Snitch

Get Out of Here

Lt. Michealson sits down in front of me, the old metal chair groaning. His eyes are soft and a smile threatens the corners of his mouth.

“It’s nice to visit you with good news for once.”

Michealson slides a folder toward me. Inside, is a picture: a smiling man, red hair, freckles, green eyes: Aaron Brells. My heart thuds against my chest, remembering how much we once loved each other.

A few minutes later, my lawyer, Marissa Harrison, breezes in. She sits next to me, snapping her black leather briefcase open.

“So, the deal was that if you give us the information we want, we take two felony drug charges off your record. All that’s left is for you to accept the deal.” Marissa hands me a pen. “Your record will be cleared.”

Ratting out my street boyfriend and his gang wasn’t an easy thing to do, but in the end it paid off. I sign everything and push the papers back toward Marissa.

“You’ll be brought over for court at two tomorrow,” she says. “The judge will consider everything, the state will make their case and we should be in the clear.”

“Thanks. I’d like to get out of here.” I draw my knees to my chest, resting my chin on them.

Michealson nearly breaks my hand when he shakes it. Marissa hugs me. A jailer returns me to my cell. Sinking onto my bed, I rub my face. I’m going to be a free man soon.
