Chapter Twenty-Nine
After Jimmy left for school I fed Blaze and Zacky drove her to school. Zayleigh and I are on the way to her doctors.
“How are you feeling baby?” I asked her
“Like death.” She said
“Did the NightQuil help you sleep?” I asked
“Yeah. I felt little again when daddy would sing me to sleep but it was Jim.” She said
“Yeah he told me he sang you to sleep.” I said
We pulled into the doctor's office parking lot and we got out and headed into the office.
“Appointment for Baker.” I said at the counter.
“For, Zayleigh or Blaze?” She asked
“Zayleigh.” I said
“The doctor will be out in a few.” She said
I nodded and walked over to where Zayleigh was sitting. She laid her head down on my shoulder.
“I’m not going in there alone.” She said
“I wasn’t going to make you.” I said
“Good.” She said
I smiled and listened to her stuffed up breathing.
“Zayleigh Baker?” Was called
I nudged her and we got up and followed the nurse into examining room five.
“I’m going to take your temperature and then I’ll send Dr. Lilly in.” The nurse said
Zayleigh nodded and the nurse took her temperature and left the room.
“Why can’t I have Jimmy’s doctor?” She asked
“You want Dr. Payne?” I asked
“No not really.” She smiled
“Hi Zayleigh and Brice how are you two?” The doctor came in
“Hey Dr. Lilly. Z here is sick and we came to figure out what it is.” I said
“Okay. Let me run a flu test. Zayleigh this will make your eyes water.” She said
Zayleigh nodded and the doctor did the flu test and walked out to go get the results.
“I don’t like that.” Zayleigh said wiping her nose with her sleeve.
“I know.” I said
The doctor came in about ten minutes later.
“Well guys it looks like this little one has the flu.” She said
“I’m not little I’m eleven.” Zayleigh said
The doctor smiled.
“I’m going to prescribe some antibiotics. Twice a day until they’re gone.” She said
I nodded and she handed be the prescription paper and Zayleigh and I left. I went and got it filled and they already had some in so it was fast and then I drove us home. Blaze was at school, Zacky was in the music room working on his Vengeance University stuff , and Jimmy was at school. I sent Zayleigh to the living room so she’s not all by herself but so she’s not out in the open where she can get everyone sick and I gave her one of her pills.
“What do you want to watch?” I asked
“Sinister.” She said
I nodded and went upstairs to mine and Zacky’s room and looked though our collection of horror movies. I pulled the Sinister case out and took it down stairs, I put it in the DVD player and left the room. I went down to the music room and Zacky was asleep on the floor right next to his guitar.
“Baby wake up.” I said kneeling down and moving his guitar and putting it on the stand.
I shook his arm and his eye barley opened.
“Where am I?” He asked
“On the floor in the music room.” I said
“Oh.” He said sitting up.
“Yeah.” I said
He sat up and looked a little distressed
“Baby are you okay?” I asked
“Yeah. Oh yeah Matt’s on his way with Val.” He said
“I still don’t like her.” I said
“Yeah me neither and I’m not really thrilled with the fact that she’s Jimmy’s Chem teacher.” He said
“Wait what?” I asked
“She’s his teacher. What?” He asked
“His Chem teacher told him I was a whore and that I was dating you when I slept with Jimmy.” I said
“Such a bitch. Did you tell him the truth?” He asked
I nodded.
He stared at me intently.
“Yeah?” I asked
He didn’t say anything and he just leaned in and kissed me on my lips. I locked my hands around his neck and he leaned me back onto the floor. He had a hand on each side of my head and he never broke the kiss. It felt like when we had first started dating.
“I love you.” He said pulling out of our make-out session
“I love you too.” I said
“You’re doctor’s appointment is tomorrow.” He said
“Yeah do you want to come? I can ask Jimmy to babysit.” I said
“Sure thang baby.” He said
I smiled and kissed him again. I heard a big crash of thunder and we both jumped.
“Z is upstairs by herself and Blaze needs picked up from school.” I said
“You go get Blaze since I took her and I’ll go watch whatever movie Z is watching.” He said
I nodded and he got up and helped me off of the floor. We walked upstairs and I grabbed my keys and got into my car. I turned up some music and drove to the middle school. When I pulled into the parking lot Blaze was talking to a group of girls. She looked up and saw me smiling at her friends she sprinted to the car.
“Hey mama.” She said
“Hey Blaze.” I said
“How’s my sis?” She asked
“Z has the flu.” I said
“Yucky. So I was invited to a sleepover at Tristan’s house and she wanted to know if you’d be cool with me going. It’s Saturday through Sunday night.” She said
“Sure.” I said She smiled
“You rock.” She said
“I know.” I said
Another crash of thunder and Blaze jumped.
“Calm down.” I said
“I really don’t like storms. I’m glad I slept through the one last night.” She said
“Yeah.” I said
“Is Jim home?” She asked
“I don’t think so.” I said
She nodded and I pulled into the driveway, we got out and walked inside before the rain started.
“Can I go sit with Zayleigh? I need help on this homework.” Blaze said
“Yeah.” I said
She nodded and walked into the back living room. Our puppy Majesty the Second came romping into the room. Honestly I really missed Majesty and Ichabod the originals but Majesty the Second was so fucking adorable. I picked up the big puppy and walked into the back living room. Val and Matt were sitting on the floor with Zacky, Blaze was in the chair next to the couch and Zayleigh was helping her with her homework. The front door opened and Jimmy walked in following the noise.
“Oh hey guys.” He said tears in his voice.
“Are you okay?” I asked
“Can I talk to you in the kitchen mom?” He asked
“Of course.” I said
I followed him into the kitchen and he hugged me starting to cry.
“Baby what’s the matter?” I asked
“Ava is leaving.” He said
“What do you mean she’s leaving?” I asked
“She’s moving to Maine.” I said
“Do we know why?” I asked
“Her dad's job.” He said
I hugged him tighter and he pulled away and composed himself.
“I’ll be okay.” He said
“You like her Jim, it’s hard.” I said
“No I don’t.” He said
“Really? Hun you’re crying over her moving now tell me you don’t like her. You always have.” I said
He sighed and a crash of thunder hit and I heard the rain start to beat against the window.
“I went and saw Uncle Jimmy today. I talked to him about you telling me he was my dad and shit like that.” He said “Sorry I wasn’t thinking.” He added
“Don’t apologize I don’t get made when you cuss.” I said
He nodded and I started to cook an easy dinner of spaghetti. When it was done I plated it and we all ate in the back living room watching Toy Story.
Jimmy Junior’s POV
We were eating dinner watching Zayleigh’s favorite animated movie when the doorbell went off.
“I’ll get it.” I said
I got up and walked into the regular living room and opened the door. Ava was standing there with and umbrella keeping her dry from the pouring rain.
“Come on in.” I said
“I can’t stay long we’re getting ready to leave.” She said
I sighed and closed the door, she left the umbrella on the porch and stood in the room with me.
“I’m going to miss you Jimmy.” She said
“I’m going to miss you too Ava.” I said
She threw her arms around me and sighed. She had tears in her eyes and she looked at me.
“I have to go now.” She said
I nodded and she walked out of the door, not bothering with her umbrella she began to walk back to her house. Wait a minute! I’m not done talking to her. I rushed out the front door and followed her , I was soaking wet by the time I caught up with her and she was drenched.
“Ava wait!” I yelled
She turned around and I grabbed her face and crashed my lips to hers. I caught her by surprise but she kissed back wrapping her arms around my neck. When I pulled away her arms stayed put.
“I didn’t think you liked me.” She said
“I didn’t realize it until today and I don’t like you.” I said
“What?” She asked
“I think I love you.” I said “And I have for a while.” I added
“Jimmy you have no idea how long I’ve waited to hear you say that or to feel your lips against mine and now I’m leaving.” She said
There was a honking and I saw her mom and dad’s car.
“And that’s my cue.” She said
“Ava?” I asked
“Yeah?” She asked
“Please don’t forget about me.” I said
“I never could Jimmy. You’re unforgettable.” She said
I pressed my lips to her again and she kissed back. The honking continued and she pulled away.
“I’ll call you.” She said
I nodded and watched her get into the car, the car pulled away and I stood in the rain watching her leave.
