Escaping this Nightmare

Lost

♡BRIAN'S POV♡

My stomach dropped and I thought I was going to throw up. Lola was gone? Had I really upset her that much? My words had been harsh but I'd never thought she would do a runner; she was too sensible.

"I fucking hate you," El screamed at me, with tears streaming down her enraged face. She was shivering violently, her only protection from the cold being a thin cardigan. I shrugged out of my leather jacket that I had put on earlier and moved to put it on her. She flinched away from me. I sighed; I guess I deserved that. I turned and gave the jacket to Matt.

"Put that on her when she's calmed down." I said blandly, then I strode off away from the hospital.

"Oh just fucking walk away then! Don't bother helping us, you absolute fucking dick!" El was starting to sound hysterical, as she shouted after me, her hands twisting violently through her brown hair.

I spun round and walked back towards her.

"I didn't ask for any of this," I spoke in a dead voice, as cold as the still night air around us. "I didn't ask to be burdened with a runaway and a psychotic chick. So stop getting on at me!"

This time when I went to leave the hospital grounds, I wasn't stopped.

When I got out of sight of Matt and El, I stopped and bent down, my hands on my knees. I took a few deep breaths in and out and steeled myself. I straightened up and went out into the street to hail a taxi.

After five minutes a taxi rolled up to the pavement and halted. I got in and sat quietly, collecting my thoughts.

"Are you alright there, son?" the taxi driver asked me from the front. He was wrinkled and withered but had kind eyes. I nodded.

"Sir, would you mind telling me where you would go in Glasgow if you wanted to blow off some steam?" I questioned him politely. His demeanour warranted respect so I smiled in what I hoped seemed like a friendly way. It was difficult to look innocent when you were in a metal band and covered in tattoos.

He seemed to like me though as he scrunched his weathered face and said, "Mm. I would go to the pub and down a couple of pints but a younger lad like you might be more interested in a club of some sort?"

I huffed in frustration. "No, that's not it. Anywhere more tame?"

"In the city centre? No, son." He coughed loudly then asked, "You from America? Your accent sounds it."

"California, sir." I replied, letting a bit of pride seep into my voice.

"Excellent place! You must find Scotland a bit dreich compared to it though, eh?" he asked, his merry eyes twinkling.

I decided to bypass the Scottish slang completely. "Um, something like that. It's a beautiful country but I do miss home..." I trailed off as a thought suddenly occurred to me.

"Actually, sir could you please take me to the train station. The one by George Square I think." I remembered Zacky saying something about George Square when we first arrived in Glasgow.

"Certainly young lad. Train station, here we come," he sang as he pulled away from the the curb.

I thanked him then sat back. El could think whatever she wanted about me: that I was a good for nothing ditcher, but I would prove her wrong. I stared out of the window, watching cars pass us and my thoughts wandered to Lola. If she was feeling scared and uncertain about me, then I was playing a hunch that she would go back to what she had always known and been comforted by: her home. I didn't know her well, in fact I didn't know her at all but in a way I felt responsible for her safety. I didn't want her getting hurt because I behaved like an ass towards her.

The taxi ride didn't take long and when we reached George Square, we got stuck in traffic as all of the cars were gridlocked around the square. I could see the train station from where we were stopped, so I thanked my driver profusely and handed him a wad of notes before leaping out of the car and running to the station. My teeth chattered; I was only wearing a thin black T-shirt since I gave my jacket away. My fucking favourite jacket, I might add.

I sprinted into the station and looked around me wildly, spinning in all directions, trying to spot Lola's blonde tresses.
The station was practically empty, with only a couple of people seated or checking their train times. I noticed there was only one train in the station so I rushed towards it frantically. I was about to scale the ticket barrier when a firm hand gripped my shirt and pulled me back.

"Buy a ticket or get out, mate," a wheezing voice told me.

I turned and looked at the fat ticket guy that had stopped me. He stepped back and I'm sure it was because he could read my facial expression and they read something like "Are you fucking serious?!"

"Where do you buy tickets?" I asked him quickly, deciding to bite my tongue for the moment.

Agonisingly slowly, he pointed out the ticket machine and I ran towards it. It took me two minutes and £80 to get a ticket. Cursing the price of public travel in Scotland, I bolted back to the barrier and used my ridiculously expensive ticket to get through. I slowed down to a jog when I neared the train, before getting in it and wincing at the smell. Scotland really needed to improve their travel services.

I made my way down the train aisle, peering at everyone in their seats. I got to the last carriage and was starting to feel desperate when I spotted a blonde cutie wearing an Avenged Sevenfold top. Bingo.

I sauntered lazily up to her and she didn't look up at me until I was practically on top of her.

"Is this seat taken?" I asked in a really bad Glasgow accent, pointing to the empty seat beside her.

She jumped in fright then when she saw me peering down at her she opened her mouth to scream. I shot out my hand and clamped it down on her mouth to muffle it.

"Bit jumpy are we?" I asked her, teasing.

"Ho-how did you f-find me?" she stammered once I had removed my hand from her face.

I shrugged nonchalantly and moved across her to sit down, deliberately lingering when my crotch was facing her. She turned away, trying to hide her rosy red blush from me. I chuckled under my breath and jumped into my seat.

"I guess fate just really wanted me to find you," I continued teasing her, loving the way she bit her lip when she looked at me, but hating the fact that I realised I had missed looking at her beautiful face. When I looked at it now, I wondered how I had managed the last hour without her. That scared me like fuck. I was getting in too deep, too fast.

Desperate to escape the carriage after I remembered what this girl did to me, I stood up and announced to the whole carriage "Frosty reception. Nice meeting you all but I'd best be off."

I gave a little bow but just as I did, I was jolted back. I frowned confused, but then saw the station moving outside. Shit, we were going already?

A hunched old lady from across the carriage gave me a toothy leer and pointed back at my seat. " Better make yourself comfortable, boy. Looks like you're coming with us, like it or not."

Wow who knew he'd end up finding her on the train. It certainly is fate. I hope once they sit on the train together for a while, they can talk things out and get things situated and calmed down.
