Heart of Fire, Looks of Ice

Chapter 1
*Aris’s POV*

It’s been ages since the vampires took over and I remember it like it was just yesterday.

*Flashback*

“Abi, I have practice after school are you coming back to get me or staying too?” I asked my older step sister as we were walking down the hallway to our lockers. Abi’s a senior and I’m a junior; so there’s not much of an age difference between the two of us.

“Does it really matter as long as I pick you up?” she laughed making me shrug.

“Fair point, I just want to go home and maybe have time to go hunting with dad.”

“CODE RED; EVERYONE REPORT TO THE CLOSEST CLASSROOM RIGHT NOW!” screamed over the loud speakers.

We ran to the boiler room being a part of sports helps you learn the lay out of the school. Our lockers are at this end of the school, so we were closer to it. We ran down the stairs by the boiler.

“What’s going on?” I asked.

“I don’t know, let me see if there’s anything on the website. Everything’s going to be ok, I promise,” she said smiling at me.

I nodded and sat against the wall pulling my knees up to my chest, not knowing seems like the worst part. It could be a mass murderer and we’re just sitting ducks.

“This isn’t good Aris, it’s all over the news, the vampires have taken over,” she said. “We have to get out of here, they are having task forces come around and exterminate most of the humans, and only the top elite are being kept alive.”

I started shaking, but somehow nodded. We crept back up to the stairs and cracked the door open. Gun fire is the first thing I heard and we closed the door back.

“Abi, we need to get out, I don’t want to die,” I said breathing heavy trying to stay calm, but I could feel the tears rolling down my face.

“I have an idea, the vents, we need to get a vent to the outside, I have the car keys then we can get away no problem,” she said as I nodded.

There was a vent right beside the boiler, so we could make noise and get away with it. Abi grabbed two screwdrivers and we started unscrewing the four total screws. Abi pushed me in first before following behind me. Based on my knowledge of the school if I took a left then we’d be there, where we were wasn’t that far from the outside. I could see the outside world just behind the vent door.

“Aris you need to kick out the vent.”

I did as I was told turned my body around and kept kicking till the vent dropped and crawled out. Abi was behind me and we sprinted to the corner of the building. Abi put a finger to her mouth and I nodded. We looked down and saw 3 black vans no one was outside, so if we ran to the car we’d be fine. She counted to three and we ran with all of our speed to the car.

Half way to the car I heard footsteps behind us. I knew not to look back playing sports you understand looking back makes everything worse.

“Aris here’s the keys keep going and get out of here, don’t look back I’m going to get them off your trail,” Abi said putting the keys in my hand.

“No we’re almost there!”

“Almost there and are there are two different things just go,” she said.

I could feel myself crying as I finally got to the car. I put the keys in and started it flipping in reverse and spinning tires out. I turned back seeing Abi getting dragged back to the school, I kept crying and driving where I don’t know.

*End Flashback*

“Aris are you ok?” Dex asked.

After a while of being on my own I found a group of people much like myself, except more trained then me. So they took me in and showed me things I didn’t; like how to fight and defend myself against vampires.

“Yea, just thought about Abi it’s her birthday today,” I sighed, going back to target practice

“And your birthday is in a few days the big 22,” he laughed. “There’s a mission, the head guy has for you.” He said as my arrow landed in the bullseye

“Ok thanks,” I said.

I laid my bow on the table it the room and retied my long blonde hair back, before going out of the ‘room’ and deeper into the cave. We have multiple hide outs and constantly change to not be found. There mostly caves and places vampires aren’t going to find us. There’s also a leader that gives us missions, so we know what we’re up against and where to highjack supplies.

“Ahh there you are Aris, I have a very special mission for you,” Damon smirked, he’s our leader.

He’s the oldest being 28 in our group and just took leadership of everyone. I stay away from him along with everyone else; I refuse to have anyone taken from me again.

“What is it Damon?”

“You are going to break into the head palace and find out exactly what their bloodline traits are and weakness’s, so we can take them down,” he said.

“Are you crazy?” I yelled.

“No, you are the stealthiest of the group along with the fastest and most intelligence. Not to mention amazing with a bow and arrow,” he said.

“Obviously, because you had so many errors in that sentence,” I smirked.

He glared at me before pulling out maps from a backpack he came over and handed them to me.

“These are the blueprints of the palace; study them you leave tomorrow night.”
