Zachary

I drive Evelyn and myself back to my place in silence. The confrontation with Julie was bothering her but I'm not sure if I should explain it to her or not. She said I don't owe her an explanation and she's right but for some reason I still feel like I should explain. We arrived at the house and Evelyn basically jumped out of the car and began to search for her keys in her purse. She unlocks the door to her car just as I lock the door to mine.

"Evelyn..." I start.

She shakes her head and opens her driver side door. "I have to go, Zack."

"Just let me explain," I tell her.

She shakes her head again. "You don't owe me any explanation, Zack." While she's speaking, she gets into her car and begins to close the door. I catch it.

"I know but I want to." I tell her. She doesn't say anything and so I continue. "Gena and I broke up... after that, for an entire week straight, I laid on my bathroom floor drunk or hung over. The week after that I needed to heal. You know that saying "best way to get over someone is to get under someone else?" Well, that's what I did."

Evelyn scoffed. "So that's all I was? And easy lay to help you get over Gena? That's aw..."

"No," I shook my head, and tightened my grip on the door as she tried to pull it closed, "you want anything like that, Evelyn. I never meant for anything like that to happen between us."

"Right. This was a mistake, I got your note." She rolled her eyes.

"Why are you so mad at me?" I asked her, getting slightly frustrated.

"I'm not," she lied.

"Look, Evelyn, yeah, I'm sleeping around, and I'm sorry you think the reason why I slept with you was because I thought you were an easy lay, because I don't think that at all!" I explain.

"Then why did you sleep with me?" She asked. She seemed embarrassed and refused to look at me while she spoke.

I open my mouth to reply and then closed it instead, shifting through the words to use."Honestly, Evelyn, I don't know. Alcohol was involved and I can't tell you exactly what went on in my mind that night."

She sighed. I knew she wasn't happy with my answer but it was the truth. "I have to go. My mom is expecting me," she said as she attempted to close her door again.

"Can I see you tomorrow before you leave?" I asked her, holding the door open still.

"Zack..." she starts.

I don't know why I wanted to see her so badly. I guess I was beginning to realize how much I missed being around her in the last 12 years. I don't know. "Evelyn, come on. I thought we were trying to be friends."

She gave me a look and I returned it. “Fine." she says after a moment.

I smiled. "Awesome! Let me see your phone."

"Wait, what?" She gave me a confused look. I couldn't help but laugh, it was like she thought I was going to hold her phone hostage until I saw her again. And actually, that wasn't such a bad idea…

“I just want to put my number in it," I tell her with a grin, she reluctantly hands me her phone and I type in my number and save it as Zack :) before sending myself a quick text and handing it back to her. "Okay, so I'll see you tomorrow," I tell her.

"Sounds great," She smiles. I stand there for another moment before she speaks again. "Can I…close my door?" She asked with a slight laugh.

"Oh," I laugh too and close the door for her. "Drive safe." Evelyn gives me a slight wave before she pulled out of my driveway.

Later that night I get dressed and head over to Matts. I've been going back and forth about if I wanted to tell man about me and Evelyn. I knew he would probably get pissed if this friendship with Evelyn worked and I didn't tell him about it but as I walk down the street to Matts I decided I didn't care - if it wasn't for the deal he made with Evelyn, she and I might still be dating. However, as I rang his doorbell another thought occurred - if it wasn't for the deal he made with Evelyn, she probably would have never given me a chance in the first place.

"Zacky V," Valary smiles as she opened the door.

"Hey, are the rest of the guys here already?" I question as I walk in.

"Yeah, they're in the entertainment room." she tells me.

We walk into the living room and to my displeasure I see Gena sitting on the couch with Michelle and Lacey, a glass of wine in her hand. I ignore her as she smiles at me and make my way through the room and towards the back where the entertainment room was. As I neared I heard make music and loud chitchat; I opened the door and Matt and Brian were playing on the Xbox as Johnny watched.

"Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck," Brian cursed as he turned his controller sideways as if it was going to help.

"I told you dude, you will never beat me… Shit!" Matt ground, Brian let out a mechanical laughter and I grabbed a beer.

"Zacky V, you are next, I am about to beat Matt's ass!" Brian hollers.

I took a swig of my beer. "Nah, I got to catch up on drinking."

"Lame ass," he says. Johnny passes me a joint and I take it just as Brian hollers in victory.

"Fuck you," Matt laughs.

Brian takes a gulp of his own beer. "Don't be a sore loser! Short shit, you're up, let's go! I'm on a roll!"

Johnny finished his beer and took Matt's seat. Matt joined me just as I took another hit if the joint. I offered it to Matt and he took it.

"Sorry about Gena. She came with Michelle."

I took another swig of beer. I expected Gena to still hang around. After all, she was our friend before she was my fiancée. "It's fine," I told him. He offered me the joint again but I refused it.
"So, I got a funny phone call this morning," Matt raised his eyebrows at me, I returned his look with a confused one.

"What kind of phone call?" I ask.

Matt laughed. "Seriously?"

I shook my head. "I have no idea what you're talking about, dude."

Matt shook his head too, a faint smile playing in his lips. "Okay," he said. "I'll play along."

"Johnny don't make me beat the shit out of you!" Brian threatened. Matt and I looked at the screen briefly before turning back to each other. Johnny was winning against Brian.

"Evelyn called me this morning," he said.

I didn't even think about that. Of course she called Matt. That must be how she...

"She asked for your address," Matt continued.

I raised my brows and looked away from him. I still hadn’t made up my mind whether or not I was going to tell him about mine and Evelyn's blossoming friendship or not. He was my best friend so of course I wanted him to know. I just didn't want to look stupid again. After our break up, I was able to stay angry because I was so embarrassed. I didn't want to be embarrassed again. I didn't want the friendship to not happen and have everyone tell me how stupid it was of me to let her back into my life. But he was my best friend and I was happy about this decision. I was happy that Evelyn and I were trying this friend-thing.

"Yeah," I said, trying to keep my voice casual. "She stopped by."

Matt looked just as surprised as I figured he would and then his face changed to concern. "Oh, no," he expressed. "What did you do?"

I laughed. "Why do you think I did anything?"

He gave me a look. Johnny screamed something in the background but we ignored him. "She flew across the country to come see you. What did you do to piss her off?"

"I didn't do anything to piss her off," I lied, but j didn't want to tell him the truth. He couldn't know we slept together, he couldn't know I left her in the middle of the night.

"Does this have anything to do with why you stayed in New York when we were there?"
I shrugged. "We're just trying to be friends."

"Huh," Matt nodded and took a swig of his beer.

He didn't say anything else and I didn't press it. "Someone else came and seen me this morning too,"

"Oh, yeah?"

I nodded. "Gena was ringing my fucking doorbell nonstop before I even got out of bed," I half-laughed.

Matt laughed too. "Holy shit, both exes in one day? That's hilarious."

I shook my head, chuckling. "Man, they just missed each other too. It was so weird."

"Did she say what she wanted?" He asked. "Please say she wanted to get back together with you?"

I nodded and he burst out laughing, "Crazy, right?"

"That's fucking great!" He howled with laughter. "She's so fucking..." he lowered his voice, "she's so fucking stupid. Was she serious? After she cheated on you and was a total cunt about it?"

I nodded, turning my attention to the screen Johnny and Brian were still playing on. I didn't want to think about Gena cheating on me.

"What did you tell her?" Matt asked.

I laughed dryly. "What the fuck do you think I told her? There's no way I’d ever fucking get back with her."

"Hm," Matt vocalized.

I asked, "what?"

"Nothing," Matt shrugged. "You have the chance to get back with Gena and you don't, which is understandable. And then you and Evelyn decide to work things out and try to be friends? Just odd timing, I guess."

I shrugged. "It's not like that. It's more complicated.

"Okay," Matt said. "Well, I'm happy for you."

I smiled. I was happy for me too.

Notes

Again, sorry for the lack of updates, guys. I've been so busy! I am offically moved into the new house though, so things will return to normal within the next week. I'm having to borrow my parents computer because although I type things up on my ipad, I'd rather use microsoft word to edit. I ordered a computer today though, so that should be coming in Thursday I think.

Has everyone heard the new album? Do you absolutely loved it? I'm pretty sure I squealed when it was announced during the live event, and then searched apple music for it immediately afterwards. What are your favourite songs? Mine are God Damn and Angels. Have you guys heard the rumor that two albums are being released this year?
