Our So Called Lives

The Game

Amber felt a bit weary going to Zack's baseball game because it was against her old high school. She forced herself to go for Zack. He was a friend and she liked baseball, though no one knew except Annabelle.

Matt, Brian, and Jimmy went in one car, while Amber, Val, Jordan, Stephanie, and Courtney went in another.

"So Amber you excited to see Zacky play?" Val asked winking at her.

Amber looked at Val, "What's that wink supposed to mean?"

"Oh you know what that means." Jordan grinned.

"Where are you guys getting at?" She questioned, though she knew where this conversation would lead.

"Oh, come on Ambs, you like Zack. Everyone can tell...well except for Zack. I think he's kind of oblivious to it." Val replied while chuckling as she said the last part.

Amber looked at her friends, "I don't like Zack. Where are you guys getting that information from?"

"The way you look at him." Stephanie said.

"You can see it in your eyes. It's how Val's is when she's with Matt." Jordan exclaimed.

Amber looked down, "I do that?"

A very loud 'Yes!' was heard through out the car. Rubbing her ears, Amber replied, "Ok I get it. But I don't think I like Zack."

"You'll figure it out and when you do I will tell you that I told you so!" Jordan smiled.

"We are here guys. Now Amber can look at Zack the whole time." Courtney said while turning looking at Amber. Amber could feel her cheeks get red, but ignored it.

The girls met up with the guys and they all sat on the bleachers. Amber looked around and her eyes were soon connected with hazel ones. She knew exactly whose they were. Zack. A smile crept on her face, but soon faded when her eyes flickered somewhere else. Blaise. Her old friend. Her sister's boyfriend.

"Uh guys I'm gonna go for a walk." Amber mumbled to them as she walked off the bleachers.

"Ok make sure you give ZACKY a GOOD LUCK KISS ON THE LIPS!" Val screamed out making everyone look at Amber, including Zack.

Looking down, Amber mumbled, "Thanks Val." Sighing, she continued to walk. Where shall I go? Hmm...Maybe the concession stand. Hopefully I don't run into anyone. Amber thought as she walked towards the concession stand.

As she stood in line, Blaise and Tiffany(the girl that got her expelled for breaking her precious nose.) stood behind her. It made her sick to her stomach to know that Tiffany and Blaise were together. I thought he hated her. Hopefully they don't notice me, I'd rather not have any drama. Her thoughts were broken by someone saying, "Hey Ambs."

She looked to find it was Zack. "Hey Zacky." Her lips turned to an automatic smile.

"So what was all that give Zack a good luck kiss thing?" His hazel eyes full of curiosity.

Laughing slightly Amber answered, "I honestly don't know."

Smiling as he replied, "Hmm...alright, but I think you do know."

Turning to completely face him, "What you don't believe me?" She questioned.

Before he could answer, Blaise spoke up, "Amber?"

Amber's body froze. Shit. They noticed. Her mind thought as she looked at Blaise and Tiffany. "Hi."

"Ugh, Why are you here? You were expelled." Tiffany spoke glaring at Amber.

"Why do you care if I'm here or not?" Amber asked while glaring right back.

"Because you're not supposed to be here." Tiffany said and looked around grinning. "Oh Mr. VanZandt!"

They watched as the teacher walked up and asked, "Yes Tiffany."

"If a student is expelled, doesn't that mean she can't come to the activities the school has?" Tiffany asked sweetly.

"Why do you ask?" Mr. VanZandt questioned.

"Because Amber Smith is here." She stated.

Mr. VanZandt then turned and noticed Amber's existence. "Amber what are you doing here?"

Before Amber could speak, Zack spoke up, "She's here to support me, her boyfriend and her school Huntington Beach High."

Amber couldn't help that a smile had appeared on her face, but it soon faded as Tiffany began to open her mouth.

"Pfft as if you can get a boyfriend. She's lying Mr. VanZandt." She whined.

Zack glared, "Well you know what she has one, so why don't you back off."

"Son, calm down. Amber you can't be near Tiffany. Tiffany don't you have a restraining order against her?" He asked.

"Yes I do Mr. VandZandt. She can't be a hundred feet near me." Tiffany smirked.

"Bullshit. Just for breaking your fucking nose! I'm not leaving. I'm here to support my boyfriend!" Amber yelled as the anger filled up inside her.

Two police officers happened to be on the grounds. They both walked up to them. One being muscular and the other skinny and lanky.

The muscular one began to speak, "Is there a problem?"

Tiffany glared at Amber and turned to the officer, "I have a restraining order on her and she isn't supposed to be near me."

Nodding the officer than looked at Amber, "I'm sorry mam' but you need to get off the premises."

"Fine, I'll leave because some snooty rich whinny ass bitch can't handle me being here." Amber said and turned to Zack and kissed him on the lips, "Good luck and you better kick their ass."

Grinning Zack replied, "Don't worry about that babe. We'll kick their ass."

Smiling Amber kissed him again and walked away. She felt happy. Truly happy, but she knew it wouldn't last. As she walked around the town, she heard the whispers of people as she passed them. 'Isn't that the Smith girl. The girl who killed her twin sister.' Amber shook her head as she walked into Kelly's Restaurant. A restaurant her and her sister used to go to. It didn't take long for her to be seated, order, and get her food. After she ate, she began looking around to pass the time. Her gaze landed on two people she didn't wish to see. Her parents. The two people that were supposed to love her and care for her. Amber froze as her father noticed her starring. She quickly turned away from his gaze.

Amber heard footsteps coming close to her table, fearing of who it might be, she didn't look up.

"Why are you here Amber?" A deep voice questioned in anger. A voice she knew all to well.

"I'm here because I want to be." She replied looking up at her father.

"You shouldn't be here. You should be with your uncle and your aunt." He spat, while glaring at her.

"I'm here with my friends." Amber spoke up and glared right back at him.

"Friends? You don't have any friends. Now get back to your aunt and uncle. I will call them and I hope the punishment you get is good. You good for nothing bitch who killed my daughter." He said and then walked back to his wife.

Amber got up quickly and paid for her food. She then continued her journey walking around the town she used to live in. What her father said haunted her mind. She couldn't get it out. A few hours later she found it to be ok to walk back to the baseball game.

Arriving, she hoped they were done. The breathe she held was soon let out as she saw her friends there waiting by their cars.

Amber walked up to them with her tear stained face, "Shall we get the fuck out of here."

They turned around and a sign of relief was on their faces.

"Where were you Ambs?" Matt asked.

"I walked around town. Now I remember how much I really hate this town, so if you guys don't mind I want to get back to Huntington." Amber answered.

They nodded in agreement and gathered in the cars. The car ride home was silent. Amber didn't want to speak and the girls respected that.

When she arrived at home, she stood outside for a couple minutes. Amber wondered what would happened once she was in there. Sighing, her hand grabbed the door handle and she walked inside.

Her uncle heard the front door shut and immediately went up to her. "Why were you in Long Beach? You stupid slut, you weren't supposed to go anywhere." He yelled as he slapped her in the face, but he wasn't done with her. He grabbed her and threw her against the wall. He punched her repeatedly and even began to kick her in the stomach as she lay on the ground. Once he was done, he spit on her and walked upstairs.

Shaking, Amber got up and walked out the door. She started to run as fast as she could. Running, trying to forget everything, Amber didn't know where she was going. All she knew was that she had to get away. Amber knew that wherever she goes, there will be questions. She was scared to answer the questions. Slowing down, she found she was at the beach. Amber collapsed on her knees and looked at the moon. I wish Annabelle was here. I miss her so much. She thought as she looked down at her tattoo. Her right hand gently tracing the words. Why did you take her? Why didn't you take me? Amber wondered as tears cascaded down her cheeks.
