Scream

Victim Part II

"Some just can't be bothered to stick around another day," I whispered, avoiding Matt's probing gaze. I felt him tense up.

"Please tell me you don't mean that," he murmured. He covered my hand with his and squeezed. I looked back up at him, but he was staring at our hands. "I will never let anything happen to you. Ever." I looked down when he glances at my eyes, but I couldn't help but glimpse at him when he chuckled.

"What," I asked in my high pitched curious tone.

"You have trouble looking at me when I'm looking at you." I revert my attention on whatever symbol was covering his black T-shirt.

"So?" I had a feeling he rolled his eyes at my response.

"Are you like that with Brian, too?" I shrugged.

"I don't know-"

"She is." Both Matt and I turned to see where the new voice came from. I already knew who it was. Matt tensed.

"How long have you been standing there," he asked. Brian didn't say anything for a couple seconds.

"Long enough." I couldn't take my eyes off of him. He was staring at me with an indescribable expression in his eyes. It was dull, dark, and it scared the shit out of me. He licked his bottom lip, a sign that he was thinking hard about something. He looked at Matt. "I think you should leave, Matt."

"Hell no," Matt retorted. "There's no way I'm leaving you alone with her for even one second-"

"I need to talk to Courtney," Brian said through his teeth with his eyes shut. He was pissed. Matt didn't trust him.

"No, Brian. I'm not doing it." Brian sighed angrily and Matt tightened his arm that was around my waist protectively.

"I just want to talk to her-"

"Not when you're like this. Go calm down." Brian watched me for about five seconds before turning around and walking down the hall. I couldn't look back at Matt, I was frozen solid.

"Courtney," Matt said. I still couldn't move. He brought his hand up to my face, moving his thumb gently across my bottom eyelid, causing me to jump. I stared at him with wide eyes. I grabbed his wrist and saw that the tip of his thumb was wet. He must've seen the confusion on my face, because he whispered, "I was wiping a tear away." I held onto his arm, but I looked at him. He knew I wasn't planning on saying anything.

"Matt," Brian yelled. Matt closed his eyes.

"What," he called back.

"Get in here!" I tensed as I heard Brian's tone change to a growl at the end of the sentence. Matt opened his eyes back up and I let go of his arm. He didn't move.

"Courtney, I-" Brian cut him off.

"NOW!" Matt quickly kissed my forehead and stood up, walking out of the room with his fists clenched at his sides. Whose side am I supposed to take if he hits Brian? I got up and ran to the wall by the doorway. If I really focused I could hear everything they were saying.

"I can't do this, Matt," Brian said, his voice growing a little louder by the end.

"You're gonna have to, Brian," Matt replied, sounding a little pissed off himself. "I'm not gonna stand by and watch you hurt her."

"No one said you had to watch." Oh my God. I peeked out from the doorway and saw the look on Brian's face. It was dark, lustful, and dead serious. Matt was speechless for about a minute.

"I'm going to call Dr. Fuller," he said, taking his phone out of his pocket.

"But Courtney said she wouldn't talk to anyone-"

"I'm not calling for her." Brian looked down as Matt sat in the recliner across from him. He looked back up right at me. He stared for a couple seconds before standing and taking one step in my direction. "Sit," Matt commanded. Brian just stood there, but nodded his head back to gesture for me to go to him. My mind told me to stay, but my body immediately got up and walked into the room. He sat back down so I took a seat next to him. There was at least an inch of space between us.

"Yes, thank you," Matt said into the phone, looking at the both of us. "Goodbye." He hung up and set the phone on his lap. "She's clear until 4pm, so you two will have plenty of time to talk to her."

"I'm not talking to her," I said slowly as if it were obvious.

"You're gonna have to, Court," Brian said, keeping his eyes down. "That's the only way she can help us."

"I don't need help-"

"Yes, you do," Matt said. I stared at him, not wanting to start an argument, but Iknew I wasn't the one that needed help. Brian was.

"I guess we should go now," Brian said after a few seconds of silence. Both of the men stood up and looked at me. I got up and we went outside. On our way to the car, Brian took my hand and squeezed, making me feel a hundred times better than I did before. He made sure Matt didn't see, because he dropped my hand as soon as Matt looked at us. Brian sat in the front with Matt while I sat in the back and stared out the window for the whole 15 minute ride. No one said a word until we walked into the place.

"Chill out, Courtney," Matt murmured. That was when I noticed I was shaking. Brian took my hand again as we sat down in the waiting room, but this time he didn't let go. Every ten seconds or so he would squeeze for a second and then relax, then squeeze again. After twelve squeezes, a door opened and a women appeared (see character page for image). She looked at Matt.

"Mr. Sanders," she asked, making sure he was the right guy.

"Yes, that's me," Matt said. She nodded, looking Brian with the smallest hint of disgust on her face. I had a bad feeling about this.

"I'm Dr. Donna Fuller. If you could all come back," she said, trailing off. We all got up and followed her to the back room. We sat down on the couch with me in the middle. I didn't realize I had my hand resting on Brian's forearm until she glanced at it. "Mr. Sanders-"

"Matt, please," Matt interrupted. He was nervous for some reason. She smiled a little.

"Matt," she started again. "You're the one who called me and informed me about this problem, correct?"

"It's not a problem," Brian muttered under his breath. I squeezed. He relaxed a little.

"Yes," Matt said. He sounded a bit aggitated.

"Has anything happened since?"

"He called right before we came," Brian said. "What the fuck could've happened?"

"Brian," I said quietly. He crossed his arms over his chest, glaring at the doctor.

"I don't need help."

"You might not think that, but-" Brian cut her off.

"No, I know I don't." She sighed, looking to Matt for help. After a second, I stood up and walked out into the waiting room, shutting the room and hallway doors behind me. Brian followed, like I knew he would. "Courtney, I-" I turned around, pulled his arm down so his face was closer to mine and kissed him. He instantly relaxed and wrapped his arms around my waist. I ended it a couple seconds later.

"Behave," I whispered. He nodded and kissed me one more time before letting go. We walked back into the room Matt was still in with the doctor. We sat down and she looked down at the manila folder she had in her hands.

"I have all I need to know from you, Matt," Donna said. "You can wait in the waiting room." I looked at Matt with a panicked expression. He knew what I was going to say.

"Remember what Brian said," he murmured, and walked out. I stared at the door.

"You're gonna have to, Court. That's the only way she can help us."

I can't believe this is over :(
While reading this, I fell in love with the characters :D
I loved Brian and Courtney from the very beginning, and the way their relationship came out to the world and the fact that everyone accepted them (even Matt :D) was just perfect. The times when Courtney was gone and Brian used to feel terrible truly touched my heart.

But at last, they came together and they had this very happy ending. This was all I wanted to happen :)
And now I'm waiting for the sequel because it is hard for me as well to go on without reading this story :p
