Chapter 7
A few days later Maddie was sitting at home when she got a text from Val.
Any chance we could move that coffee up to today? Big News.
She replied before heading out the door. She walked in the coffee shop to see Val looking excited,
“What’s the news, I can’t take the suspense!” Maddie said
“Well… remember what we were talking about the other day?” she replied taking in Maddie’s now blank expression, “About the vomiting and what not?” Maddie still looked confused. “I’m pregnant dumbshit!”
“Oh My God! Oh My God!” Maddie gushed. “This is so exciting!”
“You’re not the one having the baby!” Val replied giggling.
“You and your boyfriend must be ecstatic!” Maddie said as Val’s face fell.
“He left me a couple of weeks ago.” She said sadly.
“Oh I’m so sorry, I didn’t realize. Does he know you’re pregnant?”
“Not yet but I’ll tell him soon.”
“What do you think he’ll do?”
“I have no idea, we haven’t even spoken since he left me so I’d imagine not very much.” Val said. “Anyway let’s not talk about that, how’s your love life?” she said winking.
“Pretty exciting actually, we’ve not been together long but it’s going really well. It’s already pretty serious I think”
“Ooh that’s great! I’m happy for you.” Val replied.
They continued to chat until Val had to leave.
“See you soon Val, make sure you tell him!” Maddie said.
“Ok I promise I will. See you!”
Maddie finished her drink before leaving herself, and heading back to her apartment. It was 6:00, the sun was setting and Maddie thought to herself how lucky she was to have this new life work out so great. She’d made some good friends and things with Matt and her were hotting up. She got back to her apartment, and with nothing else to do, decided to sit on the couch and watch TV.
It must have been a few hours before she got a knock on the door. She got up to answer it, and was surprised to see Matt.
“Hey baby I wasn’t expecting to see you here! What are you doing?” she asked smiling before looking up to see his expression was cold and hard.
“Wh-what’s wrong?” Maddie asked nervously. He sighed deeply.
“Maddie, it’s not working. It’s over between us.”
