What I Didn't Expect

Matt's POV
When I closed the door to Cassandra's bedroom, I went downstairs, got in the car and stared at the guys walking over to the car. I started thinking about all the problems that I had with Val and I thought that adopting a teenager wasn't going to help. But I knew in fact she was going to bring happiness in the house. I felt someone tapped my shoulder. I looked over, it was Brian. He looked at me with a curious expression on his face, confused. "What's wrong man?" He asked shaking my shoulder lightly.
"Nothing man. Why are you asking me that?" I asked, not looking at him.
"Because we were talking to you and you didn't answer" he said shrugging.
"It's nothing, don't worry man. I'll talk to you when we get home." I started the engine and got out of the parking lot. I turned on the radio and 'So Far Away' started to play. We all sang to the lyrics of the song. The ride back home was quite short. I got in the parking and got out of the car. I walked to the front door, opened it and went inside. I took my shoes off and went over to the couch. I turned on the TV and started flipping trough the channels.

All the guys were gone except for Brian; who of course wanted to talk to me. I closed the door and went back to the couch. I sat there silently. I didn't want to start the conversation. He muted the TV and turned around facing me; giving me all his attention."No man, seriously, what's wrong man?" He asked raising an eyebrow.
"I don't think adopting Cassandra is a good idea" I said honestly. He looked at me with raised eyebrows; telling me to continue. "With all those problems with Val-"
"You shouldn't be thinking of that! I don't know wh-"
"But I am thinking of it. Don't you think it's to soon for me to do that?"
"No, I don't think so. You'll be a good father, don't worry about-"
"How the hell do you want me to not worry! She's going to be my daughter. I'm going to have a daughter for the first time. How do you know that I'm going to be a good father?"
"I just know it. If you need anything I'll help. That's what friends are for!"
"Thanks man but what about Val?"
"We'll see about it later. Now go to sleep because you have to pick your daughter up tomorrow." When those words left his mouth; I just smiled widely. I was so excited to have a daughter. I just didn't want Val to hurt her or something.
