Fallen

chapter eighteen

It had been a month since the Big Bear trip with Matt and the boys, and things had been going really smoothly for us as an unofficial couple. We had a couple of date nights here and there, just the two of us, celebrated Cash’s birthday together and most importantly, talked about where we wanted the future to go. Matt wanted us to be together; to be in an actual relationship. He was ready for it, but told me that there were still things he needed to take care of before it could officially happen. I accepted that because I, too, had things that I wanted to take care of and also discuss with him. I wanted to be with him, but after an encounter a week ago I was a little on the fence about going truly public. A photo of Matt and I together at a restaurant surfaced on a website called Tumblr, and a girl, who had to be about fifteen, came up to me at work and asked me if I was M. Shadows girlfriend. Taken back by the comment, I said I didn’t know what she was talking about, but then reality hit me like a ton of bricks that Matt was in fact semi-famous and that meant I needed to conceal my identity for the sake of my career. I didn’t know how to bring that up to him, but I figured that when the time truly came and we took the next step, I’d have the words to say it.

Val was beyond excited over the idea of Matt and I becoming a couple, maybe even a little too excited. Her wedding was in two weeks and all she could talk about was Matt and I… It probably didn’t help that Matt told her I would be coming with him as his date, either. I was nervous for that. Not for being Matt’s date, but because I knew I would be viewed as his girlfriend and have to meet the wives of Matt’s friends. I guess that meant he really did like me if we were going this route.

My mother was pretty skippy that I found someone, too. What she wasn’t happy about was that I wasn’t the one that broke the news to her; it was Carson. My mom is having Carson’s fourth birthday party at her house next week, and he made sure to relay to GiGi that he wanted Matt, or as he called him, Momma’s boyfriend, at the birthday bash. She was looking forward to meeting Matt as she had already heard so much about him. I was sure she probably googled him since I had told her he was in a band, so she most likely had formed her opinion on him prior to meeting him. I was hoping for good things, that she could look past the rockstar title and tattoos, and see that I really fucking liked having him around.

Work was crazy as it turns out we had a pregnant hyena that we didn’t know about until she was about to pop. I had spoken too soon about every unit but mine having a baby boom this year. Now we had three hyena cubs stuck to our dominant female like little ticks, and of course, one of them seemed to be weaker than the other two. That meant longer nights at work, and me relying on others to pick my kid up from daycare when I had to stay late. My mom, Cassidy and Matt had all stepped up to help me with the situation. Val had said she wanted to help, but she had so much to do for the wedding I felt bad asking her.

I cut the engine off of my Jeep and looked at the clock, it was nine-thirty on a Sunday night. Matt didn’t even have the boys this upcoming week, they went back to Val’s this morning, but he spent the day with Carson since I got called into work on my day-off to be an extra body for the cubs exam. The light on Matt’s front porch was on, illuminating around the front door. It looked like the lights were off throughout the house; I figured he was probably in his room or the basement. I got out and tried not to slam my door, not wanting to wake Carson who was asleep in the guest room most likely, and headed inside. As I expected, the mid-level of the home was dark and silent. I slipped my flip flops off my feet and sat my bag on the floor, noticing light coming from the door that led to the downstairs steps. I smiled to myself and walked over to the door, opening it and getting hit in the face with the sound of Matt singing in Spanish.

His back was to me as he stood facing the television, a baseball game on the screen and headphones in his ears. “That must be what he’s singing along to,” I mumbled to myself as I walked down the last couple of stairs. He hadn’t noticed me yet, as he continued to sing and I smiled while listening. It was actually pretty good for your All-American dude.

Matt turned around and looked at me with wide eyes, pulling the headphones from his ears, “I didn’t hear you come in.” His face changed from surprised to a warm, welcoming smile, “How was work?”

“I didn't know you knew Spanish,” I laughed and made my way toward him.

He laughed along with me, “I don’t. To be honest I don’t even know what the hell I’m saying, but we’re covering this song so I have to figure it out.”

“It wasn’t bad! You’re doing a good job of controlling the raspy,” I smiled and grabbed his phone from his hand, looking at the name of the song. “How long have you been doing this tonight?”

“Since I put Car to bed around seven,” Matt admitted while running his left hand through the small amount of hair growing at the base of his neck. “You didn’t answer the question, though. How’d the exams go?”

I shrugged and slipped his phone into his pocket, “We were right about the little female. She’s definitely not getting the same amount of milk from mom as her brother and sister. She’s pretty weak and is not growing at the right speed. Vets gave her some fluids, and also discussed with us the possibility of starting her on a formula to help bulk her up. Everything else with her checks out okay, she’s just underweight. The other two are happy, healthy little monsters.”

“I’m sorry, baby,” Matt wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me into his chest. “At least it’s nothing serious. You guys will have her weight up in no time. I’m glad you were able to go in today so you could be there for that information.”

“Thank you for spending all day with Car. I really appreciate you doing that. I wouldn’t have been able to go in for the exams today if it wasn’t for you,” I looked up at him with a small smile. He leaned down and pressed his lips to mine softly, pulling away with his dimples in full-force. “Want to call it a night with your Spanish and join me in bed?”

“Tired?” Matt laughed as I yawned and nodded at the same time. “Did you eat dinner?”

“I picked up Taco Bell on the way home,” I blushed, feeling like a total fat ass. “I couldn’t handle making it all the way here without food in my system. I already ate like shit all day since a donor bought us tons of sweets to keep in the office with the onset of the cubs.”

Matt pulled his arms from my waist and held his hands in the air, “No judgement here. There’s something sexy about a girl who can eat as much as me and still weigh under 115 pounds.” I rolled my eyes at his comment and he laughed, smacking my butt lightly, “Let’s get you to bed.”

Sleep came to me as soon as my head hit the pillow, or should I say, Matt’s pillow. I had managed to snag his favorite pillow from him because he had to use the bathroom before getting into bed. It was the perfect amount of firmness, and kept your head cool. I earned a scowl from him when he saw it under me, then felt him snuggle up as close as possible to me to put his head on it as well. We had woken up at one point during the night, or, I could say that I had woken up at one point during the night to Matt’s face tucked between my legs. According to him, I was halfway to my orgasm when I woke up, and that he had been lapping away for about ten minutes before my eyes opened. My cheeks went crimson when he had told me this, realizing that what I thought was a wet dream, was actually reality.

The sun came through the sides of the curtains in Matt’s bedroom, causing the shadows behind my eyelids to turn an orange hue. I stretched my neck out, pulling the blanket covering our naked bodies up higher on my chest, then snuggling my shoulders into Matt’s abdomen. The top of my head rested under his chin as the arm he had around my waist tightened, then loosened, his left hand now caressing my bare thigh. Waking up next to Matt, intimately, almost made me feel as if I was sixteen again and didn’t have responsibilities, didn’t have children. That thought quickly was replaced with an internal groan as I heard Carson calling for me on the other side of the locked bedroom door.

“I’ll be right there, baby,” I cooed while slinking out of Matt’s grip. I stood up and looked at the bed, Matt lying there with a small smirk on his face, staring at my exposed body. “Are we still on for weekday brunch?”

He nodded and sat up, swinging his legs to the side of the bed, “Yes we are. I need a hot shower first. My back feels broken from taking you like that.”

I laughed as I pulled on a pair of shorts, “That was your idea. Maybe you need to stick to positions for old men.”

“I’ll remember you said that,” he bumped his shoulder into mine while walking toward the bathroom. He closed it behind him and I heard the shower start running while I pulled the sheets up on the bed we shared last night.

“Momma!” Carson’s voice sounded again.

“I’m coming,” I answered him while opening the door. He was standing with his arms crossed over his chest, already dressed with everything but his shoes on. “How long have you been up?”

He shrugged his shoulders and then grabbed onto my leg, hugging it tightly. “I am hungry, Momma.”

“Matty’s in the shower, so how about you and I sneak off for some donuts?” I asked my son while picking him up and kissing him on the nose. “Get your shoes on and I’ll grab my purse. We have to be very quiet and sneaky so he doesn’t hear us.”

Carson and I snuck out of the house without Matt even noticing. He was too busy singing that same song in Spanish while in the shower when we left, and I’m sure he got all wrapped up in trying to make it perfect that he didn’t realize we were gone. We went to a place right outside of Matt’s neighborhood where they made donuts fresh in the morning, a little mom and pop shop. Carson got a sprinkled donut and chocolate milk, while I grabbed a coffee and a muffin. Matt and I had plans for brunch, just the two of us, so I would feel bad if I had eaten my fill with Car. When we got back to Matt’s, he was waiting for us in the living room, watching SportsCenter. He looked at us with an eyebrow raised as Carson giggled like a mad man, not telling him where we had been. I had Carson grab his backpack so we could take him to daycare while Matt convinced me to let him drive rather than me.

“Hey, Ms. Ridley,” I smiled at the woman at the front desk while we walked into the daycare building. “Sorry we were late this morning. Someone needed a donut fix.”

“Cash has been wondering where you’ve been,” Ms. Ridley smiled down at Carson, then looked back up at me. I saw her eyes dart to Matt, who was standing behind me, “Are you here for Cash, Mr. Sanders?”

“Nope. Just came with Liv and the donut fiend,” Matt laughed lowly while extending his left arm around my waist. He leaned closer to me, whispering into my ear, “Get donuts without me again and see what happens.”

I laughed quietly and bumped my hip against his, then looked down at Carson. “You be a good boy today, Car. Stay out of trouble and I’ll be by to pick you up later. Remember, don’t get too messy because we’re getting dinner with GiGi tonight.”

“Yes, Momma. I know,” Carson smiled and hugged me as I squatted down. He gave me a kiss on the cheek, no longer accepting my kisses on the lips anymore. I leaned in and kissed his forehead, “Gross.”

“You’re gross,” I laughed and ruffled his curly hair before he ran to the back, probably to find Cash. I stood up and felt Ms. Rildey’s eyes still on Matt and I, “See you later.”

The red-headed woman gave me a small smile, “Nice seeing you both.”

Matt and I walked back toward his truck, hand in hand. He sported a smile on his face as he talked about Ms. Rildey’s reaction to realizing that we were a couple. She had known that Matt and I swapped who was picking the boys up some days, and that he had been getting Carson a lot recently, but figured it was probably just because the boys were best friends. She had been there when the whole awkward situation went down in the beginning, but I assumed that she hadn’t realized that we were seriously together.

When we got over to the truck, Matt walked to the passenger side with me. He leaned me up against the door and pressed his lips against mine, mumbling, “How about we get out of the Beach and go somewhere different?”

“I’d like that a lot,” I smiled up and him, my eyes catching his dimples, and throwing my arms around his shoulders. “Somewhere with outdoor seating?”

“Whatever you want,” he grinned down at me.

“There are children here, you know,” a female’s voice pulled us away from our trances. I looked over and my eyes met Kennedy’s, standing toward the bed of Matt’s truck. She had a scowl on her overly made-up face.

I could hear Matt groan at the sound of her voice. His hazel eyes met mine with an eye-roll as he looked toward her. He looked like he didn’t feel like dealing with her, but then again, neither did I. He grabbed my arm and pulled my back away from the door, opening the door for me to get in, “Goodbye, Kennedy.”

I went to get into the truck as she spoke again, “And Matt, call me when you’re done with the broke, teen mom and want a real woman in your life.”

Notes

Kennedy is a bitch!
How do you guys feel about Liv's drawbacks?!

Things are getting pretty serious... but will they ever be in an actual relationship???
