Let's Lit This Song on Fire

It had been about a month since my issue with my voice. I could now speak, but my doctor said no singing and especially no unclean vocals…I sat in Vanessa’s home, because that was where I stayed when I was in California, otherwise I was in Colorado.

I packed my things as Vanessa watched, “are you sure you don’t want to stay longer?”

I shook my head, “no, I need to have some time away from you all. Not being able to sing and be with you guys is hard. I want to write and everything, I can’t when I can’t sing…”

She nodded, “understand.”

I nodded and zipped my bags, “thanks for letting me stay the last couple weeks though.”

She nodded smiling, “of course. Let me know when you get to Huntington, okay?”

I nodded and walked out with my bags and her help. I placed them in my rental Range Rover. I smiled, hugging her. I then slipped into the driver seat and made my way towards Huntington Beach.


I pulled up the long driveway after pushing in the gate code. I parked the vehicle and slid from the vehicle and walked up the steps to the front door. I rang the bell lightly and sighed softly. It had been weeks since I’d seen him. He opened the door and smiled, “finally…”

I smiled back and wrapped my arms around his waist and he engulfed me in a closer hug. I sighed heavily and laid my head on his chest. He ran a hand through my hair, “you’re blonde again…”

I nodded, “needed to change it up again…”

He smiled, “let’s get your bags….”

I nodded and we walked over to the Range Rover and he helped me grab my bags out. Leading me into his home and down the hall towards his bedroom. He placed the bags down at the foot of the bed. I smiled up at him and he pulled me into his arms again, “how was your drive?”

“Tiring,” I said softly. “Thanks for inviting me so late…”

“I told you, anytime you wanted to come over, you were welcome,” he said and kissed my forehead. “I’m pretty head over heels if you didn’t know.”

I chuckled and nodded, “feelings pretty mutual I think.”

He smiled and kissed me softly, “so glad to have you here.”

I smiled and kissed him back. I was so glad to be with Brian once again. He stroked my cheek softly with his thumb, kissing me again. I felt nothing but love in it, not lust, not desire. I wrapped my arms around his neck and let my fingers slide into his dark locks as he broke from me. He smiled, “I’m going to go make reservations for us for dinner, you, you make yourself at home.” I nodded and he kissed my forehead and we slowly broke apart.

I smiled and watched him slip out of the room. I sighed happily and slipped into his bathroom to freshen up from the long drive. I walked down to see him in his living room on the phone. I walked over to him where he sat on the couch, I wrapped my arms around his waist as I lowered my frame into the couch next to him. He wrapped his arms around me loosely.

I looked up at him as he spoke into the phone softly, “I know this the second time I’ve backed out of dinner with you guys this week, but Skylar is here.” He grumbled softly, “no seriously Johnny, she is finally fucking here…”

I giggled at his annoyance of his friend. I reached up taking his phone, “Jonathan, Jonathan, Jonathan, don’t make me come over there and beat your ass silly for not believing that I am here.”

He chuckled, “hey Skylar, you and Brian enjoy dinner tonight together, but tomorrow night!” I rolled my eyes at Brian, but smiled as Johnny spoke, “Tomorrow night Val is making her famous dish, so we better see you two there.”

“Okay, okay,” I said softly. “Bye Johnny.” I hung up the phone and handed it back to Brian, “he says to enjoy our dinner.”

He smiled, “finally, I couldn’t get off the phone with him.”

I chuckled, “what time are our reservations?”

“In about two hours,” he said softly. “If you want,” he stroked the side of my head, “to go take a long shower and get yourself all dressed up for dinner, I wouldn’t mind. I have a beautiful woman to flash off in my town.”

I smiled and kissed his cheek, “okay, sounds great.”

He smiled and kissed me softly and I slipped off the couch. As I drifted up to the bedroom, I heard him on his electric guitar I spotted as I entered the living room moments ago. I smiled and gathered my things I needed to get ready and slipped into the bathroom to get ready for him.

After curling my blonde hair and applying my makeup, making it simple with long dark lashes, and a subtle lip stain. I slipped on a black bodycon style dress that reached my knees. I sat on the edge of the bed slipping on a pair of black chunky heeled booties. I pushed a pair of earrings into my ears and looked up to see Brian leaning against the door frame in a black v-neck, distressed dark jeans, a pair of Dr. Marten’s on his feet, and his usual jewelry around his neck. I smiled as he walked over, offering me his hand, “you look beautiful as ever.”

I blushed and stood next to him, “you look handsome too my love.”

He smiled, “ready?”

I nodded, grabbing my clutch. I pushed my cell phone into my clutch and followed him out the door. He helped me into his vehicle and closed the door and slipped into the driver seat. He looked over and smiled as he started the car. He zipped out of the drive and onto the street.

We arrived at the restaurant and we were led to our table. I sat across from Brian as the waitress spoke, “can I start you with any wine? Or even some cocktails”

Brian smiled over at me, “I guess I’ve never asked what kind of wine you like?”

I smiled, “I like medium sweet.” I shrugged, “I don’t know. I don’t drink much wine.” I chuckled and looked at him, “I’m from Colorado mainly. I drink liquor and beer.”

He smiled, “you will learn wine when you are here.” He looked at the waitress, “The lady will have one of her favorites, a Moscow Mule and myself, the usual.”

She smiled, “of course, by the way, the rest of your friends are coming tonight at about eight, just so you know.”

Brian looked at the watch on his hand and cussed under his breath. He nodded to her as she walked away. I looked at him, “come here often do you?”

He shrugged, “once or twice.”

I smiled and nodded, “it’s nice here, busy, but nice.”

“So how’s the voice doing?” he asked reaching out taking my hand into his. I sighed softly, looking away. “It sounds better. You’re talking more.”

I nodded, “they still want me to do surgery.”

He squeezed my hand, “maybe you should do it.”

“And waste away everything I have saved,” I said softly. “I just, I don’t know. I’ll end up going at it alone.”

“Alone?” he asked confused.

“You leave for tour in a few days,” I said looking at him with soft eyes.

He sighed, “what about your father?”

“He’s still a touring machine as well,” I said chewing on my lip.

“You’re band?” he asked softly and I just shook my head. “Get the surgery, I will care for you. You need your voice back. Your music is your life. I can tell it is killing you not to sing.”

I blinked, “can we not talk about this now?”

“I’m sorry,” he said softly and our drinks came. He ordered us food and it was very sweet of him to order for me. He looked at me and sat forward, “schedule the surgery. As soon as you can.” I looked at him about to argue, but he stopped me, “I want to be there for you, if I can be there. Then you are going to come on tour again with me.”

I nodded slowly, “okay, I’ll call tomorrow.”

He smiled and nodded, “good. This is good, okay?”

I nodded and sighed softly. I needed the surgery. I was prolonging it too long. I just hope I had someone to help me through this the next couple weeks after surgery would be hard, and the long haul would be harder.
