Question All You Trust

Penny's POV
I couldn't help laughing when I pulled Adam into the pool! When he surfaced, we were both laughing.
“Thanks! I wasn't that fond of this suit anyway!” He said.
“Serves you right!” I splashed him.
“I'm amazed the water didn't melt you!” He splashed me back.
“Are you saying I'm a witch?” We were now in a full on splash battle, He took his suit jacket off and it was floating in the pool.
“You have been today, if the broom fits…”
I realized he was right. “You're right and I'm sorry.”
“It's okay, what are friends for?” He suddenly grabbed his jacket out of the water and handed it to me. “You should probably put this on and get out of the pool.”
“Why?” I looked down, the shirt was sheer when wet “Oh shit! I guess you're right.”
We both got out of the pool still laughing. “I guess it isn't like you haven't seen me naked before.”
“This just isn't quite a clinical setting, so it's a little different. But the whole thing was hilarious. If you could have seen your face when I threw you in.”
“I was ready to make you pay!!” I told him. “Speaking of paying, I'll replace your suit and your shoes.”
“No you won't, it's a small sacrifice to get you out of that room.” He said.
“I'll go grab you some dry clothes of Brian's for you and I'll go take a shower.”
“I have my gym bag in the car, I'll just put my workout clothes on.” I could tell he was uncomfortable. “You go ahead and take a shower and I'll change. Then we are going to clean up that guest room and move you back into your and Brian's bedroom.”
“Somebody is bossy today.”
“Hop to it, Mrs. Haner!” He pointed upstairs.
“Yes Sir, Dr. Gabriel!”
Adam’s POV
It was risky, but I had to do something drastic to get Penny to snap out of it. Of course, it was hard to hide the physical reaction I had because of the see through shirt. After we finished cleaning up her mess, we ordered pizza.
“It's nice to have someone to eat with. I think this is the most I've had to eat since I got here.”
“I'm disappointed that you haven't been following the diet I gave you. Have you been drinking alcohol?”
“I at least had the sense to get it all out of the house.”
“That's good, the last thing you need is a depressant. Penny, I think you need to go see someone.”
“I'm not going to a shrink.”
“I'm not suggesting that, just a professional you can talk to.”
“You're a professional and I can talk to you.” She smiled.
“I'm not that kind of professional.” I said very seriously.
“Adam, I have been through counseling multiple times for different things. I just don't want to do that again. What I need right now is a friend who isn't out touring the world or in Ohio.”
“I'm here for you, anytime you need me. I just don't want to make Brian mad.”
“I'll worry about Brian. You need to work on that bedside manner. Throwing a patient in a pool is a little radical.”
“It worked. Is this about that picture?”
“You've seen it?” Then she frowned. “Of course you have, the whole world has.”
“Penny, you can't let it get to you. People like to talk; what matters is what you think. Do you think something happened?”
“No, I know it didn't that night and I trust both of them.” She said. Then the house phone started ringing. I took it as my queue to leave before she said any more about trusting Gwyn.
“Thank you for lunch. Since you are all out of food, do you want me to have some delivered?” I winked at her.
“Thanks to you, I think I can handle doing it myself.”
“I'll see myself out, you should get the phone.”
I heard the phone stop ringing as I walked out, they had hung up. I wanted to stay and be with her, but I couldn't sit there and listen to how much she trusts Gwyn.

Brian's POV
I had called Penny's cell phone and there was no answer. I tried a couple more times and then called the house phone, still no answer. I decided to call her via FaceTime, finally she answered. There was a smile on her face that I was very glad to see.
“Hi Junior!”
“Hi beautiful, almost didn't recognize you with that smile on your face.”
“I know, I'm sorry I've been so down.”
“I'm glad you're feeling better. Did you do anything today?”
“I was in the pool.”
“So you took a swim?”
“Not exactly. I didn't get in voluntarily.”
“I'm confused.”
“Don't get mad, please listen and try to look at this as a good thing.”
“OHHH Kay.” Immediately I knew Adam Gabriel had to be part of this story.
As Penny told me the story, I tried to stay as quiet and as calm as I could. I wanted to explode, but I was afraid that would send her back into her depression.
“I can tell you're upset; I promise you I have eyes only for you.”
“It's not your eyes that I'm worried about.” I said. I waited for her to be angry at me for saying that, but she stayed calm.
“It's my eyes that count. He's a friend and my Doctor, I need both of those right now. But if it bothers you, I will limit him to just my Doctor.” She seemed so much better than she had the last couple of weeks, I couldn't take that away.
“No Penz, I don't want you to do that. As long as you don't feel that he is coming onto you or stepping out of the boundaries of friends.”
“If he ever did, I would put an end to the friendship.” She said.
“I trust that. It is good to see you smile again.”
“You should probably get some sleep. I love you and hopefully soon, I'll be there with you.” She smiled.
“Ok, I love you Penny.”
“I love you too.”
Once I disconnected, I had to let it out.
“Fucking BULLSHIT!” I yelled and threw the drinking glass in my hand against the wall. Seconds later, Gwyn was knocking on my door asking if I was okay.

Gwyn's POV
I was outside Brian's room and heard him yell and then a crash. I knocked on the door.
“Brian? Are you okay?” I called through the door. He opened the door, I could tell immediately that he was very angry.
“I'm fine, I accidentally broke a glass.” He said. I could see glass on the floor and where the contents had burst onto the wall.
“Looks like you accidentally broke it with a wall.” I said. Reminding myself that I was now the kinder gentler Gwyn. “Is Penny okay? Did something happen?”
He invited me in and told me about her depression and Adam coming over.
“You've gone out with this guy, what do you think?” He asked.
“Do you want me to be totally honest?” I asked.
“Yes.”
“I understand that it is disturbing to you. Adam is not a bad guy. I think he does have feelings for her, but Penny would never cheat on you.”
“I know, but”
I cut him off. “But nothing. Why do you think I was hitting on you? I saw how much you two love each other and I was jealous. You didn't cheat with me and she won't cheat with him, no matter how hard he tries.”
“I know, but it's different. You and Penny are friends. Adam and I can barely stand each other.”
“But right now, Penny needs him. You both need to put this animosity aside and do what's best for her.”
“Okay, I will try to trust this guy. I just hate that she has to turn to someone else and I have to be here.” He said.
“Trust me, it will all be over before you know it.” I said with a reassuring smile.
“Thanks Gwyn for talking through this with me. Would you like to go grab something to eat?”
“That sounds great.” I said, in a casual friend tone.
We had a great time. Adam kept texting me and I ignored him and put my ringer on silent. I didn't have time to listen to his whining about Penny.

I know that the last chapters went to a pretty dark place. There is a sequel in the works that promises happier times and new adventures. Thank you for reading.
