Rugged and rich

Anastasia Smith was a typical spoiled, rich, brat. She had never worked a day in her life and never intended to. Her family’s poor butler, Manuel, had to put up with the negative comments she spat out of her mouth. What she didn’t know was Manuel knew her father, the one she had never met. When she finds herself staying at his place, she realizes not everything is a cake walk. Can she take the heat? Or will she retreat back to her regular life?


He sat alone, his mind wandering back to her. She had picked up her belongings and left without one word. Where did he go wrong? Sure they weren’t married, and her family wasn’t the most approving, but didn’t she overlook that? At one time the words even left her mouth, love was all that mattered, but why did it suddenly change?

She even moved in with him, despite her family’s estate, she could have benefited more from that, yet she chose him. Whatever made the switch flip and had her gone in a second still puzzled him, was he too clingy? Maybe he didn’t do enough for her, who knew?

Deep breaths left his mouth, his heart ached and his eyes stung. Another girl laid upstairs in his bed, one he met years later after the first. Jeannie already had moved on, he thought. That name belonging to his first true love, his only. Marilyn was now unconscious upstairs in her fiancé’s bed, not acknowledging his discomfort that night.

His fingers threaded through his disheveled hair, he needed a shower, but was too exhausted for it. He was tired, emotionally, physically, and mentally. Was he really going to let Jeannie cloud his mind every night until him and Marilyn were married? What if it didn’t even stop after that?

Regardless of how his reaction or Marilyn’s would be, he had a piece of Jeannie coming back to him, sooner than he would expect. This little piece was just as feisty and enthusiastic as her, but what he didn’t realize was that that tiny part of his past lover was also a part of him too, his daughter.

The one that got away wasn’t returning, but something maybe even better, a blessing in disguise you could say, but neither knew that when they bounded upon each other.
Not satisfied with his thinking, he walked up his carpeted stairs, feeling the soft cushion under his bare feet. Soon enough he made his way to where his fiancé was, only to lay next to her wide awake, continuing his thoughts.
