Keeping us Safe

My alarm woke me up with a jolt of excitement. I got out of bed and hopped in the shower and scrubbed myself clean. When I got out I pulled out a spiffy shirt and some skinny jeans, I walked into the kitchen and started the coffee pot. I stared out that back window and I heard my phone go off upstairs I sprinted up to get it.
"From: Jimmy
So, pretty cool tattoos girly. Knock open up."
I laughed and pocketed my phone and walked downstairs and opened the front door, he was standing there with a grin in his face.
"Well don't you look half dressed up?" He laughed
"I have an interview thing at noon." I said
"Oh. Do I need to leave?" He asked
"No, you can stay for a little bit. Actually can you give me a ride to it? I have no idea where it is." I smiled
"Yes ma'am. Where is it?" He asked
"It's Newport Pet Clinic." I said
"That's not far. Matt's girl works there." He said
"Okay, that's great." I smiled
"So what shoes are you wearing?" He asked
"I have cute heels I can wear or I have my converse." I said
"Hmm. What do the heels look like?" He asked
"They're boots." I said
"Those." He smiled
I nodded and walked upstairs and grabbed socks and my heeled boots. I slipped them on and walked back down to Jimmy.
"You look good. I hope you get this job." He said
"Thanks Jim." I smiled
He nodded and I looked at the clock I had about two hours.
"You hungry? I've got about two hours." I asked
"I mean I could eat. I can always eat." He smiled
"How hungry are you?" I asked
"Whatever you make, I'll eat." He said
I laughed and walked into the kitchen. I pulled out my pancake mix and some bacon
"I smell bacon." He said from the living room
"Jesus Jimmy it hasn't even began to cook yet." I laughed
"I still smell it." He laughed
I laughed and started to cook, when I finished I had an hour to eat and get to the interview.
"Jim." I said as I set his plate if bacon, eggs, and pancakes at my island counter
"Food!" He yelled running in
I laughed and grabbed me some food, I put two pancakes in a bowl and some bacon on a plate. I walked put it down on the island and looked at Jimmy.
"Syrup?" I asked
He nodded and I pulled the syrup out of the fridge along with the chocolate syrup you make chocolate milk with. I gave him the regular one and sat down with my chocolate kind
"Chocolate?" He asked as I squirted it over my pancakes
"Yes." I smiled
"I've never seen anyone do that." He said
I picked up a piece and held it up.
"Will you still eat off of the fork if my mouth touches it?" He asked
"Yes?" I questioned confused
He took the bite and chewed it slowly.
"It's actually yummy." He said
"It's how Lucan and I used to eat them just to make our parents mad." I smiled
"Sugar high?" He asked
I nodded smiling
"Well it's amazing." He smiled
I smiled over at him and started eating my food. When we finished I put the dishes in the sink and looked at Jimmy. He was walking over towards my piano.
"Is this yours or Lucan's?" He asked
"His but he gave it to my before he died. He said that I would play it more than he would." I said
"You play?" He asked
I walked over and sat down on the bench and lifted the lid, I placed my fingers on the keys and my fingers began to glide over them. I played the song that Lucan wrote and played for me over Skype when I was homesick in Maine. When I was done I took my shaking hands off the keys and placed them in my lap.
"That was absolutely beautiful." Jimmy said
"It's called I'm always here." I said
"Did you write it?" He asked
"Lucan did, he wrote it for me the first time I called him and told him I was homesick. When we Skyped he would play it. He taught it to me when I flew out for Christmas break. It was the last time I saw him in person before he died." I said
Jimmy took my hand an pulled me into a hug
"Before you get extremely upset let’s get you that job." He said
I smiled and we walked out to his car. He drove over the speed limit and he screeched into the parking lot
"I'll be out here for when you're done." He said
I said a quick thank you and walked into the clinic
"Do you have an appointment?" The girl at the counter asked
"I have a job interview." I smiled
"Are you Grace Shepard?" She asked
I nodded and she held her finger up and walked to al little opening.
"Caleb! Grace is here can you take her to Marty?" She called
"I'm coming!" Caleb yelled back
I bit the inside of my lip and clutched my flies
"Okay gorgeous follow me." Caleb smiled at me
I smiled and walked over to her
"Caleb Richmond." She said
"Grace Shepard." I smiled
"I hope you get this job, I saw that you were going for a tech. We need another one. It's just me and Erin." She said
"I hope I get it too." I said
"Marty." Caleb said peeking her head into a closed door. "Miss. Shepard is here." She added
She looked at me and motioned me to go in, she mouthed a good luck and I walked in.
The interview went good, at least I thought it did. I walked out of Marty's office and Caleb was waiting on me.
"How'd it go?" She asked
"I think it went good." I said
"If you think it did I'm sure it did. Marty is pretty straight forward." She said
I nodded
"I can smell your anxiety." She smiled
I smiled at her and she looked up at me.
"Do you want to stay for a bit?" She asked
"My ride is waiting." I said
"Okay, I'll call you telling you about the job." She said
"Okay." I said
I walked out is the clinic and straight to Jimmy's car.
"Man Gracie I can smell your anxiety." He said as I sat down
I froze with that name, Gracie. Lucan called me that, I kept my eyes on the floor of his car. He didn't move.
"Grace?" He asked
I snapped my head towards him and he looked worried.
"Are you okay?" He asked
I shook off the name and smiled at him.
"Yeah, I was thinking." I said
He nodded and patted my thigh, he started his car and we left. The drive was pretty silent, when he pulled into my driveway he looked at me.
"Are you sure you’re okay?" He asked
"Yeah, I just haven't been called Gracie in a long time." I said
"Oh shit. It slipped I'm sorry." He said
"Hey it's okay. I'll get used to it." I smiled
He gave me a look that made my heart melt.
"Jimmy the same rules apply here like your home." I said basically telling him he was allowed to just walk in my house
He nodded and I exited his car and walked into my house. When I got in I went straight to my room and changed clothes. I changed into a pair of jean shorts that had white lace on the bottoms and a tank top. I spit my hair and fishtail braided pigtails. When I was changed I laid down in bed and flipped on my Xbox and Netflix; time to watch more Supernatural.
I watched two episodes and I was starting a third when I heard my front door open.
"Grace!" Jimmy yelled
I laughed
"Gracie! Oh shit! Sorry Grace!" He yelled
I smiled
"Upstairs Jimbo!" I called out
I heard his footsteps coming up the stairs and he peeked his head into my room
"Are you busy?" He asked
"Just watching my babes." I said
"What?" He asked
"I'm watching my favorite show. Well one of them." I said
"Do you want to hang out with us at the beach? Properly meet Caleb?" He asked
"Sure. This gives me an excuse to wear my new bathing suit since I broke my other one." I said
He smiled and left the room
"I'll be downstairs." He said
I pulled my shirt off and undid my bra, I pulled on my galaxy printed bikini top and pulled my shorts and underwear off replacing them with the matching bottoms. I pulled my shorts back on and grabbed my bag throwing in my stuff and grabbing my towel and sunglasses.
"Damn girl." Jimmy said
"You like it?" I asked
"Oh yeah." He said
I smiled and slipped on my galaxy printed Toms.
"Galaxy?" He asked
"It's pretty." I said
He smiled and took my bag from me and we walked out my back door together.
"She seemed cool in the clinic." I said
"You'll love her." He said
We walked up and they all had they're back towards us.
"So if we make-out now they'll never know." Jimmy said
"What?" I asked
He winked at me and Caleb turned around first
"Grace?!" She exclaimed
Her shoulder length brown was pulled back into a messy bun with a pretty lace head band that matched the lace on the shorts I was wearing. Her bikini was purple and white horizontal stripped and she had on the same shorts I had on which was funny. She had the same sunglasses too, her Toms were Jack and Sally from The Nightmare before Christmas.
"Caleb!" I exclaimed
"Damn girl I like them shorts." She said
"And I like yours." I laughed
"They just met and they're wearing the same clothes." Johnny laughed
"Shut up short shit." Caleb and I said at the same time
We looked at each other and laughed, Johnny looked scared and backed away.
"You two have met?" Matt asked
"She came in for an interview today." Caleb said
I smiled at Matt, I looked over and Jimmy and he smiled.
"So ocean." Matt said
I laughed and all of the boys ran into the ocean while Caleb and I laid in the sand.
"So Jimmy?" She asked
"What about him?" I asked
"I think he might like you." she said
"Don't taunt me." I laughed
"You've got the feels for the Rev?" She asked
I was silent.
"You've got feels for the Rev." She squealed
"Shhhh." I said looking at Jimmy who was looking up because he heard his name
"What?!" He yelled
"Stay in your own conversation Rev!" She yelled
He smiled and Matt pushed him underwater.
"So Halloween is next week." She said
"Yeah?" I asked
"Matt and I have a party every year. Come." She said
"I think I might have a costume from last year that I never wore." I said
"What is it?" She asked
"A cop." I said
"I want to see." She said
"It's at my house." I said
"I'm going to make Jimmy wear an Orange inmate jumpsuit." She smiled
"Are you trying to hook us up?" I asked
She smiled
"Maybe." She laughed
I smiled at her.
"Want to get in?" She asked pointed at the water
I nodded, we stood up and took our shorts off. We looked at each other and took off down the beach, when we hit the water Matt picked her up and threw here.
"Grace's turn!" Johnny yelled
"Definitely not Grace's turn you munchkin." I said
He threw his head back and laughed; suddenly I was flying through the air, I hit the water and was engulfed into the cold darkness. When I resurfaced I looked around at everyone, they all looked at Jimmy who was trying to act innocent. I judged the distance between is and knew I could stay underwater to swim to him, I looked at Caleb and winked. I dove underwater and swam unseen to jimmy, my vision was cloudy I knew I shouldn't open my eyes. I saw his leg and yanked him underwater. I resurfaced once again and took a gasping breath and adjusted my sunglasses that were still perched on my nose.
"You should have seen his face." Caleb laughed
I smiled and Matt popped up.
"Hey babe can I get an apadravya piercing?" Matt asked Caleb
"Fuck no." She said
"Can I?" Jimmy asked
We all just looked at him, he wasn't dating any of is so I guess it was fair game to answer
"What about an ampallang?" He asked
"Grace your answer." Caleb laughed
I just laughed and pushed her in the water, I looked over at Jimmy and he was looking at me waiting on an answer. I just smiled and shook my head, his pouted out his bottom lip and walked well splashed over to him and hugged him.
"I'm sorry Jimmy." I said
"Oh you will be." He whispered
I looked up at him and he winked. I felt my face turn bright red and I looked down at the ground.
The sun began to set and Caleb and Matt were cleaning up on the beach and Jimmy was about to walk me home.
"GRACE!" Caleb yelled
"WHAT?" I yelled back
"ILL SEE YOU AT WORK NEXT FRIDAY! YOU GOT THE JOB!" She screamed
"THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!" I screeched jumping up and down
"Come on." Jimmy laughed throwing me over his shoulder.
I laughed kicking my legs, he didn't put me down until we were in my living too.
"I play a little piano too." He said walking over to my piano.
He lifted the lid and his fingers started to glide across the keys he was playing Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. He was playing beautifully, when he finished he looked up at me.
"Lessons?" I asked
"Sort of. I learned that myself." He smiled
"It's sounded beautiful." I said
He smiled
"Are you going to Matts Halloween party?" He asked
I nodded.
"I should probably get home and feed Prince." He said
"Give him a hug for me." I said
He nodded and left out my front door, I locked up the house. When I was done I went to my room and continued my episode of Supernatural.
