Sweet Things (Rewrite)

Chapter One

Third Person

Slumped over her desk, her face mere inches from her keyboard; Hannah slept, snoring softly having fallen asleep in the early
hour of the morning while trying to finish some last minute homework for her English class.

She awoke with a start, when her father knocked on her bedroom door from the other side, calling out her name.

“Hannah, wake up!” He called through the thick wooden door “You’re going to be late, come on!”

Hannah sat upright, slowly, wiping around her mouth.

“I’m up!” She called back through a yawn while rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

When she heard her father chuckle and walk away from her bedroom door, she started to let her eyes slip shut again, but she
caught a glimpse of the time on her clock, flashing at her and she jumped into action, knowing that she only had minutes before
she had to leave.

She hurried around her bedroom, stripping out of yesterday’s clothes and grabbing a fresh outfit for today. She tied her hair up on
top of her head and jumped under the spray of the shower without giving the water a chance to heat up first. Washed in less than
sixty seconds, she jumped right back out and dried off, got dressed, grabbed her messenger bag and sprinted down the stairs.

“Morning, Dad.” She greeted her father as she ran into the kitchen.

“Good morning, Princess.” George smiled at his daughter over the morning paper “What’s on the agenda for today?” He asked,
watching her toss bottled water and snacks into her bag.

“The usual,” She shrugged “Spend the day in hell before I come home to an empty house and feast on pizza all night before
crashing in front of the TV,” George raised his eyebrows at her statement and sighed, making her laugh “It’s always the same
when you’re gone,” She added.

“I’ll be back on Sunday,” He reminded her as she rushed past him “But you have all of my details if you need to get a hold of me,
right?”

“Yeah,” Hannah nodded, pulling on her shoes “I’ve even got a copy of your itinerary so I know where you’re going to be all day
every day,” She went back to her father, kissed him on the cheek and swiped a slice of toast from his plate “Gotta go,”

Hannah

With my beloved car in the shop for a few more days, I had to walk to school. Normally, I wouldn’t have been in such a rush to
leave the house if I’d woken up as late as I had this morning, but walking to school in the morning takes significantly longer than it
does to drive.

I could have called my older cousin, Erin, for a ride but I didn’t exactly want to burden her with my existence more than I already
did on a day-to-day basis, so… I was left with walking.

My messenger bag bounced against my thigh with every step that I took, and I slipped my earbuds into my ears before selecting
‘shuffle all’ in the music app on my phone before sliding the device back into my pocket so that I could walk to school in peace.

I made it by three bus stops full of kids from school and remained unbothered, but not exactly unnoticed. I was just a couple of
blocks away from school when I felt someone tap my shoulder, and I stopped walking.

“What?” I asked, pulling my earbuds from my ears and turning around to see who’d decided to bother me on the last leg of my
journey, and came face to face with Jimmy Sullivan – the tallest, craziest looking kid in all of Huntington High.

“Aren’t you riding the bus?” He asked, eyebrows tugging together.

“No,” I answered bluntly, turning away from him again and continuing to walk. I was about to pop my earbuds back into my ears
when Jimmy came jobbing up beside me.

“Well, in that case, I’m walking with you.”

“I made it this far on my own,” I pointed out “I don’t exactly want the company.”

“Doesn’t matter to me,” He shrugged, looking down at me with a smug smile on his face “I just don’t want to ride the bus, either.
The difference is that I want the company.”

After my slightly uncomfortable walk to school with Jimmy, he finally let me go off on my own while he ran off to hang out with his
friends before first period. I’ll admit that they’re not exactly a hard group of guys to look at and they seem pretty cool, but they don’t
exactly know that I exist.

First period flew in, art, my favourite subject next to music, but second period was a drag. English Lit. Gross. I got in shit for falling
asleep in class and not turning in the essay that I’d fallen asleep finishing last night because I’d been in such a rush this morning I’d
forgotten to actually print the freakin’ thing out.

Later in the morning, I had a free period and I knew that Erin did, too, and she would be where we always hung out during free
periods. I quickly made my way up to the library and over into the very back corner where I found Erin, sitting cross-legged on the
floor, flicking her way through seven books at the same time, using just her mind to turn the pages.

“You know…” I spoke, startling her a little “You shouldn’t do that where people could easily see you,” I dropped down to the floor
and copied her position “Or at all, really. Yeah, I like the sound of that much better.”

“Oh come on, Hannah.” She teased, a huge smile on her face “It’s fun,”

“I disagree,” I countered, pulling my sketch book, a juice pouch and chocolate chip cookies out of my bag/

“You’ve gotta be the only senior in the world who still drinks juice pouches,” She laughed, and I shot her a look while stabbing my
straw into the pouch and brought it to my mouth, drinking the whole thing at once “No wonder people think you’re weird,” She
laughed a little harder, but stopped almost as soon as she realised what she had said “Fuck, I didn’t mean-“

“It’s fine,” I cut her off bluntly, pressing my lips tightly together while flipping open my sketch book “I know what you meant,”

She wasn’t exactly wrong, though. I’m Huntington High’s ‘weird chick’, I’m an easy target and someone always has a snide
comment to make under their breath whenever I walk by. Really, though, I’m not all that different from everyone else… well, except
for the fact that I'm a witch.

Notes

Alright you amazing people! This story was such a huge hit the first time around, so my amazing co-writer elovebakervengeance2 and I decided to re-write this story since we had to move over to new accounts. We've taken it as a sign to have a fresh start and a couple of our favourite stories are going to be re-written!

We hope that you enjoy this story all over again, and maybe even more as before!

(I know this is pretty much the same chapter as the last time around, but bare with us until we really get this thing rolling!)
