Chapter 19-- Done Fucked Up A-Aron
Dan and I stood by Matt's former location. He was gone, and so was Martinez.
"Baker, where the hell is he?" Dan did not sound happy.
I shook my head. I should have never left him. He was probably dead. "I... I don't know."
Dan sighed and rubbed the back of his head. It had been a long day, and Allad hadn't even been at the compound. "Go get the team. We're going to track them."
Nodding, I left to go get the other SEALs. I had fucked up and now my friend was gone. I should have never left. If Matt and Rae died, I'd never be able to live with myself.
"Cory, you're the best tracker. Help us find them." Dan pointed at the footprints around where they had been.

The sun came up, and Dan stopped us so he could call our commanding officer. We had to report that Matt and Rae were missing, and we had no idea where they were. All of us were in a shit storm.
"Sir, I understand, but the SEAL code says no man left behind. We have to go after them," Dan said into his SAT phone. "Well, sir, I respectfully disagree. We're going to find them."
Dan looked at each member of the team. "Send the pilots if you must but don't drop any weapons until we have them."
The SAT phone went back into his backpack, a sigh coming from him. He looked exhausted, and I couldn't help but feel that it was my fault.
"Let's move."
Please, let us find them, I thought as we started trekking through the desert again. We had to find them. We just had to.
"Stop beating yourself up," Cory said, "Matt gave you permission to come help us. He made the right decision. Shit happens, okay? Sometimes when it does, it goes FUBAR."
I nodded. Those were nice words, but I knew I had fucked up. If I had stayed, we could have taken them. Rae was supposed to watch our back but without me, she had two jobs to do. And with no Special Forces training, Matt probably was afraid to do SEAL tactics in front of Rae. She was just a Marine after all.
"Yeah, Cory, but I can't help but feel guilty."
"Don't. We need you, Vengeance. Don't get stuck in your head. Let's go get them."
Notes
Sorry it's short. I have been having some writer's block on this one.
