I hate that I love you

Welcome to the family

Judith's Pov
I looked at Sue slowly, who was giving me a reassuring smile. A moment later, I heard Brent say again, "Can Judith stay with us?" I looked at my hands which were now knotted with each other. "I don't see any reason to say no to that. What do you say, honey?" Brent's dad asked Suzy, who looked at me with a cheerful smile. "Will you stay with us, Judith?" she asked.

I really can't process what just happened. How can they agree to take me in so easily? Brent was right! They're actually offering me to stay with them without having any problems. "Judith, say something." Sue said. "We won't pressurize you if you don't wanna live here." Mr. Haner said. "Dad, she's staying! Right, Judith?" Brent said looking at me hopefully. "I'd love to have a female company around as well." Suzy said.

All of them were asking me to stay and all i was doing was gaping at them with a slightly open mouth. "Say something, Judy." Sue muttered, nudging me with an elbow.

"I'd love to stay here with you guys." I said finally.

"Yay!" Sue and Brent cheered while Suzy got up and hugged me. "Thanks a lot, honey." she said and I hugged her back. "I should be the one thanking you guys for letting me stay." I said, still shocked. "It's totally fine, Judith. Welcome to the family!" Mr. Haner said with a smile.

After dinner, Brent, his dad and Sue were sitting in the living room and watching some show on the tv. While I was with Suzy who was busy showing me around the house.

"There are four bedrooms up here. And one guestroom downstairs. Our room is at the corner on the left. The next room's spare, you can take that. Beside that, is Brian's room. And Brent's one is right after his." Suzy explained. "Okay, I think I can remember that." I said and she smiled.

"Would you like to see your room?" Suzy offered. "Sure, I'd love to see it." I said and we entered the second room. It was dark but Suzy turned on the lights once we were inside.

The wooden floor was pale yet full of texture. Shades of blue covered the four walls and a shelf protruded from a wall. Standing at the doorway looking inward, I see a twin size bed directly across from me. A wooden brown dresser stood across from the foot of the bed.

"Do you like it, Judith?" Suzy asked and I looked at her. "It's amazing, I love it." I said and we stepped inside. "That's the washroom on the left and the balcony on the right. If you ever need anything, just let me know or anyone in the house." she said. "Of course." I said and we went down.

"Judith likes her new room, everyone." Suzy said and Brent shot me a smile. "Welcome home, Judy." he said. "Thanks, Brent." I said returning his smile. We sat down in the living room and chatted for some more time until I got a call from Mom. I excused myself from there and went to the dining room.

"Hey, Mom." I said. "Judith, were you sleeping?" she asked. "No, Mom." I said. "I called to say goodnight." she said. "Okay, but before you say that, I have something to tell you." I said. "What is it, hun?" she asked. "I'm moving out from the dorm." I said. "Why? Is everything okay?" she asked. "Everything's fine, Mom. But I just don't like it there that much. I guess I'm failing to adjust myself in there." I said.

"Judith, where will you stay? You don't know anyone in California. Or are you planning to come back?" Mom asked. "Mom, don't be absurd. I'm not coming back so soon. I'll be living with a friend and his family." I said. "Do I know this friend?" Mom asked. "Not really. His name is Brent and he's a really nice guy." I said. "Well, I'd like to see Mr. Nice Guy some time." Mom said and I could feel her smirk.

"Mom, he's Sue's boyfriend." I said and chuckled. "Oops, wrong number." Mom said with a laugh. "Mom." I said, trying to sound serious. "Okay, I'll stop. But can I talk to his family members? His parents?" Mom said. "Why? I've talked to them already." I said. "Judy, you'll be living with them. Don't you think I should get to know them a little?" Mom said. "So you're okay if I stay with them?" I asked. "I don't mind as long as you're happy." she said. "Wait, I'll give the phone to Brent's mom then." I said and went outside.

Sue and Suzy were talking while Brent and his dad's eyes were glued to the tv. "Um, Suzy. Could you come here for a moment?" I said and she looked at me. "Is everything okay, Judith?" she asked. "Yeah, my mom just wants to talk to you." I said motioning to the phone. "Oh, sure." she said and I gave her the phone. She went inside and I plopped down on the couch beside Sue.

"Judy, I'm so happy for you." Sue said and linked her arms with mine. "Thanks, Sue. I owe you and Brent a lot." I said with a smile. "Stop being so formal, Judith Gershner!" she said and slapped my arm playfully. "Will you miss me back in the dorm?" I asked. "Just a little bit, but I'll see you at school. And if I ever miss you a lot, then I can always come here." she said.

"Missing me is just an excuse. I know exactly who you'll come to see." I teased. "You think I'll come to see Brent? Oh boy, he ain't that lucky!" Sue joked. "I didn't take Brent's name though." I said. "Then who did you mean?" she asked in confusion.

After thinking for a few seconds, I said, "Brian, Brent's brother." The moment I said it, Sue made a face and cringed her nose. "May God forbid it." she said. "What's with you and Brian? Is he that bad looking?" I asked. "He's not bad looking, Judith. None of the Haners are. Brian's just....." Sue moved closer and whispered, "....a cocky bastard."

I looked at Sue with a serious expression and furrowed my eyebrows. "Well, I guess some people are cocky. So what?" I asked. "You'll get to know once you meet him." Sue said patting my hand. Suzy came back a few minutes later and handed me my phone.

"It was a pleasure talking to Jennifer." she said with a broad smile. "Looks like you and 'Jennifer' had a good time talking." Sue said and I looked at Suzy. "Oh, we did." she said. "Did she say anything?" I asked Suzy. "Nothing special. But she told me that you love the beaches." she said with a warm smile. I smiled as well and looked at Sue. I guess I'll fit in here perfectly.
