungry?” he asked, breaking the silence.
“Yeah I am. What do you want?” I asked, getting up.
“I’ll make you something if you want.”
“You don’t have to do that.”
“I…I want to…”
He looked down to his feet.
“Well, thanks. That would be great.”
He smiled and went and opened the fridge.
“How about some steak?” he called from the kitchen.
“Sure, that’s fine.”
He was actually a pretty good cook. The steak he made was delicious. A little on the rare side of my taste but I didn’t want to offend him. He made me a baked potato and vegetables to go along with it. He just stuck with the steak.
As we finished our food he watched me take a drink from my water.
“Was it good?”
“Yeah, it was really good. Thanks.”
He smiled and took the dishes to the sink. I don’t know why he was being so sweet to me all of a sudden, but I secretly liked it.
I yawned and went to the couch. He followed me soon, taking a seat beside me.
“Tired?”
“Yeah.” I nodded.
“Want to go to bed?”
“I think I might watch TV for a little bit.”
He nodded and I turned on the TV.
After flipping channels for 15 minutes I decided there wasn’t anything on worth watching and turned it off.
“I think I’m going to lay down now.”
I got up and he stayed still looking forward.
“You can with me if you want…” I suggested.
He glanced at me and stood up following me into my room.
I crawled under the covers and he switched off the light.
“Can I… lay down?”
Since when did he become so shy?
I nodded sleepily and he crawled in beside me.
“Can I ask you a question?”
“Sure.”
“What’s it like living as long as you have?”
“Lonely.” He answered dryly.
“Why? Don’t you have friends? Isn’t Matt your friend?”
“He is and I do have other friends but…it’s lonely because I have no one to share my life with.”
Wow, he did have a soft side…
I didn’t know what to say. He looked at me, like was waiting for a response.
“Why did your girlfriend bite you?”
“Because she was an evil bitch.”
“Oh…did you love her?”
He didn’t answer and we sat in silence again.
“I thought I did.”
He was on his back with his arm over his eyes.
“Did you know she was…a vampire?”
“No, not until she bit me.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Why?” he chuckled.
“Because she hurt you obviously and you’ve lived this whole time by yourself.”
He removed his hand and looked at me. His mouth opened like he was going to say something but nothing came out.
“Why are you being so nice to me?”
“I don’t know.” He mumbled, getting up.
“Where are you going?” I asked sitting up.
“Out somewhere.”
“Well…are you coming back?”
“I don’t know.”
And he was gone.

When I started to fall asleep I felt cool arms wrap around me. I opened my eyes and Brian was laying beside me.
“You came back.” I muttered, sleepily.
He kissed my cheek.
“Go to sleep. I’ll be here in the morning.”
I fell asleep with his cool arms around me. I had never felt more safe in my entire life.
