Groundhog Day

Mei groaned when she woke up. Her head hurt, her mouth was dry and she was pretty sure that if she would open her eyes her eyes would burn out because of the intolerance of light. She never should have gotten drunk last night, but there was no other way to forget what was happening at midnight. She just wanted the time to stop 5 minutes to 12, before the clock would strike and bring her into her terrible thirties. She remembered thinking it. Hoping the time would stop.

But here she was, clearly the time had passed, bringing that terrible headache with it. Meaning she did turn 30 last night.
“Ugh, I’m not old enough to be 30” she sighed as she turned on her back and opened her eyes. For a moment she was confused about the scenery. Then she remembered her best friend talking her into getting a hotelroom for her new year’s eve, her new year’s eve on the verge of being 30.

Mei had insisted on them both getting their own room in an attempt to be able to go through this hell that she called her birthday by herself, but she knew that wasn’t going to take long. She knew it would be a matter of time before Kim would break through the door that was connecting their rooms.

Lucky for Mei she was an early bird and Kim was more of a sleep the whole day kinda girl. A glance at the time told Mei she had at least a few hours to herself before the party would commence (her best friend’s words, not hers). She leaned back in the fluffy pillows and enjoyed the comfortable bed. Okay. This had been a great idea. It was definitely better than waking up in her own small apartment.

She grabbed her phone from the nightstand. As expected she had received a lot of messages, people congratulating her for her birthday. It made her feel a little better. She even had to stifle a laugh when she noticed the joke Kim had pulled on her.

Mei got a strange feeling reading the messages. As if she had already read them. Many times. She shook her head to get rid of the thoughts running in her mind. Shit. Bad idea she thought when she was greeted by a persistent pounding. Even though the headach was killing her, she got the chills from the sensation of having done this before. This must be how severe case of déjà vu feels like, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it. It was a very foreign feeling she was having. And in the back a little voice, telling her that this was it and she better enjoy it. Damn, she must be going crazy.

And hell, how drunk did her best friend think she was for her to believe that these guys would actually send her birthday messages. It did instantly lift her mood though. She heard some movement on the other end of the room. Still busy with her phone she called out “I MIGHT BE OLD BUT I’M NOT CRAZY, KIM! AND BY THE WAY! YOU FORGOT JIMMY!”

Then she looked up, expecting to find her best friend. But all she found were the baby blues she had admired so much in pictures and then suddenly, it turned dark. A hysterical laugh was the only thing she heard and then nothing. She must have a blindfold on or something, because how hard she tried, she couldn’t see anything. As for the sound, it was too quiet. Nobody could be this quiet. Would she be wearing ear mufflers besides the blindfold? It probably was the only logical information why her senses had been shut down. It didn’t explain though why she needed her senses muffled.

“Mei oh Mei I’m so happy to be with you here on this beautiful day” a voice sang. Apparently the mufflers of her ears had been taken off again. “I need to sing for you first, before we will head to your surprise!” She could have sworn that was the voice of the drummer of her favorite band. That couldn’t be right? The eyes, the laugh, the voice. It was all screaming Jimmy, but she didn’t even know the man, so how… Her suspicions were confirmed the minute the blindfold came off too.

The tall and lanky drummer was standing in front of her. He had some kind of hat on his head that said Happy Birthday and there were stringers thrown around. Then the distinctive sound of his voice “Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Meike, happy birthday to youuuuuuu!”
He pounced on her, giving her a very tight hug. “Ohhh congratulations beautiful, crazy girl! 30 is so special! We are going to have so much fun today and then tonight! I’m going to play all your favorite tracks!” He leaned over to loudly whisper her ear “I changed the setlist, the others don’t know yet, but they will agree, I’m sure they will!”

He clapped his hands excitedly before he kissed her cheek.
“I’m going to have to blind and deafen you again, this needs to be a surprise! But now you are already like this, maybe you can dress yourself? That would be so much easier and quicker than that I have to do it. Please?”

Mei couldn’t even begin to find words for what she wanted to say. He was here. Jimmy. Just like she had always imagined him, too enthusiastic, too happy and too zappy.

“Go go go we need to head out or we won’t have time for everything I have planned. He pushed her towards the bathroom where she found an outfit. She shook her head. She couldn’t comprehend what was going on, but she dreamt about this day. And now Jimmy was here. She couldn’t let that chance slide.

She was putting on her shoes when the door flew open and she was pulled out of the again. “Okay! Darkness and silence for you now… I will be right back with you!” Jimmy put on the blindfold and the ear mufflers and then got a tight hold, guiding her to god knows where. She felt that she was put in a car, she also felt the car moving, but everything else… she had no clue.

When the car finally stopped Mei was bursting of excitement. She was very curious on where Jimmy would take her and what they would do today. She just hoped she wasn’t going to make a fool of herself. She wasn’t sure that she was as adventurous as the man that was taking her out today.

The scene that was before her when the mufflers and the blindfold were taken off, brought a huge smile on her face “The carnival?! This is fucking awesome!” She let out a squeal and jumped up and down “It has been forever since I’ve been to the carnival!”

Mei looked at Jimmy expectantly, meeting his happy face.
“Sure, if you think last month is forever I’m totally fine with it.” He chuckled “I know how much you love the carnival, so I thought this would be a great activity to spend your birthday”
Mei wanted to correct him, tell him she hadn’t been to a carnival last month, but Jimmy had put an arm around her shoulder and there was no way she was thinking straight anymore. “Happy Birthday Mei, I hope it’s okay I wanted you all to myself today” he kissed her cheek quickly and she saw him blush. Eh, what?!

“Eh, well, eh, what do you want to do first?” Jimmy stuttered, quickly correcting himself “What do you think about starting quiet first at the giant’s stride?” Mei nodded, she didn’t trust her voice. She didn’t know how she deserved being here with Jimmy. She was completely clueless on how he wanted to be alone with her, did that mean that in this weird dream she was friends with the others too? She didn’t want to think about it. She just wanted to enjoy this day, with this man.

The giant’s stride was very much fun. It had 2 person benches. With Jimmy being as tall as he was and Mei being at least a foot smaller, them being together in one of those benches brought them completely out of balance. The bench was flying everywhere except the right one and it had them laughing loudly. When they came out they were still laughing, receiving weird looks by the other visitors.

Before Mei could even begin to walk for the next ride, Jimmy already put his arm around her again. When she looked up to him, she caught him looking down on her and he quickly diverted his eyes. They walked together, Jimmy holding back his step, being attentive to Mei’s shorter legs, not going too fast. When they passed the giant’s stride for the second time Mei let out a small giggle “Jimmy, we are walking in circles”
He looked around as if he had just noticed his surroundings “Yeah. I guess we are. It’s just…”He looked down on her again “I’m amazed on how well you fit under my arm. You would expect that I would have to bend my back in weird angles to reach down to you, but I don’t”

Mei stopped dead in her tracks and looked at Jimmy annoyed “I hate being small, you know. I don’t need you to point it out to me”
“But-“ Jimmy started. Mei didn’t want to hear it, the calm between them gone. If he wanted to give her a great day he shouldn’t be focusing on everything she hated, her birthday, her tininess. She needed to get away from him. She stormed off with a huff, leaving a very confused Jimmy behind.

A drop tower attraction was a little ahead and by the screams of it, it should be a great one. Mei decided that was her next ride, if Jimmy would joined her or not. The wind would blow all these weird feelings of not belonging right out of her. The rush would definitely set her heart in place too. She was standing in line when Jimmy caught up with her. “Hey! Hey Mei! Excuses me, Excuse me, I’m with her” he weaseled his way through the people that were behind her in the line until he was next to her.
“Why are you so angry?” His confused face had a hint of sadness and for a second Mei felt really guilty. Was she overreacting?

“Because you chose a great day to point out all my shortcomings!” she glared at him “if you dare make a short joke I will definitely kill you!” Jimmy held up his hands in defense.
“What do you mean? Shortcomings?” he seemed to have no idea what she meant. So she pointed it out to him clearly “Me turning fucking 30 today! Me being short always!”
“But I wasn’t commenting on any of that! I just liked-“

“Miss, Sir, please continue to the ride, you are keeping up the line”

They took a seat in the ride and buckled up. There was silence between them all the way up. When they halted on the top Jimmy turned to Mei. “I wasn’t mocking you. You are beautiful. You don’t look 30 if you are worried about that. And I didn’t mean that you are so short. Just that you fit me perfectly. I like you Mei. More than just friends” Mei’s face shot towards Jimmy’s, but before she could reply the ride did what it should. It dropped.

Mei’s heart jumped from the adrenaline, but she was sure that it wasn’t only the ride. That small remark Jimmy made got her heart racing even before her body realized she was dropping from I don’t know how high. As soon the girdle was released Jimmy was in front of her. He put both hands on the seat. One left of her face, one right. “Did you hear me? That I like you?” Mei watched him from below her lashes and nodded. “Good. Then I’m going to kiss you now. Okay?” Again only a nod. And then nothing, just Jimmy. Their first kiss short and sweet.

“Fucking youngsters. Go get a room or something!” the employee of the ride shooed them out.

Jimmy held Mei’s hand and dragged her behind him until they were in between two food stalls. The space only small, but big enough for them to stand. Her against the booth, him as close to her as he could. Pushing his large body to hers he let no mistake that his claim just now had been true.
“I can’t believe I kissed you” he beamed. Mei giggled “Me neither”
“I’ve been wanting to do that for such a long time… You wouldn’t believe it.” He gently stroke a strand of her out of her face before just stroking her cheeks. He stared at her and she couldn’t do anything else but get lost in his eyes. Those blues such deep pools of so much undiscovered.

This time, when he kissed her, Mei was prepared. She closed her eyes and her hands found their way into his neck, playing with the strands of hair that lay there. Her hands were leading a life of their own as her lips were expertly teased by the man she never thought would be in her arms. Jimmy let the kiss evolve. Calm at first, but quickly demanding as he slipped his tong into her mouth. They both didn’t seem to get enough. Not able to be as close to each other as they would really want. And then there was this small thing of them needing air. So when the vendor came out to throw out his trash and send them on their way, they were heavily panting.

“This is so unreal” Mei whispered
“You can say that again” Jimmy grinned, while he stopped her and claimed his lips as his again.

“Come on, there are so many rides we still have to try” Jimmy broke their kiss and grabbed Mei’s hand. Walking next to him, kissing him every few steps had Mei in a complete dreamworld. She didn’t know what was happening, but she sure liked it. She could get used to this.

They did the faster rides first and then Jimmy bought her hotdogs, cotton candy and shot her a bear at the shooting gallery. After that, they spend the whole ride in the Ferris wheel kissing. Mei didn’t resist Jimmy’s wandering hands and let him go second base but over the shirt. “Fuck Mei… This is escalating fast”
Mei giggled, enjoying every bit of the pace they had. Yes, it was fast, but she didn’t care. It felt so right.

When the cart stood still at the top, Jimmy stopped their heavy making out and looked down. “There aren’t many people around. Guess they all went home” He looked at Mei and she noticed a naughty twinkle in his eyes “How adventurous are you?”
For a second Mei didn’t know if she was ready for this, but when he kissed her again, she threw all her objections overboard. “With you? Very”
“Good, because I really want you and I know just the place”

As soon as the cart was at the lowest point and the little door opened, Jimmy jumped out, taking Mei on his back. He quickly rushed over to the haunted house. As he expected there was no line and he quickly put Mei in one of the carts. He talked to the employee for a few minutes and slipped him some money. Then he joined Mei.

As soon as they entered the dark Jimmy was all over her. His hands now quickly finding their way under her shirt, getting a hold of her breast. His other hand was already on its way pushing her skirt up. “Jimmy!”
“No worries” he replied in between kisses “that friendly man outside owes me a favor. I bought it from him for a lot of money”. He had barely finished his sentence when the cart suddenly stopped and Jimmy grinned “I love it when people do as I tell them to”

Jimmy kissed Mei’s expertly and even though she was worried about doing anything more than kissing in a public place like this, every sane thought seemed to leave her head.
“Shit, I want you so much” she moaned out when Jimmy sucked the sensitive skin just below her ear. “I knew you would join the adventure” More kisses, more hands.

She didn’t know how he had managed it so quickly, but her panties had disappeared and Jimmy’s jeans were around his knees. “Come, sit on my lap”

Mei did as he told her, but looked at him weirdly. Quickly she understood why she had to cover her ears. Jimmy whistled loudly in a special signal. Instantly the carts started moving again.

Jimmy turned towards Mei. “I’m very much in love with you. I know I shouldn’t say it after a first date, but it is true. I have been for a while. I also know that you feel embarrassed about what just happened, but I really wish you wouldn’t. It was amazing and you were save with me. You know that, right?”
Mei nodded and strangely believed it too. “Good” he smiled, not resisting kissing her.

The cart rolled out of the haunted house and Jimmy helped Mei out of the cart, pulling her straight to his chest.

“Happy 30th, Mei.”
