I woke in the morning to the sound of the guys shouting and running around the house and my dad shouting back at them while everyone laughed, I even heard dad laugh a few times. I could feel someone breathing on my face, it was light and slow, I opened my eyes to see Sally, she opened her eyes too and we smiled at each other tiredly.
“Morning,” I mumbled.
“Morning,” She yawned “What’s going on?” She asked and I shrugged.
“Matt?!” I yelled turning my face away from Sally and the house fell silent for a few moments before I got a reply.
“Yeah?” Matt asked, it sounded like he was at the top of the stairs.
“What the fuck are you all doing so loudly that woke us up?!”
“We’re packing,”
“Packing what?!” Sally yelled as we both sat up and rubbed the sleep from our eyes.
“We’re going to Big Bear, you two lovely ladies have the weekend off from work,” Johnny said as he walked into the living room, a steaming hot cup of coffee in his hand “Morning gorgeous,” He smiled at Sally, leaning down and pecking her lips.
“Good morning Johnny,” I said with a sickly-sweet, high pitched voice, tilting my head to the side and batted my eyelashes.
“Mornin’ Riles,” He chuckled, leaning down and kissing my forehead, I smiled and stood to go look for Matt.
“Matt?” I called out when I reached the top of the stairs.
“In here babe,” He called from my bedroom, I smiled and walked into my room, finding him looking through my drawers, throwing clothes into a bag.
“What are you doing Mr Sanders?” I asked from behind him, leaning against the wall with my arms folded across my chest.
“Packing my girl some things for our weekend away,” He said with a smile as he pulled me to him.
“About that…” I sighed “I’m not really your girl Matt, am I? You split with Val just over a month ago and we haven’t made anything official, we’ve just been on a few dates,” I sighed “I don’t want to be led on Matt, I can’t take that, not now.” He smirked and shook his head, I asked what was so funny.
“You are, who cares if Val and I split up a month ago? I’m crazy about you and that’s all that matters,” He lifted my chin and made me look at him as he looked into my eyes “And they were more than just dates to me… I got to know this Riley,”
“You mean the one who isn’t socially awkward and is actually pretty good fun?” I asked with a laugh and he nodded.
“Would you just be my girl already?” He asked and I stopped laughing.
“You’re actually asking me to be your girlfriend?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
“I am,” He smiled and that smile only widened when I said yes.
The plan for the weekend was spending time at Big Bear, apparently the cabin was pretty big, there was a lake nearby and it was far away from everything, just what I needed.
I showered while everyone went to their own houses to get things and themselves ready. I dressed in dark red sweats and a dark grey vest top with red Vans, since it was going to be quite a drive I wanted to be comfortable, I didn’t bother with makeup, I just packed it away instead and tied my hair in a messy bun. I slid my laptop into the bag Matt had packed for me without checking the clothes he had packed for me, I don’t know why, but I trusted him with that.
“Is that you all ready to go?” Dad asked as I walked into the kitchen and took the travel cup he handed to me.
“Yep, got everything I need, I’m guessing Matt talked to you about this?” I asked, sipping the tea in the travel cup, I’d never liked coffee and it made me smile knowing that dad had remembered.
“Yeah, and I think it will be good for you to go, Big Bear is great, Gary and I go there for fishing weekends sometimes when the guys aren’t using it, it’s relaxing and a great place to get away from everything down here,” I smiled and nodded along as dad talked when there was a beeping from outside.
I looked out the window to see Matt’s SUV and Jimmy’s truck sitting outside, Sally hung out the back window of Matt’s SUV screaming my name over and over, Johnny was beside her while Matt drove while Jimmy was driving his truck with Zacky and Brian next to him and they al waved at me.
“Have fun baby girl, call me when you get there,” Dad said, kissing my forehead and handing me my bag.
“Thanks pops, see you on Monday,” I said as I headed out of the front door, down the steps and towards Matt’s SUV. Maybe I did need a weekend away before things got too stressful at home, I didn’t need to think about last night, I needed to enjoy a weekend away with my friends… and my boyfriend.
