I Will Wait For You

Life's a Beach

I wake up, and turn over in bed, half expecting to see Matt lying next to me. He’s not. I sit up, and look around. I look over at my clock; it’s eleven in the morning. I hurriedly look at my phone, expecting it to be Monday, in which case I’d be late for work, but its Sunday. I can’t believe it, but I think I just had one weird ass dream. It was all just a dream. Matt never came over to check on me.

I breathe a sigh of relief. None of that crazy shit that I pulled actually happened. Thank God!
I quickly shower, and pull on some clothes. I think I’ll just have a lazy day, today. I’m still feeling a little weird from last night, anyway. I head downstairs to my kitchen, I am starving right now.

When I pass the living area, the door suddenly opens. I practically jump out of my skin.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.” Alexa says, still holding the door knob. Matt and the rest of the guys are standing behind her.

“Oh, you didn’t mean to scare me? We are going to have a serious discussion about you barging in to my house.” I frown at her.

“At least you had the door locked this time.” She smiles.

“Apparently that still won’t keep you out.” I can’t help but smile at her smiling, it’s infectious, I guess. “I thought I told you only to use the spare key, in case of emergencies…”

“You did.”

“Well, what would be the emergency?”

“We are having a beach day.”

“Sounds really urgent.” I say, walking into the kitchen to get something to eat. Alexa lets herself and the guys in, and proceeds to follow me into my kitchen.

“I think you could use a little sunshine, Lake. You’ve had a pretty shitty past few days. You should really go. We are going to have a picnic, and just spend the day relaxing and swimming.”

“I hope you guys have fun.” I say, reaching into my fridge for a cup of yogurt. I guess this will do for now, I really have to go grocery shopping, soon.

Alexa scowls at me. “What’s crawled up your ass?”

“You just said it, Lex, I’ve had a shitty past few days. I just want to stay at home and relax today, before I have to go back to work tomorrow.”

“This will be relaxing!”

“Sitting at home doing nothing is relaxing to me, and that’s what I intend to do.” I finish my yogurt, and throw the cup in the trash can. I walk back into the living room, where the guys have made themselves at home on the furniture.

“So, are we going?” Brian asks, mainly to Alexa.

“She’s being a Debbie-downer today. She doesn’t want to go.”

“What? Why not?” Johnny asks me.

“I just feel like staying at home today.”

“I told you, she’s being a Debbie-downer.”

“Lex, please don’t be like this today.”

“I’m not being like anything. I just want you to come out and enjoy sometime with me and our newfound friends.”

“I’m not going.” I scowl at her.

“You are.” She frowns back at me. She grabs my hand and drags me upstairs, and into my bedroom. She closes the door behind us, as soon as we’re inside. “You’re not getting out of this bedroom, until you are changed and ready for the beach.” She stands in front of the door, and crosses her arms.

“You’re trying to be intimidating, but it’s not really working.” I laugh at her.

“Don’t make this difficult, Lake. I really want you there. Please do this for me.” She gives me her puppy-dog eyes.

I sigh. “Why do you want me to go so bad? Brian will be there for you to flirt with!”

“Keep your voice down. I know he will be there, but I need you there, too. You know, for moral support.”

“You don’t need my help getting Brian to like you.”

“Matt wants you there.”

“Is that so?” I ask, disbelievingly.

“Yeah. In the car, on the way over here, he asked if you’d be joining us.”

I laugh. “Please. He hardly knows me.”

“I think he likes you, though. And you aren’t even giving him a chance!”

“Fine.” I sigh, again. “I’ll give him a chance.”

She smiles. “Does that mean you’ll go, then?”

“I guess.”

“Great, I’ll wait for you downstairs.” She heads out the door, but pokes her head back through. “You should wear that one bikini you have. Matt won’t be able to keep his eyes off you.” She winks, and disappears behind the closed door.

--

“Thanks for making the lunch, Alexa. It was delicious.” Brian smiles at Alexa. The rest of us mutter our thanks, but Alexa is too busy paying attention to Brian. She hasn’t been able to keep her eyes off of him, ever since he took off his shirt, earlier.

“Umm, Lex. It’s not polite to stare.” I smirk at her.

“I am not!” She frowns at me, and throws her balled-up shirt at my face. I block it, and laugh at her attempt to hurt me. I guess she doesn’t think she’s being obvious.

“I’m gonna take a quick walk down the beach, I’ll be right back.” I say, getting up, and walking away from the group. I’ve been hit, all of a sudden, with this very uncertain feeling.
I feel like I don’t belong here, like I shouldn’t be here. What the fuck is wrong with me?

I walk along for a couple minutes, when I hear someone coming up behind me. Matt appears at my side.

“Hey, you alright?” He asks, clearly concerned. Aww, how sweet of him!

“I’m fine.” I smile.

“You sure?” He stops me, and looks into my eyes. “You can tell me if something is wrong.”

“I’m fine, Matt, but thanks for being concerned.”

“Okay, well I’m here if you ever need to talk.” He smiles, sincerely.

“Thanks. I appreciate it.” We turn around, and head back to the others.

“I thought maybe you two got lost.” Alexa says, smirking at me.

“I bet you wish we’d all get lost, so you two could be alone.” I smirk right back at her, and she shuts up. Yeah, two can play at this game. I laugh.

“What’s going on right now? Are you guys fighting?” Zach asks, slightly misinterpreting the situation.

“No, we’re just messing around.” Alexa smiles.

“Anyone ready for swimming yet?” Jimmy asks.

“Yeah.” We all agree. Alexa stands up, and we both rid ourselves of our summer dresses, revealing our bikinis underneath. All eyes are on us, taking in our practically naked bodies. Alexa winks at me, and we both take off running towards the water.

“Don’t even think you’re going to win this!” I yell at her, as we run.

“You know I will!” She yells back.

I manage to get the lead, and am first to the water. I turn back, and take a bow, as Alexa sighs in defeat.

“Fine. You win.”

“I know.” I smirk, as the guys catch up to us. I notice Matt, without his shirt, and take in the sight of his body. He’s just as sexy as I’d imagined. I wish I could remember having sex with that beautiful man, I bet it was totally worth it. I smile to myself, at my thoughts.

Matt notices me drooling over him, and smiles. Shit, I’ve been caught.

“Now, who’s staring?” Alexa laughs.

“Nothing I haven’t seen before.” I brush it off.

“Nothing you remember seeing before.” She says, and everyone laughs.
