God Damn

I was absolutely devastated when I got news that Jimmy had passed away and I did not think I was going to be able to continue making music. But I for the sake of my family and bandmates I knew giving up would not solve anything. Being in Huntington Beach was not helping me with the way I had been feeling since Jimmy passed.

I was thankful that Saige suggested taking a trip up to our cabin in Big Bear. I needed to get out of Huntington Beach even if it was only for a short time. I knew I would get some material written for the new album and Saige was helping me get my feelings down on paper.

But on top of writing new material I also wanted to focus my attention on my wife as well. I feel like she deserves to be alone time with me without the kids around. For the last three years’ everything has revolved around the band and the kids. Now that Jimmy is no longer with us I want to focus more on my family while keeping the band going.

While Saige got the kitchen, all stocked and situated I brought in the guitars and the other music equipment we brought with us. Even though Saige was not involved with our last one I wanted to have be a part of our new one. She was more musically talented then she gave herself credit for and she deserved to be a part this time around.

I remember a few days before Jimmy passed away he brought up the idea of having her do some back up vocal parts. The guys also never realized how musically talented she was until we started getting ready to work on the new material. I don’t care what anyone thinks my wife will always be a special piece of Avenged Sevenfold.

I was sitting in the living room area of the cabin tuning one of the acoustic guitars I brought along with us. Saige sat beside me and ran a hand over shoulders and I looked over at her.

“Hey baby.” I leaned over and kissed her lips softly and put the guitar beside the couch.

“Did I tell you how sexy you look with a guitar?” Saige had a grin and after the four years we have been together the little things she says to me always make feel good.

“No but I could say the same about you darling. You look sexy as hell when you play too.” I pulled her closer and connected our lips.

Saige moved her body into my lap and my hands went to her hips. I knew where this was going and I did not want to stop it. I quietly got out of bed once my wife was completely asleep and I was not quite ready for sleep. I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a beer and then I rolled myself a joint. I don’t smoke as much as I used but these days Saige and I used to relax and help with sleep. I walked outside and sat one of the chairs. I took a sip from my beer and lit my joint taking a nice drag from it and then I slowly exhaled.

I heard some noise behind and I looked over my shoulder and saw Saige wearing one of my t-shirts. “Hey baby. Have trouble sleeping?”

“Yeah and I woke up and you were not in bed. But I’m glad I found you.” She grinned and walked closer to me and took the joint from took a hit off it. She got into my lap and I wrapped an arm around her waist.

I took a long sip from my beer and I looked out into the darkness and I honestly enjoyed the quiet that I could not get back home. My mind wondered to the kids and I hoped they were doing okay. Saige’s aunt and uncle were more like her parents and I knew Maddox was in good hands.

The last couple years just seemed to fly by and the kids were growing up so fast and I always wondered if Saige and I would have any more kids. Right now, was not the greatest time to bring up the idea of expanding our family but I think we could handle one more kid. But we have this conversation at another time once things calmed down.

“What are you thinking about sweetheart?” Saige’s voice brought me out of my thoughts and I looked into her eyes.

“I was just thinking about the beauty out here and about the kids and how much has changed over the years.” I smiled and ran my hand along her cheek.

“I love it out here. I hope we can try to come up here more often and get the kids out of the city and away from its craziness.”

“I like that idea baby. I’m so thankful for my family these days and just being out here made me think about how much I value family more than ever.”

“Aww Matt I feel the same. Losing Jimmy made me realize just how much you, the kids, and the guys truly mean to me. I am so lucky that I got to reconnect with Jimmy before he passed.” I could see the tears come to my wife’s eyes made me teary eyed as well but I quickly wiped my eyes.

“Shall we head back to bed?”

Saige got off my lap and took my hand. “Let’s get some rest before we get to work tomorrow.” I smiled and pulled her in for a kiss before following her back inside the cabin. I was hoping I would get a good night’s rest after having many restless nights over the past couple of weeks.

This first night away from home proved to be off to a good start and I could not wait to get some work done while spending much needed time alone with my wife.
