Let's Lit This Song on Fire

I Do Not Have A Type...

I sat at a small café in LA sipping my cup of tea. I was meeting a friend here to talk. I was excited to have moment with my good friend. The reason I was excited was because he just went through surgery to repair his vocal cords so he could continue to do what he loved, sing.

I spotted the tatted up gentleman making his way towards me where I sat outside waiting. He smiled and spoke as he got closer, “look at you. Your hair is red!”

I nodded, trying not to laugh, he wrapped me in a hug. I smiled and hugged back, “hey.”

We both sat down, “so tell me what happened?”

I tapped the glass mug in my hand, sighing, “I was just up on stage and my voice just…”

“Stopped? Cut out?” he asked. “Girl you know you can talk to me.”

“Thanks Coby,” I said smiling weakly.

“Pretty much just stopped, when I went to hit a note,” I sighed, “it just never came out. Nothing. Thank God I wasn’t doing a solo show…”

He reached out and grabbed my hand, “but you’re speaking right now, that’s huge.”

“Do I sound normal to you though?” I asked looking up at him with my sad eyes.

“Not really,” he sighed. “You seen a specialist yet?”

I shook my head, “I’ve just been trying to remedy it on my own.”

He squeezed my hand, “you need to see a specialist Skylar.”

“I’m scared,” I said softly.

“Do you want to perform again?” he asked softly. I could tell Jacoby cared. Yeah, Jacoby Shaddix was sitting right in front of me giving me advice. I nodded and he smiled reassuring, “then you need to see a doctor on this to get truly better.”

I nodded, “okay, I will find someone.”

He nodded, “you may be discouraged at first, but you’ll feel better knowing what you need to do to fix up your voice.”

I smiled, “thanks, I appreciate you meeting me today.”

“No problem,” he said smiling. “Helping out a fellow artist is no problem at all. Especially if one of my favorite rockers out there is in need of help.”

I smiled and nodded, looking at my phone as it rang. I smiled, “hold on Cobs, I need to take this…it’s Brian.” I answered the phone as I put it to my ear, “hey you…”

“Hey! I’m checking in with my beautiful girlfriend,” I blushed as he spoke. “How’s the voice?”

“Okay, I’m going to schedule an appointment to get checked out though,” I said softly. “How’s the rest of the tour going?”

“Good,” he said softly. “Miss seeing you though. You coming to a stop soon?”

“I don’t know, we’ll see after my appointment. My dad’s asking when I’m going to come out too,” I said softly and sighed. “I miss you guys though, especially you. I’m out getting brunch, I’ll text you though, okay?”

“Yeah, tell the girls I said hi,” he said softly. “Talk soon babe.”

“Later B,” I said and ended the call. I looked at Jacoby, “sorry, he calls when he gets a chance…”

“So you and Mr. Synyster Gates?” he asked softly raising an eyebrow.

I rolled my eyes, “yes, Coby, Brian and I are an item…”

“Don’t give me that look,” he said playfully. “I’m just happy you found someone that understands what we do. That last douche you dated.”

I rolled my eyes again, “yes, Ryan was a tool bag and he didn’t understand what I did.”

He smiled, “I’ve meet Brian, he’s a decent guy. Definitely your type.”

“Hey now, I don’t have a type,” I said playing shocked.

“Oh yeah, tatted up, music loving, funny guy,” he told me. “Brian is that to a T.”

I rolled my eyes, “I prefer blue-eyes, but I guess I’ll settle for some brown-eyes.”

He laughed, “sorry, babe! I’m taken, happily with three kids!”

I smiled, “who says I was talking about you?”

“I know you dream of this Coby Dick in your mouth,” he said acting all cocky.

I pushed him playfully and he laughed, “you are horrible…”

He laughed again and smiled, “no, you know I’m kidding. I’m happy that you are with someone that makes you smile for real. Blush like a little school girl.”

“I’m pretty fucking hooked on him,” I said softly. I really was hooked on Brian. I missed him more than anything. His good hugs. His good snuggles. I missed everything about him.

“That you are,” he said smiling at me. He was like family to me. This music business, we become really close with each other.

I enjoyed the rest of our talk, but eventually we both had things that needed to be done. I made my doctor appointment and went back to Vanessa’s place where I had been staying while I was in California, rather than a hotel.
