Know Me By Name

The Guardian (Part 2)

My wings unfolded as I made my way to the portal. I hated going to Hell. The souls always reached out and tried to grab me. They had no for my comfort. And I had to be careful to not let any souls escape. Most tried to make a run to the light. I had always thought Hell needed to be improved. They made all these rules, but these souls had been demonized and tortured. Hell shouldn't torture the souls for all eternity. It should recondition the souls and give them a second chance.

My thoughts stopped when the portal entrance came into view. Trees formed a circle around a flower pattern. The pattern looked like a star, each point connected to a part of the tree circle. The portal to Hell was nicer than anyone would ever know.

The fall had burned beyond belief, creating scars along Lucifer's body. In addition to the black horns and black wings, her once flawless skin was now marked and marred. She looked and felt like a demon. Especially now with completely black eyes.

Every step Lucifer took on Man's Earth left a black trail. In her wake, there was only destruction. He had truly cursed her. It was one thing to curse her to Earth but another entirely to make her walk and destroy.

Lucifer looked to the sky, no longer able to see the Heavens. If God wanted her here, if He wanted her to fall, so be it. God had created Man in His image. If He could do sol, so could she. If she had fallen, others would follow.

God had banished her to just outside His Eden. Man could no longer live there, not after her serpent had tricked His creations. A smile crossed her face. If Man could not have Eden, she would.

The trees instantly died as she stepped into God's first addition to the Earth. They bowed over as if Lucifer was their new god. Now blackened and crippled over, they began to move into her symbol, black flowers following their lead. God had granted her her own symbol when He had picked her as His right hand. Her symbol was a star in a circle.

With the trees taking shape, Lucifer wondered how she could alter His Earth. If Heaven was for angels, Lucifer needed a place for her ilk... once she had some. Before her fall, God had mentioned Heaven would one day be a place for the good Men. There were no good Men in her mind. She needed a place for them.

Whatever place she created, it would be completely unlike Heaven. So Lucifer sat in the center of her star and she thought. As she thought, her own powers of creation granted by Him began to take force. Visions of crippling pain, fire, brimstone, and unimaginable deaths flashed through her black eyes. The flames of her creation licked at her scarred skin.

God had taken six days to create His Earth. Lucifer took six hours to create her realm, her Hell. Now, all she had to do was find her own followers.

The trees parted and revealed the so-called highway to Hell. Taking a deep breath, I stepped into the copse of trees, tugging Oliver's soul. His red soul pulled against me, a desperate attempt to escape. The thing was: he belonged here.

Jeremiah held out a hand as I approached. Despite what many believed, Hell was designed to torture human souls. Lucifer despised Man and torturing then was how she created her demons.

"Kaylee." Jeremiah's eyes flashed black. "Who have you brought?"

He was one of the gatekeepers, a first offense for escaped souls. Of all the gatekeepers Lucifer kept, he was my favorite, if favorite demons could be a thing. Though Jeremiah was a fallen, he still held some regard for humans.

"Oliver," I said, "He possessed a human." Tossing the soul to the gatekeeper, I turned to leave.

Just as I was exiting, a hot flash covered my skin. It felt like someone was pushing a burning poker against my body. A groan escaped my lips as pain took over. Angels could not feel pain, so this was unnatural to me. Before I could think, the pain was gone. Along my left arm was a brand. It marked me. Someone in Hell had marked me with Satan's symbol. Why?

Notes

Okay, I need to break this up into a third section because there was a lot more than I fucking realized. Sorry for not updating this one the other day. Enjoy!
