Dance as the Sun Slips Away

As Long as We Both Shall Live

Penny's POV
It was the last week of January and I was a nervous wreck, of course Brian wasn't stressed at all. My dress was finally ready for one last fitting. It was exactly as I envisioned. A 1950's vintage inspired V-neckline tulle tea length ball gown, in a rich eggplant color, the bodice was Ivory lace over eggplant and a silk band accented with a bow cinching the waistline. I had dyed my hair dark brown with a subtle purple tint. I loved the color and Brian liked it too. I had ties made for Brian and the groomsmen. The bridesmaids picked the style dress the wanted and the dresses were made in the same eggplant color.
The bachelorette party was a blast, we all got a little crazy. From what I heard and saw pictures of, the bachelor party was the same. Of course, I'm sure it wasn't as crazy as some of the parties Brian had been to in the bands earlier years.
Finally the day arrived. Brian and I didn't go with the whole seeing each other the day of the wedding superstition. I woke up to Brian bringing me breakfast in bed." Happy Birthday Penelope! Ready to become Mrs. Haner?"
"Not if you keep calling me Penelope." I smiled and winked at him. "I've never been more ready for anything."
"I'm going to take off and take care of some things. Meet me at the Gazebo at 3:30?"
"I'll be there!"
He kissed me, "This is the beginning."

Brian's POV
It was the big day and as the day progressed, I was more and more nervous. I hadn't talked to Penny since breakfast. I needed to hear her voice, so I called her.
"Hey there Haner."
"In less than two hours you're going to be a Haner too."
"I will for the rest of my life." She said.
"I'm so glad I called, I needed to hear your voice."
"I needed to hear yours too. I never thought I'd get married again, let alone be connected with anyone like we are"
"I was thinking the same thing, we are lucky." I said.
"We'd both better get ready or we'll be late for our own wedding."
"I Love You Penny."
"I Love You Brian"

Tess’s POV
This was it, my little sister was getting married, again. But something felt different this time, it felt right for the first time. I was so glad to see her so happy. Brian had brought back a light in her that I had not seen since her early twenties.
Brian Sr. played "Till There was You" on the Acoustic guitar as the wedding party proceeded down the path to the gazebo. Brian stood at the front of the Gazebo. The garden leading up to the Gazebo had been redone to allow guests to sit on either side. Johnny and Bianca walked down the path first. Each one of us carried one Ivory Rose and the groomsmen each wore one ivory rose on their lapel, Brain had a purple rose on his lapel. Then Zack and I walked down the path to stand on each side of the Gazebo with Bianca and Johnny. Chloe and Matt were the last to proceed down the path.
Then as Allen escorted Penny, everyone stood. My little sister was glowing. She carried two purple roses. Brian looked incredibly handsome and Penny looked very beautiful, but what really stood out was how they looked at each other. The rest of us were there but you could tell that for Brian and Penny, it was just the two of them.
When Penny and Allen reached Brian, Allen placed Penny's hand in Brian's and they stepped up into the front of the Gazebo where the female officiant stood. Brian and Penny held each other's hands facing each other. That wasn't the way it was at rehearsal, but somehow it was perfect.

"Good afternoon, this is truly a special day" she said. "Two very unique people are becoming one and we are all here to share it."
"Penny and Brian, you fell in love by chance, but you're here today because you're making a choice. You both are choosing each other. You've chosen to be with someone who enhances you, who makes you think, makes you smile, and makes every day brighter. You're about to make promises to each other that you intend to keep. You're going to vow to take care of each other, to stand up for one another, and find happiness in the other. There's a simple premise to each of these promises: you're vowing to be there. You're teaming up and saying to the other, "Every experience I am going to have, I want you to be a part of."
"The couple have memorized their vows and will share them now and exchange rings. Brian?"

"I Brian, take you Penny to be my wife, my partner in life and my one true love. I will cherish our union and love you more each day than I did the day before. I will trust you and respect you, laugh with you and cry with you, loving you faithfully through good times and bad, regardless of the obstacles we may face together. I give you my hand, my heart, and my love, from this day forward for as long as we both shall live."
Matt handed Brian the ring and he put it on Penny's finger.
"Penny?" The officiant said,
"I Penny, take you Brian to be my husband, my partner in life and my one true love. I will cherish our union and love you more each day than I did the day before. I will trust you and respect you, laugh with you and cry with you, loving you faithfully through good times and bad, regardless of the obstacles we may face together. I give you my hand, my heart, and my love, from this day forward for as long as we both shall live."
Chloe handed Penny the ring and she put it on Brian's finger.
They never stopped looking at each other. The officiant continued.

"May your marriage bring you all the exquisite excitements a marriage should bring."
"May you need one another, but not out of weakness."
"May you want one another, but not out of lack."
"May you look for things to praise, often say, "I love you!" and take no notice of small faults."
"May you have happiness, and may you find it making one another happy."
"May you have love, and may you find it loving one another."
"I now proclaim you husband and wife."
Brian and Penny kissed before she could even tell them too. The officiant smiled and said.
"I was going to suggest that, but I guess you two don't need me to."
Brian and Penny broke the kiss and finally looked at her.
They turned around to everyone. The officiant then said.
"Family and Friends, I now present Mr. and Mrs. Brian Haner Jr."

Everyone clapped and cheered. I think I even heard someone whistle. Brian picked up Penny and spun her around like a child with a doll. After he put her down, they kissed again and walked down the path into the house. There was no receiving line, just a celebration with food, drinks and dancing.
Several people commented that it was one of the shortest ceremonies they had ever seen, I told them that was the way they wanted it. I'm pretty sure the real vows were between the two of them as the stood there unable to look at anyone else.

Penny's POV
I looked at the man standing in front of me and thought of all the fears and doubts I had when we met and even after we fell in love. I had none of those fears and doubts anymore. I looked into those beautiful brown eyes and knew he was where my heart would be forever.
We apologized to the Officiant, for altering the ceremony and not looking at her until the end. She said not to be sorry, it was perfectly us.

Brian's POV
I looked at the beautiful woman standing in front of me, she looked right into my eyes and I looked back into hers. I saw the blue eyes that were angry and upset when I first looked into them. The eyes that within one day became those of my best friend, my lover and soulmate for the rest of my life.
The day could not have gone any closer to what we wanted, we kept it very simple. We did have a photographer and some impromptu toasts. Dinner, dancing, drinks and fun were the theme of the evening.
We were leaving the next day for our honeymoon, we could have gone anywhere. We had been overseas together, on a Caribbean cruise and all over the Continental United States. We both agreed that we wanted to go back to where we first vacationed together 2 years earlier. The Island in Florida. Just us, no autographs, no haters, no screaming fans, no pictures and just enjoying each other.
But first, we had a wedding night to enjoy.

I know that the last chapters went to a pretty dark place. There is a sequel in the works that promises happier times and new adventures. Thank you for reading.
