A Lifeless Dream

Chapter 2

The flight to Huntington Beach was surprisingly nice. I was asleep for most of the trip, I woke up less than an hour before the plane landed. During the whole flight even when I was sleeping I was listening to music. Music was like a second passion to me after photography, it was there when I needed and it could always achieve to relax me and make me think that eventually everything is gonna be alright.

After I got out of the plane I went to collect my luggage. The time in Huntington was 7:00 p.m. and I was sure I would be jet lacked because the time difference between here and in England was huge. The airport was full of people but there was one thing that caught my eye. There was a little family waiting for their flight and they reminded me of my family. The parents were grinning from ear to ear as they were holding their daughters. A sigh escaped my lips...my parents used to be like that. We were a happy family and then everything changed.

I tried to chase away those thoughts from my mind. I'm here to make a new start. I got out of the airport to find a taxi to take me to my new home. I had already bought a house near the sea with the money that my mother left me in her will. I don't know why but she had made a will a couple of years ago. The homeowner helped me to arrange the furniture and all the other staff that I needed to bring here from England and I was thankful for that.

I found a taxi, got in and gave the taxi driver the address to my new house. During the drive I couldn't help but looking at the beautiful sky above Huntington Beach. The sun was slowly going down and the sky was a mix of orange, red and a little bit of purple. It was amazing. I was mesmerized by its beauty. I got out of my thoughts when the taxi stopped in front of a beautiful house which I recognized as my new house. I paid the driver and got out to get my bags.

I noticed a woman standing in front of the door. She must be the owner I thought and started walking towards the door and her. Her gaze fell on me and she smiled.

"Hello you must be Alicia! I'm Isabelle Taylor the home owner. Nice to finally meet you" she said and shook my hand. I had only spoken to her through the telephone and I was glad to finally meet her in person. She was close to my age she had blonde hair which was covering her shoulders and two big green eyes. She was wearing a red summer dress and black sandals. I must say he was beautiful.

"Nice to meet you too." I said to her. I was nervous because she was the first person I’ve met since I put my foot in Huntington.

"I came here to welcome you and give you the key to your new house" she said and gave me my key.

"Thank you very much! Really! You did so much for me and you don't even know me" I took the key and opened the door.

"You're welcome. I did it because I know how it is to move so far away from your home and especially alone" she told me and got in behind me.

"Do you want to stay for a bit? I don't have anything in the fridge but we could talk" that reminded me that I have to go to the grocery store to buy staff to fill the fridge or I am going to starve.

"Maybe some other time. I have to go back to work but I left you my phone number and directions for the grocery store and everything else I thought you may need until you settle in" a sigh of relief escaped my lips. That girl was amazing.

"You are amazing thank you for everything. I hope we can hang out sometime" she was close to my age so I thought we could be friends I really need one right now.

"Of course just give me a call whenever you want" she smiled and waved me goodbye.
Once the door was closed I thought it was time to explore the house. It was quite big. The kitchen walls were painted in a light green colour which I loved and the kitchen table was in a matching colour with the walls and so was the rest of the furniture. Above the sink was a window that you could see the back yard and I spotted some red roses paint. I smiled to myself because they were my favourite.

Then I went to the living room. The walls were painted in a welcoming cream color and they were matching with the furniture that I picked a month ago. There was a big window that leads to the back yard. I opened the window and got out to see the back yard. The smell coming from the flowers that Isabelle had planted before I came was just awesome and because the house was near the sea you can smell the salty air that was coming from there. I closed my eyes and just smelled the pleasant aroma coming from the flowers and the sea. For one moment I forgot everything that had happened and I felt happy.

I closed the window as I stepped into the house. I got upstairs and opened the door to my bedroom. 'Yay' I said inside of me. The walls were painted in a deep purple color, my favorite and I had a king sized bed. I noticed that the room had a closet and I opened to see it...

"OH MY GOD!" I said out loud… It was fucking huge! I could fit my clothes and not only mine but clothes of other five people too. I closed the closet and got downstairs to get my luggage. I opened it and put out my PS and flip-flops. I got downstairs and search for the paper with the phones that Isabelle left me. I found it and called to order a pizza.

I sat on the couch and opened the TV and started flipping of the channels until I found a movie to see. I laid my head back and a sigh escaped my lips. ‘This is it’ I thought to myself .You did it. Tomorrow your new life begins. I step out of my thought when the doorbell rang meaning my pizza is here. I opened the door and paid the delivery boy leaving him an extra tip.

I sat back on the couch watching TV and eating my pizza. After I ate I placed the rest of the pizza in the coffee table and I headed upstairs. I was exhausted. I laid my body to my new king sized bed. Oh the comfort… I could sleep for days in this bed. I closed my eyes. ‘Tomorrow is going to be a big day ‘was the last thing I thought before I drifted off to a dreamless sleep.

My sleep was nothing near dreamless. All night I kept having nightmares about my mother screaming to me for help. I was screaming her name but I couldn't move to help her even if I wanted to and I wanted to help her so badly. I ended up waking up screaming covering in sweat. I tried to sleep but I failed. The dream kept coming into my head never letting me in peace.

I was scared...scared that the first nights will come back. During a week since my mother’s death I couldn't sleep. I kept having nightmares about how she died...and it was awful. I could only sleep when David was holding me...I used to snuggle into his chest and have a good sleep. Now I'm far away and I can't even trust David because of what he did to me.

I got out of bed eventually giving up the hope to sleep. I looked at the clock and it was 8.am...I decided to have a shower and go out to have breakfast since my fridge was empty. I got out of the shower and wore a black tank top, a pair of skinny jeans and my black all-star. I caught my hair into a messy pony tail and got out of my house.

Thankfully my car was here the night before I came so I wouldn't have to call a taxi. I got in and drove to the beach. I found a nice little place to eat by the sea. I sat on the table and waited for the waiter to come and take my order. While I was waiting my gaze fell upon the sea. It was beautiful as the sun fell over the sea and it made it look magnificent. The sand was shining beneath the sun. I felt that if I approached the sea for a minute, all my problems would disappear making the beach the ideal place to be.

The waiter came and snapped me out of my thoughts. I order a coffee and some pancakes. After I ate my breakfast I was full of energy to start my day. I got into my car and headed to the grocery store. I took a cart and started placing staff I that I will need for my new kitchen. After I collect all the things that I will need I paid for them and placed them in my car, I turned the engine on once again now headed to the market.

After all the shopping that I needed to do I got back home and placed all the staff in their places. I decided that it was time to unpack my staff. I started with my clothes which weren't much that reminded me that I need to go shopping as soon as possible. I made the wrong decision and unpacked the pictures that I had brought with me.

I took the photo of me and my mum in my hands and stared at it. We were so happy. I still remember that day; my sister came home telling us that she got into the university that she wanted so badly. It was her dream to be a fashion designer and we were happy that she would be able to achieve it. The picture was taken at the party that we throw for her.

I felt a tear rolling down my cheek and I wiped it immediately. I didn't want to cry any more. I came here to be happy. I placed the picture on my nightstand...Although the picture made me sad I wanted to stare at it and remember my mother for the good times that we shared…

Three hours of unpacking and I was literally exhausted. All I wanted was to get into my bed and sleep but my stomach had other thoughts. I made macaroni and cheese sat on the couch and ate while watching TV. I felt a yawn escaped my lips and I knew it was time for bed.

I changed into my pj s, got into my bed and snuggle into one of my pillows. This time I drifted into a dreamless sleep and I was thankful to myself for that. Maybe after all everything will be alright...I guess…
