The Skies Have Washed Ashore

Work

Huntington Beach, CA 12:30 P.M. Brian Haner Jr.

I walked along the pier with Michelle, holding her hand loosely. We were taking a day off from the guys and our family to talk about this sister situation.

“Brian, you can’t seriously still be upset about this. I mean, having a sister isn’t all that bad, especially a twin!” I looked at her pointedly and she just grinned back at me.

“I’m not upset about having a sister; I’m upset that my dad never even mentioned anything about it. I mean, he obviously knew about her, so why let me go half way through life without knowing?!” I yelled, throwing my hands in the air.

“I’m sure he had his own reasons, babe. You never know what was going on back then with him and your mother. I think you should give the man a break and just enjoy getting to know your sister.” I considered what she was saying, but instantly shoved it to the back of my head.

“Michelle, what if I don’t even like the girl? What if she’s just like I think she is: stuck up, someone who’s had a silver spoon in her mouth all her life, lazy, good for nothing, prissy-”

“Stop it, Brian. I don’t think that you should be so judgmental because you’re half of those things. You haven’t even met the girl for goodness’ sake. I just think you’re jealous that everyone will like her and the spotlight won’t be on you all the time!” She snatched her hand away from mine and crossed her arms over her chest.

The people around us were giving us weird looks and whispering to whom ever it was that they were walking with and I sighed.

“As far as I’m concerned, you can think whatever you’d like, but the fact remains that I don’t want to meet the girl. She can frolic her ass down here from Vacaville and wrap you all around her finger, but she won’t do it to me," I said firmly.

Michelle scoffed, shook her head and walked away from me.

I simply shrugged and walked to the nearest shop for a bite to eat.

Whatever, she’ll get over it when she sees that I’m right.

Vacaville, CA 9:48 a.m.

The next day came faster than I wanted it to, which meant that I had to get up and go to work. Shaking my head, I pushed myself out of bed and made my way to the bathroom, bumping into the door frame and falling on my ass.

“Ow shit!” I cursed before hauling myself back up and trying it again.

I successfully made it in this time and began getting ready for the day. With my face and breath fresh, I hopped in the shower for a quick wash off. When I was done, I dried off and walked back to my room to see Jerry.

“Jerry what the hell are you doing in here?” I pulled my towel tighter to my body.

“Oh, I just came to say hi. I didn’t know you were in the shower, sorry.” He left and closed the door behind him.

Shaking my head, I walked to my dresser and pulled out my outfit for the day. After getting dressed, I grabbed my purse and went downstairs to see all the guys eating up my food. They all looked at me and smiled before going back to wolfing down their food. I grabbed a bagel and some yogurt, hugged everyone, kissed Jacoby’s cheek, got in my car, and drove into town to my shop. I walked in and there were two people sitting in the lobby.

“Hello, can I help you or has Missy already helped you?”

“Oh, we’re just waiting on Eli to get here. Missy checked us in for our appointments already.”

“Alright, then. I hope you enjoy your tattoos.” I waved and walked over to my office. It was pretty spacious and a little messy, just the way I like it. It took me five years to get this place open and business was booming. I’m good friends with Kat Von D, so she refers some of her clients to me.

There was a knock on the door and I looked to see Eli, one of my best artists, here at Black Chapel Tattoos. “Sorry I’m late, boss. Trixie had her puppies this morning.”

“Aw, really? You’re going to let me have one right?”

“Of course, you can have two or three.” “I think I’ll stick with one for now. You have two customers out there who’ve been waiting for you, so get to work.”

“Yes, ma’am!” He saluted before going over to his station to get set up. There were five artists here: Eli Whittaker, Priscilla Mitchell,Steven 'Kudos' Nichols, Josh Mathers and myself.

The receptionist, Melissa Lewis is my younger cousin, one of my favorites. We were all one big happy here. Luckily for me, I only had six appointments today, so it wouldn’t be a long day. I need my rest for the trip to Huntington tomorrow.

My first appointment came in around 10: 20 and he wanted a picture of his daughter on his lower arm. She was a beautiful little girl named Lucille, but she died when she was five from being involved in a car crash. Once I was done, he hugged me for a solid five minutes and I could feel both his happiness and pain.

Hell, I even gave him a discount on it.

What can I say, I’m a big softy and I love my job. The rest of the day flew and by the end of it, I was ready to go straight to bed. Of course, things never go my way and Jacoby was throwing a party for whatever reason.

Sighing, I trudged up the stairs and into the madness of my house. Bodies bumped into me as I went looking for the infamous Jacoby Shaddix. I finally found him making out with some red head bimbo in the upstairs hall a little too close to my room for comfort.

“Jacoby, what the hell is this?!” I yelled. The pair broke apart and the girl glared at me. Ignoring her, I focused on Jacoby.

“What do you mean? It looks like a party to me.” “Exactly, you know I have an important day tomorrow and you’re going to throw a party? I have to drive all the way to Huntington in the morning.”

“Look, if you want some sleep, just go to your ‘rent’s house. I haven’t had a decent party in a while and today just seemed like a good one. Sorry if I’m ruining your plans.”

I shoved past him into my room and slammed the door. I loved that boy to death, but he could be such a prick sometimes. I started packing my clothes for the next few days and my night clothes for tonight.

After making sure I had everything, I walked out of the room, locking it in the process, and forced my way through the door. I got back in my car and drove down the street to my parent’s house.

“Alli, what are you doing here? Why aren’t you at home?” My dad asked, as he was getting something out of his Camaro.

“Jacoby’s being stupid and throwing a party even though he knew I’m going to Huntington tomorrow and need some sleep. So, I’m just going to crash here," I stated, holding up my over night bag.

“Okay, well, you can go on inside. I need to run to Wal-Mart.” I nodded and brought my over night bag in the house with me. I knew my mom was asleep already, so I quietly took a shower and got in the bed of my old room.

I couldn't wait until tomorrow came.
