How To Save A Life.

Chapter Sixty-Two

Mia’s POV*

“Mia!!” I heard Lucy shout. Oh, no. She sounds like she’s in trouble. My adrenaline kicked in and I instantly sat up and tried to get up. Being super pregnant didn’t exactly help me in this scenario. I waddled my way out of my bedroom. I got no more than ten feet into the hallway when I saw Lucy struggling to crawl towards me. She had a trail of red behind her. What had Matty done?
“Lucy!” I shouted, rushing to her.
”Call a doctor.” She said weakly. She weakly reached for my hand and a grabbed hers. Her grasp was like that of a baby, but I knew it was all she could manage.

As this thought occurred to me, I felt something happen..there was now a puddle of wetness around me. My water just broke. “I guess I have to call a doctor for me too!” I said, feeling about twenty emotions at once. Lucy looked up and opened her eyes. She saw the puddle and asked,
“Mia..did your water just-” I cut her off. She was too weak to be speaking. I just nodded, took out my phone, and dialed 911. It rang once and then a woman answered.
“911, what is the nature of your emergency?” Her voice was calm. I answered,
“Yes, hi. It’s kind of a double emergency. My friend has been stabbed four times in the chest area and I was about to take her to the hospital, but then my water broke and I’m not due for another two weeks. I’m expecting twins.”
“Oh, my. Can you please tell me your address so I can send help?”
“Of course,” I answered, suddenly in pain. My first contraction, how lovely. “My address is 1661 Stallion Drive.”
“Thank you, help is on the way. Would you like me to stay on the line with you until help arrives? What about your friend? How is she?” I glanced in Lucy’s direction. I’d given her a towel to soak up the blood and apply pressure. The only reason I knew she was still conscious was because she sent me a weak wave from across the room. She was fighting.
“To be honest, she doesn’t look too good. My first contraction has already happened and I feel a second one coming on..” There was a pounding at the door. Could it be the doctors already? I wasn’t about to get up and check. “It’s open!” I shouted. Zacky let himself in and he looked frantic.
“What the hell is going on?” He asked, terrified. I managed to laugh a little and then answered,
“Well. Lucy’s been stabbed four times in the chest and I just went into labor. So you haven’t missed much.”
“Lucy’s been stabbed?! Is she okay? Where is that son of a bitch? I’ll kill him!” Zacky shouted.
“There’s no time for that, we can deal with him later. I’m on the phone with 911 right now.”
“Miss?” The operator answered.
“Hi, sorry. My friend’s fiance just walked in.”
“I’m being told the ambulance are within the mile. I’m going to let you go now. I wish you both good luck.” The operator said.
“Thank you.” I answered. I hung up and laid back down on the couch just in time for another contraction. I grunted in pain and that seemed to scare Zacky. He didn’t know what to do. He didn’t know who to turn to, his fiance or his friend.

The ambulance paramedics burst through the front door with two stretchers. They loaded up Lucy and I and took us away. Naturally, Zacky went into the car that was carrying Lucy. He shot me an, “I’m sorry” look and I just shrugged. I would’ve gone with Brian if the situation was reversed. I tried to focus on my breathing. In and out.
“Okay, Miss Lazzari, get ready to push!” The doctor instructed.
“Actually, it’s Mrs Haner.” I corrected with a smile.
