Gunslingers

Matt shifted against my back, his hands grazing my ass. "Sanders?"

He grunted but kept moving against me. What the hell was this man doing? He squirmed some more, once again grazing my ass.

"Fuck. Martinez, there's a knife in my pocket that I can't reach. Can you try to get it?"

I nodded and reached for his pocket, instantly finding the knife in question and putting it in his hands. He took it and started to saw through the rope tying us together.

The ropes loosened around my hands, and Matt stood up. He motioned for me to stay quiet and went to look out the door. He came back to me and sat down, his head in his hands.

"Okay, that doesn't fill me with confidence, Matt."

He turned to look at me. "Rae, this would be a clusterfuck alone. Please don't take this the wrong war, but it's twice as hard with you."

I frowned. "Because I'm not Spec Ops?"

Matt nodded. "Sorry, Rae. We can still give it a go, but you have to do exactly what I say."

Nodding, I listened carefully to his plan. Even though a part of me was still pissed that he'd laughed at me, he knew what he was talking about. Sanders was a Special Forces operator, and his plan actually made sense.

"Okay, you ready?"

I nodded and followed behind Matt as he went to the door. He held his K-bar knife in his hand while I held the rest of the rope. The weapons weren't great ones, but Sanders said he only needed two people to come by. He gave me the rope so I could "defend" myself.

Matt led us down the corridor and turned left. He probably had no idea where he was going, but I guessed that was part of the plan. He stopped and shushed me.

Sanders stepped forward, and I heard a grunt. A bloodied body fell to my feet, and Matt handed me an AK-47. Thaws guns were so different than the ones we used, but a weapon was a weapon.

We continued down the corridor. Matt motioned for me to hold the gun. Now, we didn't want to announce our prescene so the gun was a just in case. Matt moved and another body dropped in front of me.

This time Matt picked to the gun and swung it around his body. It looked like he wasn't a fan of the AK-47 either. This was such a shitty gun.

"Okay, Rae. This is where the shit hits the fan. Are you ready?"

There were few things I was afraid of but going into battle with no amour, a single gun, and one other soldier was right at the fucking top.

"Yeah."

Matt grasped my shoulder. "Hey, we're getting out of this alive."

I nodded and motioned for him to move forward. Fear and adrenaline were the only things pumping through my system. The corridors felt narrowed as Matt led me down a staircase and another hallway.

As we crept outside, I looked around. So far we'd only seen those two guys Sanders had killed. But there was this irksome feeling in the back of my mind. We looked both ways and then took a step outside the interior compound. That's when it felt like all hell broke loose.

An AK-47 sounded above my head. Sanders turned to fire in that direction and shot off a couple of rounds. That noise right next to me jump-started me into action. I shot off a round and tuned to the right, aiming th stolen gun at one of the men who had taken us.

That's when Allad came out. Sanders roared and shot the ass right in the head. It didn't end the others' attack though. They kept shooting, and so did we. Th compound was lit up. I the AK-47s.

Something burned through my shoulder, and the gun dropped from my hands. Another searing bite hit my right thigh. My vision went slightly blurry and then pitch black.
