No More Lies, No More Pain. [Re-do]

Brian and I stared at each other for what felt like hours, reality set in when Candy snapped her fingers several times in front of Brian’s face. “Syn? Syn! Who the hell is this?” She asked him with a slight attitude, motioning her hand towards me.

“Cherry, you need to leave.” Brian demanded, never taking his eyes off of me.

“It’s not Cherry! It’s Candy. And why do I ha-“ She complained before Brian cut her off.

“I said you need to leave. Now.” He said a bit more firm, taking his eyes off of me to lock them with hers to let her know that he was serious. It scared her, and I know this because she stepped back when he looked at her.

She then looked at me and I couldn’t help but smirk at her. It amused me that Brian was kicking her out, and it kind of turned me on, but I couldn’t let either one of them know that. She then looked at Brian. “Call me later.” She said before giving him a quick peck to the lips, which Brian didn’t return, before staring me down as she walked away.

Brian stared at me as I stared at Candy as she made her way to her car. I then looked back at Brian with an eyebrow raised. “Friend of yours?”

He shook his head slightly. “More like a cheap one night stand.”

I nod once. “Ah. I see.”

Brian then heard Beatrix make a noise from her car seat and looked down at her. The expression on his face stayed still, but his eyes said it all. He then knelt down and locked eyes with Beatrix, and she locked her eyes with his. A smile then appeared on Brian’s face as he gently reached in to unbuckle her belt and pick her up. Beatrix giggled as he lifts her up and rests her head on his shoulder. “Wow.” He whispered as tears started to run down his face.

I smiled at them. “Brian, this is your daughter. Her name is Beatrix.”

“Beatrix.” He said. “Such a beautiful name, for such a beautiful girl.”

Beatrix then moves back a bit to look at her father. Bea reaches out and touches random parts of his face and Brian chuckles. “She’s been waiting for you.” I said quietly.

Brian then looks at me and steps aside. “Come in, we need to talk.”

My breath hitched once more before I picked up the car seat and slowly made my way into what used to be our house.

Brian closed the door behind him quietly. As I walked further and further into the house, I noticed that it looked the same as when I left, only cleaner. Plus, the pictures of Brian and I are gone. I would be lying if I said that didn't break my heart a little, actually I died a little inside, but once again, I chose to put on a straight face as we made our way into the living room.


Brian and I didn’t talk right away; instead, we played with Beatrix for a few hours until she got tired. When she started to rub her eyes, I scooted closer to get her and put her back in the car seat. But then Brian looks at me with a small smile. “No, it’s okay. She can rest in my room for now.”

He then takes Bea upstairs to put her to sleep in his room. While he was there, I sat in the living room, feeling a mess. Now Brian and I are actually going to be alone. Bea won’t be able to distract us anymore. I just wondered what exactly he was going to say, and what he was going to do.

My heart was already beating out of my chest, and when I heard Brian’s heavy footsteps slowly coming down the stairs, I was at the borderline of a heart attack. He stopped at the entry of the living room and leaned back against the wall. I never turned to look at him, but I could feel his eyes burning holes in my head.

“You hungry? Or thirsty?” He finally asked.

I shook my head slightly, still refusing to look at him. “No thank you.” I sighed, and I could feel a tightening in my chest. My feet started to bounce my leg up and down and my hands became sweaty. “Uh, actually, if you could get me some water, that would be great.” I said nervously. He then nodded at me and quickly went to the kitchen and came back with a bottle of water.

He then sat down next to me and handed me the water, which I took away a little too anxiously. I chugged down half of the bottle, but I choked a little when he started to rub my back.

“Evelyn, are you okay?” He asked.

Gasping for air, I finally shook my head. “No. No I’m not.” I then stood up and started pacing back and forth in the living room. “This whole thing is just so messed up, I can’t even explain.” I then looked at him and he just sat there, looking down at the ground. “Brian,” at the sound of his name, he looks up at me, locking his eyes with mine. I could see the hurt I made him feel, and it was tearing me apart. “Words cannot express how sorry I am.” I then got down on both knees in front of him and held his hands in mine, our eyes never disconnecting from each other. “I am so sorry that I did this to you. I caused more pain to you than anything. But you also have to understand that I wasn’t in a good place when we last saw each other. You ignored me for two weeks, and when I saw you in our room with Michelle… that tore me apart. I will admit that I was wrong to leave you the way that I did, but you had some fault in this too.”

Brian then sighed and gripped my hands a little tighter. “I know that I did you wrong, but Evelyn, you kidnapped my daughter. You took her away from me, and I did nothing to deserve that. I know that you saw something completely different happen between Michelle and I, but Evelyn I promise you that nothing like that happened. I swear that on everything I have. It was just a really big misunderstanding.”

I nod once. “I know that now. And as much as I want to, I can’t change all the things I did wrong in the past. I am here now, and I want us to have a clean slate.”

“I would love that. More than anything.” He smiles at me and then gently tugs on my hands to motion that he wants me to sit on his lap. “So, may I ask, when did you get into town?”

I then sit on his lap and smile a little as he places his hand comfortably on my thigh. “Three days ago. We’ve been staying with a friend, and it took the entire three days to build up the courage to come see you.”

“Hm.” He said with a slight nod. “Which friend?”

“Austin Carlile.” I said with slight hesitation.

“Oh.” He nodded. For a moment, it was awkward silence until his hand started slowly rubbing up and down my leg. “I’m glad he’s taken care of you two for the past three days. But what about staying here?”

I smiled at him before taking his hand in mine. “I would love to, but if we need a clean slate, I think it might take some time before I move back in. So, I think I’m going to stay with Austin for a little while until I can get my own place. But, I do want us to start over. Maybe take things a little slower this time.”

He sighed, but then nodded with a small smile. “Okay. As long as Beatrix can stay with me for a little while. I would like quality time with my daughter.”

I nodded in agreement. “She can stay with you as long as you would like her to. I want nothing more than for you two to have a great relationship.” I smiled and then kissed his cheek. When I pulled back, our foreheads were still touching. I wanted so badly to kiss him, but if we want to start over, I have to hold back.

“Stay with me tonight. Please?” Brian whispered.

My heart skipped a few beats as I looked from his thin lips, to his chocolate brown eyes as I scooted closer to him. “Okay.” I whispered back.
