Life's Little Miracles

Forever

We pulled into the driveway at our house. It had been a week since we found out the news. I was ecstatic about it. I couldn't wait to do the baby's room, even though I didn't know whether it was a boy or a girl. I was feeling good, so I thought I would get a jump start on it. I may not get the chance again.

When we got there, Brian and the guys had alot of it done. Matt even helped out. It was my surprise to her.

"I have something to show you when we get in there." I stated. She looked at me, with a look of wonder. I smiled.

"You're gona love it." I said.

I didn't want to do too much, because I knew that she would want us to paint the room together, but that didn't stop me from going and getting the stuff we needed for the room; furniture and such. I had sent for the bed, rocking chair and a little dresser and changing table for the little guy, or girl. That part didn't really matter to me at that point, as long as it was healthy.

I got out of the car and walked around to her side of the car, opening the door and helping her out; bringing back memories of the week before when she had done the same for me. When she was steadied I grabbed her bag and threw the strap onto my shoulder, then closed the door.

"You, ready?" I asked. She smiled and nodded.

"Yeah." she replied. I took her hand into mine and walked toward the door.

We could hear banging from the inside as we reached the front door.

"What in the world?" she asked, looking at me. I gave her a wide grin.

"That... Would he part of your surprise." I said as I swung open the door, allowing her to enter first. I followed and closed the door behind me.

I noticed that she was at the end of the stairs. I couldn't let her see it alone. I wanted to see her reaction. I, quickly, tossed her bag onto the sofa and walked over to where she was standing.

"Come on." I said, taking her by the hand. "I know you're dying to see."

I walked up the stairs, allowing her to follow close behind. We got to the door where all the noise was coming from.

"Close your eyes." I said. She smiled, rolling them, then doing what I told her. I smiled, before opening the door. The noise stopped as Brian and Matt noticed I had come into the room. I held a finger over my mouth to let them know to be quiet. "0k, Open."

She opened her eyes and saw all the furniture sitting in a neat white room. Her mouth dropped.

"I thought I would get a head start." I stated. Her look kind of hardened. "You don't like it." My heart dropped.

"No, I love it." she said. I figured out that the hardened look was to hold back the tears. "You didn't paint it?" she asked, through the tears. I let out a small laugh.

"No. I was wanting to wait and see what it is, and we could do it together." She smiled.

"That's sweet, baby." she said, leaning up and kissing me. I thought that she would say something along the lines of "What if you're too sick to help paint it?", but she didn't. That was a relief.

"There's still a lot to go here, as you can see." I said, referring to the half finished baby bed in the floor. She nodded.

"I think so, too." she said, pulling my arm and leading me out the door, and back down the stairs. Stopping at the end, she reached up and wrapped her arms around my neck, pulling me down to her. "You're amazing." I smiled.

I wanted her to be happy with what I had done and I knew I had done the job. She was happy with me again, so that made me happy too. I knew that this was big and it's something that we had wanted for a long time, and, now, that we were finally getting it, I wanted it to be perfect. Everything was perfect. I was with the one that meant everything in the world to me, and we were having a baby. So what, if I was sick. It wasn't about me anymore and I had to realize that.

"I try to be baby." I said, sheepishly, with a smile.

"You are." she stated again. "You're so amazing. You're the man that I wanted and the man that I got, and the man that I will be with forever." Hearing her say that almost brought a tear to my eye. I knew that forever could be cut short, and that scared me. What if I didn't get to see my kid grow up.

I quickly leaned down and took her into my arms, pressing my face against her neck, trying not to cry. I couldn't stand the thought of my own kid being raised up with just the thought that I existed. Not knowing who I was. I pulled away taking her hand into mine, pulling her toward the couch.

I fell down onto it, allowing her to follow onto my lap. I held onto her, just like I wanted to hold onto her forever, just like she wanted to with me. She laid her head on my shoulder and looked into my eyes. I could tell that she knew that something was wrong. She knew exactly what it was too. Another reminder that we were meant to be together.

"Baby. It's gonna be ok." she stated, brushing a hand through my hair. "Everything's gonna be ok." Part of me knew that she had no clue what was gonna happen, but I made myself believe it. It gave me hope and made me feel better. I reached up and placed a hand on her face.

"I love you so much." I said. She smiled, then leaned down and kissed me. As she broke the kiss, she placed her forehead to mine.

"I love you, too." she replied. "Forever."
