Reckless Abandon
Starry Nights, City Lights
March 5th
Jinx's POV
After a two day bus ride, with a brief stop at a Bed and Breakfast to get some rest - compliments of Greyhound, we had finally arrived at the bus station in Downtown LA. Tessa hailed down a cab and we loaded our bags into the trunk, and were on our way to Hollywood. And thank god, I couldn't wait to grab a fucking drink.
As the taxi carried us through the city of shining lights, I admired our surroundings in pure awe. Staples Centre, Griffith Observatory and the Hollywood sign off in the far distance, Capitol Records - the label responsible for countless artists I admired. All of it was absolutely fucking breath-taking. I couldn't believe I was actually fucking here. I let out a breath of disbelief as the cab finally pulled to a stop outside the Whiskey A Go Go. Motley Crue, Guns and Roses, Van Halen, they'd all started here.
And hopefully soon, we would too...
"Alright, let's get a fucking drink, shall we?" I grinned, shutting the door of the taxi behind me.
"You're a menace, Jinx." Tessa sighed, shaking her head. "But I won't say No."
I slung my backpack over my shoulder, and the two of us walked over to the entrance. The lineup wasn't too long tonight, thankfully. I could hear the sounds of heavy guitar riffs coming from inside, and hear the muffled vocals of a female singer. A guitar solo rang out as the bouncer opened the door to let the pair ahead of us inside, and my stomach bubbled with excitement. Holy shit, whoever that was could shred! I had to get the fuck in there and check it out.
"Sorry Darlin." said the bouncer, gently grasping my forearm as I went to dig out my wallet. "We've reached capacity for the night."
"Seriously?" I groaned. "You gotta be fucking kidding me."
"Sadly, no."
"C'mon dude, surely there's room enough for two more?" I pushed. "We just travelled here all the way from New Jersey, I just wanna have a drink and enjoy some live music."
"Rules are rules, I'm afraid." he frowned.
"C'mon Jinx." Tessa said, grabbing my arm.
"No!" I snapped.
"I'm gonna have to ask you both to step out of the line."
"I'm gonna have to ask you kiss my fucking ass." I snarled, taking a step forward.
"Jinx!" Tessa scolded me, jerking me away. "Enough!"
"Fuck you!" I spat, sticking my finger up at the bouncer.
"Great job, little lady." he chuckled. "You just ensured you'll never gain entry."
"I don't fucking care, anyway!" I called over my shoulder as Tessa dragged me away from the entrance and around the corner.
"Do you have to be so hot-headed all the goddamn time?" she sighed.
"Only to those who deserve it." I pouted, pulling out my cigarettes and shrugging off my leather jacket, throwing it over the back of the bench next to us.
"He was just doing his job."
"He was being an asshole." I replied, turning my back to shield the flame of my lighter from the wind as I lit my smoke.
"No, you were being an asshole."
"Whatever." I rolled my eyes, blowing out smoke as I turned back around. "Hey, where'd my jacket go?"
"What?"
"My fucking jacket!" I snapped. "I hung it over the back of this bench, and now it's fucking gone!"
"Oh, for goodness sake..." Tessa sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose.
"That's just fucking brilliant." I huffed. "My fucking money, my ID, my goddamn keycard, all fucking gone."
"Welcome to LA." said a random passer-by.
I flipped him off. "Kiss my ass!"
"Look just, chill." Tessa urged. "Let's just find a Motel-"
"With what fucking money?!"
"I'll pay."
I took a deep drag from my smoke, and exhaled. "Fine."
"We'll work this out, let's just get some rest, and you can call the bank in the morning, and we'll find the nearest DMV to sort out your ID."
I clenched my jaw, and nodded.
"It's gonna be fine, Jinx."
***
The Holiday Lodge Motel was less than luxurious, but what else could you expect for $99 a night? It was the cheapest we could find, given Tessa was now paying for our accomodation out of her own pocket. We'd stopped by a 7-Eleven on the way and picked up a six pack of beers, her shout. Thank fuck for that, tonight had been one giant steaming pile of shit, I needed a fucking drink.
Tessa had crashed out a little while ago after we'd finished them all, and I'd taken advantage of the fact the motel actually had a bathtub. As soon as my body slipped beneath the hot water, I felt myself begin to calm down. Whether it were a bath, a pool, or the ocean itself, nothing calmed me down quite like water. Maybe it had something to do with being an Aquarius, I don't know. I watched the smoke as it slowly curled upward into the air from the end of my cigarette, weighing up the Pros and Cons of the situation.
Pro, I had finally taken a leap and gotten on the bus to Los Angeles with Tessa. Con, Mayhem had gotten Pregnant and had to stay behind. Pro, LA was beautiful. Con, I'd lost all my money, and my favourite jacket, and my ID. Pro, Tessa had my back. Con, I'd never gotten to see that band play tonight at the Whiskey. Pro, I had caught a glimpse of a flyer on the wall outside, which listed the name of the headlining band of the night; Lips of Deceit. Con, I'd lost the war today, but this was just a minor setback. Pro, I'd made it here, against all odds, and I wasn't ready to give up just yet.
This was just the dawning of the rest of our lives...
Notes
ON HOLIDAYYYYYYYYYYHaha, yeah, this chapter was based on Holiday from American Idiot.
This whole fic, as previously stated, is heavily influenced by the Album and Musical.
Also, if you were paying attention, there's a subtle reference to American Satan and Raise Your Voice in this chapter, too :P
But yes, here we are, in LA
And it's not off to a good start, is it?
But on the upside, HereticBlood6661 will be joining the party next chapter!
She'll be giving you a little more insight into Tessa's character :)
