The Diary of Jane
I sat there, leaning on Matt's chest for I didn’t know how long. I’m guessing not that long because Matt asked me again, "Rebecca, talk to me. Please?"
"About what?" I asked and sniffled.
"Everything. Why didn’t you want me to know about the baby?" Matt asked and kissed the side of my head. I sighed.
"I didn’t want you to know about the baby because I figured that if you knew that you wouldn’t want to be a part of the baby's life and then I would have to explain to the baby when he/she got older that their father was a famous rockstar who didn’t want him/her. And then I'd have to deal with them wanting to find you and I wouldn’t want to go through that hurt again. So I figured if you just didn’t know about them, then maybe they wouldn’t ask about you or I could tell that I didn’t want to talk about their father until they were like 30." I rambled on. I took a deep breath when I stopped.
"Wow. Um...I do want to be a part of the baby's life. Whether it’s a boy or girl. That’s actually why I was late getting here. I would've been here sooner, but I wanted to stop and get you something." He gently placed me on the couch next to him. Then he stood up and pulled something out of his pocket. I didn’t know what it was or what he was doing, even when he got down on one knee. "Rebecca, I know that you and I don’t know each other at all. But I want the baby to have both a mom and a dad. So, would you do me the honor in marrying me?" He opened the small, velvet box that he was holding and inside it was the most beautiful ring in the whole world.(sorry about the necklace in the set with the ring)
I sat there and stared at the ring. It was amazing. It was sterling silver with diamonds half way down the sides of it, with them coming up and criss-crossing around to the back with a diamond in the middle. It was beautiful. Then, after me admiring the ring, the realization of his words hit me. [i]He wanted me to marry him.[/i] "You want me to marry you?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
"Because I don’t want you to be alone in this and I want to get to know you better. Please marry me?" He asked again. I sat there thinking about it for a few minutes.
"Yes Matt. Yes I will marry you." I smiled and started to cry again. This time happy tears. Matt smiled and slipped the ring on my finger.
"I didn’t know what size ring you wear, so I just got an 8 and if it doesn’t fit, then I can get it resized."
"No. That’s what size ring I wear. You guessed right."
"Good." He picked me up and hugged me close. I hugged him too. He spun me around in circles a few times and then he set me down. Then he leaned down and kissed my stomach where the baby would be growing. Then Matt leaned up and kissed me. I kissed him back and held him close to me. He slipped his tongue inside my mouth and played with my tongue. I smiled to myself and held him close.
I heard the front door open and I pulled away to see Jess standing there, staring at us. I pulled away from Matt. "Hey Jess, Matt and I are engaged." I said and smiled.
