Let's Lit This Song on Fire

Are You Stalking Me?

We stood down in the snake pit watching Metallica as we saw the lights dim and a tall figure slowly stepped out from the smoke with a guitar strapped around her frame. I knew instantly it was Skylar. The sound of Nothing Else Matters began to play as she walked playing the guitar to the center of the stage.

“Ladies and Gentleman, please welcome to the stage, Skylar James,” James Hetfield said softly as she played the intro softly; her face soft as could be.

James began to sing softly, “ so close no matter how far. Couldn’t be much more the heart. Forever trusting who we are, and nothing else matters. Never opened myself this way. Life is ours, we live it our way, all the words I don’t just say and nothing else matters….” He glanced over at his daughter smiling, “trust I seek and I find in you. Every day for us something new, open mind for a different view, and nothing else matters.”

She positioned herself in front of a microphone, and sang softly along with James, “never care for what they do, never care for what they know, but I know.” He stepped back letting her sing softly, “so close no matter how far, it couldn’t be much more from the heart! Forever trusting who we are, and nothing else matters.”

“Never cared for what they do, never cared for what they know, but I know,” they both sang. She stepped away and slayed the solo that normally James does.

“Dude she kills it,” Zacky said loudly next to me. I nodded in agreement, slightly memorized.

James sang again softly, Skylar enjoying the stage light, “I never opened myself this way, life is ours, we live it our way. All these words I don’t just say, and nothing else matters! Trust I seek and I find in you. Every day for us something new. Open mind for a different view, and nothing else matters.”

Skylar joined in this time, “never cared for what they say, never cared for the games they play. Never cared for what they do. Never cared for what they know and I know, yeah!”

She slowly stepped back, feeling the guitar and enjoying every moment. She bit her lip and rocked her head side to side. She stepped forward singing alone, “so close no matter how far. Couldn’t be much from the heart. Forever trusting who we are. No, nothing else matters.”

Stepping back as she played softly, eyes closed. The crowd went nuts and she hugged James before stepping off the stage.

“Give it up to Miss Skylar James Hetfield!” Kirk Hammett cheered into the microphone.

She passed the guitar off to the tech and walked down towards us after a gentleman handed her a beer. She smiled, “holy hell! I love doing that!”

“That wasn’t your first time up there,” Johnny asked her.

“No!” she laughed. “Maybe my tenth. It was my favorite song of my childhood so he tends to drag me out on stage for it.”

She was amazing and something told me I needed to get to know her more; she handed me her beer, “hold this for me.” She then dug into her back and I saw her pull the battery pack for the ear buds which were hanging on her shoulder by now. She smiled when freed from them, “thanks.”

I nodded, and she turned and stood next to me. The guys were rocking out next to us like it was the first time they ever saw them play. I glanced over to see her down her beer and sigh, “time for another.” She smiled and turned on her heels, she sent me a wink, “see you around Haner…”

She sauntered away and something told me to follow her back. Once backstage she found another beer from the fridge. She spotted me and handed me an open beer. She smiled, “following me now?”

“Maybe I am,” I told her sending her a smirk.

“I need some fresh air,” she said and walked out the door. Once again I followed her, something was pulling me along with her. “So you are following me?”

I chuckled, digging out a pack of smokes, lighting one, “I haven’t had a smoke in hours. I need one.” Coming up with the first excuse that came to mind.

She chuckled, her laugh would make anyone smile, “can I take a drag off that?”

I nodded and held the smoke out to her, she took in between her fingers, taking a slow drag then blowing out smoke. She handed it back and blew out the last bit of smoke around her lips as she let it curved into a smirk.

“Sorry I probably stained your smoke with my lipstick,” she said and pressed the beer bottle to her lips again.

“I’ve had worse things between my lips,” I said chuckling.

“That sounded so wrong,” she told me but smiled. “Fuck my feet are killing me.” I looked down at her feet. “I shouldn’t have worn these to the show. I haven’t even broken them in yet.”

“You looked gorgeous out there on stage,” I told her softly.

“Thanks,” she said blushing slightly. “I think I’m going to try and get into James bus and get out of my heels…if I can remember his code.”

“Here I’ll walk you so you don’t have to walk alone,” I said leading me that way.

We reached the bus and she put the code in, grumbling when it didn’t unlock. After two attempts she sighed, “well; fucks.” She leaned against the bus feeling defeated.

“You can come back to my bus if you want so you can take your shoes off,” I offered. “My bus is just three down…”

“Only if you give me a piggy back ride,” she said batting her long lashes up at me.

I chuckled, “I could never deny a gorgeous lady a piggy back ride…”

She climbed on my back, wrapping her slender legs around my waist and arms around my shoulder. I held her legs up as we walked. Reaching the bus I set her down as I pressed my code on the bus.

“You smell rather nice,” she told me as I led her in.

I chuckled, “thanks, glad I don’t smell bad.”

She sat down on the couch and undid her heeled boots. She sighed leaning back, “thank you for allowing me to sit and remove my shoes in your bus. I literally flew in and came straight here. I’m utterly exhausted.”

“Where’d you fly in from?” I asked handing her a fresh beer.

“Vegas,” she said softly and pressed the bottle to her lip. “I had a show there yesterday.”

“Dang, I’ve been there,” I told her as she leaned back.

“You honestly don’t remember me, do you?” she asked me giving me that look.

“No, should I?” I asked softly.

“We hooked up back in 2011,” she smirked at me. I looked at her confused and she busted out laughing. “I only kid!” I looked at her confused. “No, but I was at Pink Pop as guest with another band and I met you and Matt between some acts down in the snake pit.” I still looked at her confused, “I had darker hair at the time, lip ring.”

“Oh yeah you were with Hollywood Undead, right?” I asked, remembering slowly. She nodded and smiled. I could tell she was tired and was struggling to stay awake, but that didn't stop her from chatting with me until we realized we didn’t hear the concert going any longer.
