MATTHEW'S POV

Michael paced in front of me. His golden wings fluttered with each booming step he took. I titled my head, carefully examining my father. Ever since the day I told him about Kaylee, the day I overhead his conversation with Raphael, he had been acting strange.

"Are there new names on your list, Matthew?" His golden eyes looked through me. "God has sent Gabriel a message from Earth. Please, I must know."

I shook my head. "I cannot tell you. The names on me body are for me and God."

Michael's eyes trailed my torso. "We can only see the ones you've hunted and Kaylee's, I take it."

"Yes. What is going on, father?"

Air escaped his mouth. His wings twitched. "Lucifer has created beasts, and they have learned how to reproduce. To think I once love that angel. Matthew, what names are on your list?"

I looked the Archangel in the eye. "I cannot tell you. I can say my body holds angels and creatures. My reapers have the names of the humans."

"Can you stop them?"

"Unless they do wrong, no," I said, "Lucifer's creatures did not ask to be brought into this world, Michael. I will not punish them until He asks me."

Michael growled. "And if the Council asks?"

"The Council is not my keeper. Your bidding is not mine to follow. Ask someone else. My focus is on Kaylee and our child."

"Have you heard of Lucifer's creatures?" Kaylee asked, sending me a look. A hand rubbed her wrist where my mother's symbol still stayed.

"Michael just asked me about them. Are they as bad as he says?" Placing my hand against her belly, I pressed a soft kiss to her lips. Her wings twitched as if to say she wanted more.

"No, they really aren't. Two were tortured into creation, and two were born of revenge and lies. In this, they are innocent. But Satan's will is strong." Kaylee gripped my hand. "They can succumb to her will just as Man can."

I sighed. "Why does she crave chaos and destruction?"

"I think she always has, Matthew. There is something in her wiring. God birthed her from fire to give truth, but fire is unruly. He may have chose the wrong element to create life from. Fire is so hard to control, Matthew."

"And me? I am her child, my love."

She cradled my face. "You also come from Michael. It is a balance you have to face, but you never delve into that darkness. What is inside you is tamed by your sword."

"I love you."

"And I you."
