I Tried To Stop Loving You

1. Homeward Bound

A sound signalling a text made Laura grumble in her jet lagged state.

Her, JR and John had just landed back in Los Angeles after being out of the country for over six weeks.

“I wish phones weren’t a thing” she grumbled making no attempt to get said phone.

“Shut your face” Jr snickered, knowing she only half meant it.

“Seriously when we were kids life was so much more than just texting and posting bullshit on social media about how fake and unrealistic life is. I hate these fucking things!” She groaned not moving to read the message that was vibrating in her pocket.

“You sound so freaking old Wild one” Jr said through a yawn “I want a nap”

“You slept the whole plane ride” John laughed from behind the wheel of the car. Laura could almost hear his eyes roll as he spoke.

“I missed LA” she sighed. And she meant it Los Angeles might not of been where she grew up but it was the place she had been born and the place she now called home. For the last eight years anyway.

“Yeah, me too” Both of her best friends agreed.

“Three months with nothing planned, no trips” Jr lazily smiled.

“Not until the new album with Rob” She would be flying to Upstate New York for a few weeks and do some more writing with him and then possibly onto London but that wasn’t set in stone just yet so she kept quiet.

“Thomas?” Jr asked while Laura simply nodded her head “Who texted?”

Laura had almost forgotten sighing she pulled her phone out of her pocket. Gates.

“Shit”

“Everything alright?” John asked looking at her in the rear view mirror.

“Yeah, just one of the Avenged guys” sighing she deleted the text without reading it and shoved her phone back in her pocket. Like she always did.

This happened occasionally one of them would send her a message or three, even call her but they always went unread/unanswered. She couldn’t face them again. Not after everything. She did all that she could to separate herself from them. Hardly being in the Country over that time helped too. No chance of them turning up unannounced. It was what was best. Right?

How could she look at them after what happened and not give it away?

Did they know?

No.

She decided overtime that there was absolutely not a chance that anyone would know.

The only person who would of been told would of been Jimmy… and well that wasn’t possible. Jimmy had been the one who had tried to convince her after they had broken up, just six months before he died that she should do it.

Everyday he would call her during those few months and every single time he would bring him up and try and tell her what she should do. Hell even when they had still been together.

“Are you going…”

“No John” cutting him off. She was not in the mood to go through this again. They both knew everything. Its what kept them so close, best friends for twelve years and counting. No secrets, no lies and no bullshit.

“You can’t hide forever” He reminded her.

“Well I’m going to try my damn best” she muttered lowely thinking that neither of her best friends had heard her. She was mistaken as the two shared a knowing look. Dropping the topic they fell into easy conversation about what they are going to do now they where home for a little while.
