This Means War

Introduction

Addie was excited for her first day of being a junior. It wasn't being so close to getting out of school, for she was only half way there. She kept balancing off each foot by bouncing on them waiting for the bus to come by. This was her first time she was staying for the rest of her school year. She could make friends without being worried by having to leave them behind for another lame school half way across the country. Huntington High was huge when she saw it for enrollment, but that just meant more people and groups to explore.

Around the corner Addie could hear the bus chugging along slowly, smelling the exhaust and hearing the squeaking brakes. Her breath was caught in the back of her throat, would she sit alone? Maybe there was someone she could try sitting next to? What if they didn't like her? All these questions of nonsense blurred through her mind while she started to step up onto the bus.

Her first move was sitting in the front seat next to a girl who only grimaced at her. Well that didn't work out as planned, Addie thought to herself. However she still kept her positive attitude and rested her head on the seat, staring up at the ceiling, mindlessly reading the fire exit instructions. Hopefully school was less boring than this.

Addie tapped her feet on the bus floor, impatiently waiting to arrive at school. Only about 20 minutes later they finished picking up kids and were pulling up to the school. Addie grabbed onto her bag tightly and bit her lip, this was it, what she was hoping to be a great two years. For they were the last before running off to Juilliard in New York for college.

Once the bus stopped she jumped up to her feet and dashed off, stopping and smoothly walking up to the school, seeing all the high schoolers converse and sit with each other. She didn't bother talking to any of them.

Every year was a new school and there was always a day earlier for new kids and freshmen in high school. It was nothing but icebreakers with people you would probably never see in class but it was still worth a try getting to know at least someone.

The only real friend Addie had acquired was in middle school back in North Carolina, her name was Susie, she always wore her brown, ratty hair up in a bun and had a pimply face. Not the most attractive nor smart, but it gave Addie some kind of company.

Addie got her schedule, headed to the class with similar last names for it was alphabetical, and hoped for the best. The only kids here that weren't new, were kids helping out the teachers as extra credit or class aids. She hoped none of them would be picky and point out mistakes because she always found herself biting her nails, tripping or staring off into space, but then again... She could only hope.
