Fate Exposed

Chapter 12

Matt and I eventually went to sleep. I kept replaying the events of tonight in my mind. If I could I would relive it again and again. It was by far the best thanksgiving I had ever had. The ones I spent with my family were with out a doubt ones to cherish but this one was like a whole new chapter in my life had finally begun after waiting for 3 years. I finally knew I had friends and most of all I knew I had Matt.

I forced mysel out of bed to take my shower, Matt was already down stairs writing songs and what not. I grabbed a granola bar and some water.

"Good you're up!" Matt greeted me as he walked into the kitchen.

"Yes I am!" I smiled as he pulled me into a hug.

“How would you feel about going somewhere with me today?” Matt looked down at me.

“As long as I’m with you, I’m all in” I smiled up at him.

He smiled down at me which revealed his dimples. I loved his dimples. They made me melt inside. He is so adorable.

“I want to take you to meet my parents today” Matt spoke.

“That sound fun” I squeaked.

“Really?” Matt said sounding shocked. I walked away from him and went over began to walk up stairs to get a sweatshirt and shoes.

“Yeah, why not?” I replied. I could hear Matt following closely.

“Well because of your, you know” Matt’s voice trailed off.

“Because of my parents?” I finished the statement for him as I grabbed a sweatshirt out of my suitcase.

“Yes” Matt mumbled, standing at the doorway.

“That doesn’t mean I don’t want to meet your parents” I said with confidence as I stood in front of him.

“I just don’t want to make you do anything you don’t want to do” Matt said as I walked past him and down the stair case.

“You’re making a mountain out of a mole hill Matt” I called behind me.

“Well” He began.

“Well what?” I said getting slightly annoyed, “I’m starting to think you don’t want to go and see them now”

“No that’s not it” Matt sighed, “it’s just, I want them to like you. I don’t know what would give them a reason not to like you. I’m just, nervous I guess, i’ve never exactly introduced them to one of my girlfriends”

Matt looked down at the floor as he finished his sentence. I had never introduced one of my boyfriends to my parents before either. I would be nervous if I was him too.

“What do you mean? Didn’t you have val?” I asked him as I sat on the edge of the couch.

Matt came and sat down next to me.

“I met Val in the 6th grade, and the first time my parents met her was before she became my girlfriend.”

“Oh” I exhaled, “Well, I’m in the same boat as you on this one so I guess we’ll just get through it together.”

Matt nodded his head in agreement.

“Besides you don’t chose who you like, your hear does and no one can tell you otherwise.” I smiled at him.

“When did you become so wise?” Matt joked.

“Oh come on” I said as I reached out my hand for him to take. He gladly grasped it and lead me out the door.

We drove in his car through the center of Huntington for what seemed like 15 minutes before we made it to a house buried in a massive neighborhood where the houses all looked similar. We pulled into a long driveway that led to a good size grey house.

“This is it” Matt glanced over at me.

“Well then what are we waiting for?” I smiled as I shoved the car door open and began to slowly walk to the door. I made sure Matt went first because I didn’t want his parents to open the door and see a random girl standing there. I also didn’t want to seem pushy and controlling, because that wasn’t me, but some days that nature in me came out for whatever reason. Matt didn’t ring the door bell or knock he just walked in, I followed behind him holding his hand.

“Mom? Dad?” He called.

Suddenly a woman who was a little taller than me starting walking down the staircase.

“Matt!” She said excitedly. She ran over and threw her arms around him as if she hadn’t seen him for years. I doubted that though considering they lived so close to each other. Seeing her hugging Mat cause tears to form in the back of my throat, it reminded me of my mom of course.

She pulled away and her eyes locked on me, “And you must be Morgan! Matt has said wonderful things about you” She pulled me into a tight hug. I glanced up at Matt who had a slight look of relief on his face.

“You can call me Kimberly” She told me.

My heart sunk at the name. I was supposed to be named Kimberly because that was my moms favorite name, but my dad insisted on naming me Morgan.

“Why don’t we all go into the kitchen” Kimberly suggested, “Matt, I think your father is out in the garage”

Matt gave me an awkward look before he went to look for his dad and then I was left alone with his mom.

“So Morgan, I don’t even know where to begin” She smiled as she pulled out a chair for me, “it’s so exciting meeting Matt’s girlfriends”

I nodded, and smiled slightly.

“So how old are you?” She asked me.

“19” I replied flatly.

“You’re so young!” She sounded shocked, “You look younger, but you seem so much more mature than a 19 year old”

“Thankyou” I smiled.

“So are you in school?” She asked.

“Well, I graduated high school this past May and I’m currently in college.”

“Where?”

“Northeastern”

Her eyes widened at that reply, “That’s a nice school!”

I nodded shyly, not wanting to reveal my family’s wealth, or my high IQ for that matter.

“What are you studying?” She asked?

“My major is undecided, I have a lot of different things i’m debating about doing”

“That’s very cool, you’re parents must be very proud of you.”

My parents. The topic I dreaded talking about.

“Yeah” I sighed.

“I mean, they are proud of you right?” She reiterated.

“I’m not really sure. I hope they are” I shrugged as I looked down at the table trying to focus my mind on something else. I dreaded the fact that I might burst out in tears any second.

“Well I bet they are” Kimberly smiled, “So where are you from?”

“Boston”

“Thats rather far away, why are you here?”

“I came here last summer, for no specific reason and I met Matt"

"Matt told me you met after one of their concerts" she smiled.

"Yeah we did" I replied happily.

"Well whenever I've talked to Matt he always has wonderful things to say about you" She told me.

"Really?" I said slightl shocked. I wasn't that shocked but rather flattered that Matt says such nice things about me.

"Most definetly" She nodded her head, "after he broke up with Val a little over a year okay he was very depressed."

"He was?" I raised my eyebrows. Matt had told me about breaking up with Val but I had figured it was a mutual thing.

"Yes he was, he had never had any other girlfriends other than Val. We were all shocke when they broke up. Of course it affected Matt the most though, Val was his best friend and that ended in the matter if a night" she explained to me, "I think he was somewhat lost when they broke up to be honest."

I sat there for a second completely speechless. I had no idea that any of this had happened and to think Matt called me the mysterious one in the beginning of our relationship.

"Wow" I managed to get out, "I don't know if it's my place to ask this, but why did they break up?"

"You most definetly have a right to know Morgan" Kimberly reassured me, "Val cheated on Matt"

"That's awful" I said sincerely.

We talked for a few more minutes before I excused myself to go to the bathroom since I had had about 10 glasses of water. On my way to the bathroom I took my time to observe their house, it was really nice. When I got to the bathroom I heard 2 people faintly talking in the distance. The bathroom must be next to the garage and the voices I heard were Matt and his dads. I know eavesdropping isn't right but I couldn't resist as I leaned my ear up against the wall and listened to their conversation.

"So how old is she?" Matt's dad said.

"19" Matt replied.

"Matt! What the hell are you doing with a 19 year old" His dad snapped.

"You obviously haven't met her." Matt defended himself, "she's one of the most mature people I've ever met and she's a dime"

I laughed slightly at his comment.

"Really?" His dad said sounding shocked.

"Dad, I'm pretty sure she's the one" Matt persisted.

"Really?" His dad said again, "what makes you think that?"

"Alot of things, she's perfect, I love being with her, and I just, I want to spend the rest of my life with her" Matt explained.

"Well it's not like you can marry her, she's 19 your 26."

"Then I'll wait for her because its more than worth it."

I decided that I would leave with that comment stuck in my mind because it was one of the best things Matt had ever said about me and knowing that he wants to marry me made me feel really satisfied. As I walked into the kitchen I could hear Matt and his dad coming into the house as well.

"Morgan!" Matt's dad exclaimed behind me, "it's so nice I meet you" he said as he shook my hand.

"It's nice to meet you as well" I smiled.

Matt came up next to me and wrapped his arm around me as we all walked into their living room.

We all talked for a while before Matt's dad, Gary asked me, "so are you in college?"

"Yes, I am, im currently attending Northeastern" I smiled.

"Oh wow, what are you majoring in?" Gary asked me.

"My major is undecided but I have a few things in mind"

He smiled at my answer, "so how smart are you?"

"Dad" Matt snapped.

"It's just a question" He laughed.

"I guess I'm pretty smart, I graduated 3rd in my class" I smiled.

"You did?" Matt said sounding surprised.

I just nodded my head.

Then out of no where Matt's dad decided to ask me the worst question possible, "what are your parents like?"

"Uhm" I choked out.

"Dad" Matt snapped.

"It's okay" I whispered.

"They're, normal I guess"

"I'd love to meet them, considering how nice of a girl you are, I'd love to meet the people who raised you" he smiled sincerely.

"That's nice and all but I don't think that's possible" I said slowly. I could feel Matt's hand grab mine and squeeze, "they, they passed away two years ago in a car accident"

"Oh Morgan" Matt's mom said.

"I'm so sorry" his dad said.

I felt Matt's arm wrap tightly aroud me. A tear managed to escape my eye but I didn't let anymore fall.

"It's okay" I sighed.

"If I had known I wouldn't of brought it up" Matt's dad said regretfully.

"I know, it's okay. It's something that I need to learn to accept so talking about it like this does help" I admitted, "but thank you"

Our visit didn't last much longer than that. Matt and I stayed for about an hour or so more and then he decided it was time to go home. Most of the ride home was silent until I decided to break it.

"I heard you and your dad talking in the garage" I said quietly.

"You did?" There was a hint if worry within Matt'a voice.

"Yeah" I smiled, "I think you're the one for me too"

A smile grew on Matt's face before he said, "I love you so much"
