Sophia's POV

I stared back at Matt. Hearing him tell me that he loves me after all these years really fucked up everything I had been thinking for the past hour. I loved him too and I wouldn't deny it. I think even Brian knew that.

We've had so much history, me and Matt. Now we're grown up adults and need to make a choice with what we're doing. My mind was a surging perplexity; I had to say something back to him urgently. It had been minutes since he told me.

"I'm leaving tomorrow" I puzzled up a sentence ordering an excuse.

"What does that matter?" Matt frowned, holding onto my shoulder. "I said I love you, no matter where you are-"

"10 hours from here.."

"Sophia.."

"And you're busy with the band-" I remarkably found a million excuses to make to stall Matt as I actually had no idea what to say to him. His words and actions are divergent. They pull in opposite directions as if his brain's narrator and navigator have entirely different ideas about the world. He left me and said he loved me, would he do this again? He loves me with words, resent me with actions - actions that slip from him more easily than leaves from the fall trees. So why couldn't he just let me go? Is it pride? Guilt? Was he confused too? I couldn't help but remember Brian calling out his temper and anger and worried something would erupt from him one day.

"I don't care" he smiled. "I want you" he edged himself closer towards me. "I want you more than anything" his hand raised to my cheek, he stroked it sweetly and warmingly. I felt my eyes close at his touch. "I know you want me too"

"It's complicated" I sighed, enjoying the bliss of his hands. I opened my eyes. He gives me a smile that just seems so genuinely sweet with just the right touch of shyness that unexpected warmth rushes through me. The way his lips lifted upward. The way his one dimple crinkles. The way his teeth are perfectly aligned. The warm glow his happiness gives. His smile is a ray of sunshine, and I am a sunburn.

"I will look after you for the rest of my life Sophia," he pleaded.

"Matt," I sighed, almost giving into his charm. He placed his finger on my lips. Said no word. Presented me his smile. His lips brush mine. Not innocently, like a tease but hot, fiery, passionate and demanding. I want to pull away before I lose myself but I can’t seem to. In this minty moment, my senses have been seduced and I can no longer think straight.

“Sophia,” he whispers slowly, prolonging each letter as if to savor them. I smile, my heart fluttering at his voice as I clasp my hands on either side of his face. Never before has my name ever felt so wonderful a one I think, as I lean in for anotherer. The next thing I knew, he had slammed his lips to mine and nearly knocked all wind from my lungs. I hardly had a moment to react before he pressed his tongue to the seam of my lips and, at my grant of access, delved inside my mouth. It was a very sloppy kiss with the strong scent of old whiskey being exchanged in the intermingling of our billowing breaths. My arms reached up and tangled around his thick, strong neck. In an instant I had pulled away and arched up into his broad chest, moaning in the contact of body heat against my own, before I drew back into his lips. I could nearly feel the slight burn of the whiskey as it rolled off my tongue and seeped down my throat with every push of his tongue against mine.

I was so in love with him. And a fool to ever think otherwise.
