Know Me By Name

The Fall (Part 1)

The sound of trumpets alerted the angels to His presence. He rarely called for meetings, so they knew this must have been extraordinarily important. Because he would be appearing in front of His original creations, He only appeared vocally. It would be far too complicated for Him to try to appear in so many different forms.

"Children, I have decided to create another being. He will look like you without the wings. He will be called man, and for him, I shall also create woman. They will have the Earth as we will have Heaven."

Many heads nodded in agreement. Heaven was divine, and if He believed in Man, so did they.

However, in the back, Lucifer's mind reeled. Why did He love the Man more than his children? Were they not worthy of His beautiful Earth? She pushed these thoughts away. She trusted Him. Since He believed in Man, so should she.

Lucifer turned to Michael and was determined to create another angel for Him just as Uriel and Katherine came to the same decision.

Not long after this Michael and Lucifer were blessed with their creation. He had dark, almost black hair. His eyes matched Lucifer's perfectly, a deep hazel. It was almost like he was chiseled from stone as he stood at over six feet tall, easily towering over the other angels.

It wasn't just the Hands of God who were blessed, the Keepers were too. Uriel and Katherine had a honey-blond daughter with eyes so blue, it was like looking into the ocean He had created. She was a tiny thing but fierce and confident.

The boy was named Matthew and was given a job handpicked by God. Matthew would become the Angel of Death; any death was sentenced by him. He was just and fair as well as cruel and punishing. Most thought of Matthew as a gentle giant until he found you had done wrong.

Uriel and Katherine were the Keepers of Souls. Uriel guided souls to Heaven whereas Katherine taught the Guardians... reapers how to guide the dead. Their daughter was the young Kaylee. She was tasked with the job to protect the souls of Man. To others, she had a fiery personality that was also welcoming.

Like the other angels, they were partnered to certain angels, and finally the day had come for the children of the original angels to meet their destined partners.

"Mother, I don't want to meet this woman that He has determined is mine." Matthew sighed as Lucifer plucked a stray feather from his large wings.

"Mary is a lovely angel," Lucifer said as she stroked the black feathers. His wings were so dark, they were unlike any other angel's.

"It does not matter what you want, Matthew." Michael came into the room. "He has chosen for you, and so it is to be."

Matthew's wings fluttered, a clear sign of agitation. "Fine, but for Him only."

Kaylee felt the same as the Angel of Death. She certainly didn't want to meet Jonathan. Her white wings kept ruffling as she paced the floor. She couldn't relax, no matter how many times she was told to do so. The mere thought of having to meet someone she didn't want to, got her all riled up. Kaylee liked her independence and the idea that He had other plans frightened her.

"It's time." Uriel's booming voice finally broke Kaylee's pacing. She stared at her father, still not understanding why she had to do this. She wanted a different life-- one without Jonathan.

If Kaylee was being honest with herself, she knew the reason she didn't want to be with Jonathan was because he was a ruthless angel. He had no care for others, and Kaylee worried he'd have no care for her either. She didn't like the idea of a ruthless angel; she believed it also meant he was cruel, a quality no angel should have.

While Kaylee fretted over her angel, Matthew felt no desire for Mary. He thought he should have some desire for his chosen angel. He was going to be partnered with her for all of eternity, after all. It was supposed to be a bond for all of time. And yet, he felt nothing for this angel.

"Mother, I have no desire to be partnered with her."

Lucifer once again smoothed down her son's wings, folding them in so she could pull a shirt over his head. He turned to face her. "Did you want to meet father?"

She smiled. "Yes. I had heard a lot about Michael. We may not have liked each other at first, but we certainly do now."

"Yes, but you wanted to meet him. I don't want to meet Mary. She doesn't seem like the angel I should be partnered with." Matthew sent his mother a look.

"Do not say things like that!" Lucifer glared at her son. "He has chosen the path for you, and you will follow."

Matthew bowed his head. "So it shall be, mother. So, it shall be."

The Keepers and the Hands of God left their hones, guiding their reluctant children to meet their partners. Each child looked forlorn as they were lead to their destiny. Neither wanted to face this kind of fate or to be in an arranged partnership. It seemed beyond cruel to subjugate them to this fate.

As they passed the Fountain of Youth, something caused the two children to look up at the same time. Matthew's eyes met those of Kaylee's and the air shifted as if the winds of time were at play. A bright light filled the air, causing Matthew and Kaylee to fall their knees, eyes still locked on one another. The light fractured into two and encircled the two angels.

Their wings ripped through their clothes, and the light funneled around them. Flames engulfed their chests, yet no screams of pain were heard. Shreds of their shirts hit the floor as the light continued to surround them.

Slowly, the light faded away from Matthew. He was on his knees, wings out and completely shirtless. His once solid, black wings now shimmered dark blue on the underside. His once perfect torso now barred marks. His right forearm bore the mark of a sword that had the word "justice" etched onto it. His left arm had a tree that started at his wrist and twisted up his arm onto his back. It was created entirely of names. But the most significant change was over his heart. In a red, glowing fashion was Kaylee's name.

The light had faded from around Kaylee, and she too had changed. Her once white wings were tipped hazel-- the exact shade of Matthew's eyes. Her chest bore his name as well, a bright red. Along her arms were interlocking names and they twisted up and down her legs as well.

As the light completely dissipated and their eyes found each other once more, the glowing names on their chest burned white. At this point, they noticed all the other angels that had gathered to see what the commotion was all about.

In front of them, Matthew embraced Kaylee. He slowly brought his lips to hers and said words no other angel had uttered.

"I love you."

Kaylee met the hazel eyes of Matthew. She smiled gently up at him and said the same three words back to him. The angels all gazed in silence and complete confusion. The two angels had created love-- original love.

Notes

Alright, I apologize for the kind of strange writing. I am attempting to adapt this from my early college days... like I was still 18 so if it sounds like my writing skill has dropped... it's hard to fix four-year-old writing.

I hope it's gonna intrigue y'all! Enjoy loves!
