I Will Wait For You

"That was, hands-down, the best concert I've ever been to." Alexa says, on the drive back home, after the show.

"Wait until you see some more of our shows." Brian says.

"I don't know it could get much better than that." Alexa beams at him.

"It really was something spectacular." I agree with Lex.

"We're glad you liked it." Matt grins at me.

We get back to my place and the guys decide to stay for a little while. Thank God it's the weekend, again, otherwise it would be way past my bedtime right now.

We all head inside, and make ourselves comfortable in the living room.

"I'll be right back." Brian excuses himself, and walks down the hall to the bathroom.

We are all making small talk, when Brian appears back in the room. His mood seems to have shifted, he looks nervous, almost.

"You feeling okay, man?" Matt asks him, noticing his weird behavior.

"Yeah, fine. Can I talk to you for a quick second?" Brian asks, in return.

"Just me?"

"Just you." Brian says, walking into the kitchen. Matt disappears behind him.

They're gone for a few minutes, and no one seems to want to say anything. Everyone is so tense, all of a sudden. Brian has dampened everyone's good moods.

"So..." I start to say, as Matt appears back in the room, cutting me off.

"Lakyn, will you come outside with me for a minute?" Matt asks. Brian walks back in the room, and takes a seat next to Alexa, clearly calmer than he was before having his talk with Matt. Alexa strikes up a conversation with the rest of the gang, as Matt and I walk out to my back patio.

"Is everything alright, Matt?" I ask, concerned.

"I don't know. You tell me." He stares at me, waiting for me to respond.

"I'm fine." I say, cautiously. "Are you okay?"

"I'm just going to cut right to the point here, Lakyn. Are you pregnant?"

"What? I-I don't know why you're asking me this."

"You're not denying it, which worries me..."

"No!" I practically yell. "I mean no... of course not. Why do you ask?"

"Brian said he saw a pregnancy test in the bathroom."

"Oh..." I say, relieved. "I will admit that I did take a test earlier, but it was negative. Alexa was worried, since I haven't been feeling myself, and insisted I take it."

"Brian said that the test was positive."

"That can't be. I looked at it, and so did Lex, before we left earlier." Suddenly I'm feeling really nervous. What if we read it wrong?! "I'll go back in, and check." I say, disappearing back inside the house. I practically sprint through the house, to the bathroom.

"Is everything alright?" Alexa asks. Great, now she's concerned. I hear Matt talking to her, trying to sound nonchalant.

I turn the light on, and walk in the bathroom. Sure enough, there on the counter, sits a pregnancy test... and it's definitely positive. I let out a shrill scream, and let myself fall to the ground.

No, no, no, no, no. This can't be happening. I swear it said negative earlier!

Alexa arrives by my side, and, upon seeing the state I'm in, yells to the guys that we will be right back, and closes the door behind her.

"Shit." She says, simply, taking a seat next to me on the floor.

"I don't know how this happened. It was negative earlier!"

"Please, Lake... Calm down."

"Calm down?!"

"Lakyn, I threw your pregnancy test in the trash."

"So... you mean to tell me that Brian was looking through my trash?!"

"No!"

"That's really gross. You might want to think twice about inviting him over..."

"Lakyn, Brian wasn't searching through your trash. I left that on the counter, by accident."

"You just told me you threw it away!"

"I threw Yours away!"

"I don't... Oh, fuck!" I finally register what she's trying to say. "This is your test?"

"Yes. I'm sorry I used up your other test. I just wanted to take it, just to make sure..."

"I don't give a shit about you using it. You're pregnant, Lex. Is it Brian's?"

"Yeah, of course. It has to be, he's the only guy I've slept with in the past three weeks."

"Wait. You guys slept together already?"

"Well aren't you the pot calling the kettle black? Yes, we slept together. I really like him, Lake. And I think he likes me. But a baby is not something that I think he'll like."

"Oh, honey." I wrap my arms around her, and hug her close to me. "We will figure all of this out. Brian should well know that it takes two to tango."

"I'm scared." She starts to cry into my shoulder.

"It's okay, Lex. Please don't cry." A surge of anger jolts through me, suddenly, and a realize just how much this situation pisses me off. Not because Alexa is pregnant, and not me, but because Brian went and knocked her up. I could kill that guy right about now. When I said to take care of her, this was not what I meant. At all. "We should tell him."

"I don't know if I can right now."

"Do you want me to?"

"No, I should do it." She says, wiping her tears away. I help her up from the floor, and we walk back into the living room. She stops, as we make it back to the living room. "I can do this." She whispers, and pulls away from me. "Brian, can I talk to you?"

"What's with all of the separate conversations and secrets tonight?" Zach asks, curious.

"This isn't what I think it is, is it?" Brian asks, getting up from the couch, and approaching us slowly.

"Is anyone going to answer my question?" Zach asks, again.

"Zach, not now." Matt speaks up.

"I'm pregnant." I hear the words coming out of my mouth, before I can stop them. Six astonished faces turn towards me, mouths gaping open.

Well, fuck.
