Hide and Seek

Alpha Male

Weekends were always slow on campus. Most of the students would either go home, or take their time to study or engage in some sort of sport.
As Victoria strolled around one of the campus park, she didn’t see as many people as she was used to see, nor did she see Zacky, which was something rather unusual.
She sat on a bench and crossed her legs, one hand holding her hair from the strong wind. She watched a girl and a boy on the other side of the street. They obviously weren’t dating, but the guy was certainly hitting on her.
A small smile formed on her lips. She liked to watch people, to hear their conversations, learning things about strangers without them realizing she was there. She didn’t mean to be rude; it was just her inner producer talking. She always preferred to stay in the background.
Her thoughts drifted as she watched them and, unconsciously, Zacky came into his mind. She had mixed feelings about him. One side of her liked him a lot; he was always so entertaining and a really good friend. He was good looking too; Victoria knew how some girls looked at her when they were together, like they wanted to be in her shoes.
Then there was the other side of her that was constantly being brought up by Emily. The side that thought that was something weird about him, the side that knew that Zacky was hiding something when he avoided any sort of conversation that was about him. What was he hiding?

Victoria felt a hand resting on her shoulder and almost shot up from the bench.
“Are you okay?” Emily asked. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

Zacky always enjoyed walking around the campus during the night, especially on a cold night like this, when there wasn’t a single soul outside.
He whistled as he entered the building, keys jiggling on his hand and walking the partially lit corridor once again. He looked at both sides before opening the door.
Inside the place was still a mess and, as he watched the woman’s pale face staring back at him with lifeless eyes, he couldn’t help but smile. Any other person would be shocked by the scene in front of him, but he didn’t. He actually found it quite amusing. Zacky closed the door silently and proceeded with his task; getting rid of all the evidences that would point towards him.

By the time he reached his car, there were only a few hours left until dawn. He placed the big pile of exams on the passenger seat and drove back home. He just needed to make a quick stop before.
After a twenty minute drive, Zacky stopped at a gas station, the ‘open twenty four hour’ sign flashing as he got out of his car.
He slowly placed his leather gloves as he stared at the young man with dark blonde hair that was working the night shift.
The door bell rang once Zacky opened the door and rang again once it closed. He went through the shelves, his eyes paying more attention to the guy behind the counter than its content.
After a few minutes he placed a pack o smokes on the counter.

“Hi…” Zacky glanced at the ‘hello my name is’ sticker “…Rob. Could you help me with my car?”

Rob narrowed his eyes, but walked out of the counter and headed towards the door, Zacky following him.
“So, what’s the problem with the car?” He glanced behind him, only to be thrown onto the concrete floor with a single punch. His knuckles cracked and a sudden pain crawled from his fingers to his forearm, but he kept a smile on his face.

Zacky’s boots clicked on the floor covered with puddles. He dragged him by his jacket’s collar, while the boy groaned in pain, blood coming out of his nostrils.
“Are you mad?!” Rob got up once they reached the car. That earned him another punch in the face, making him fall against the car.
Rob tried to fight him back, but his vision was getting too blurry. Zacky hit him on the stomach, his body now leaning forward in soreness, blood dripping from his mouth. Then Zacky stopped. Rob slowly looked up and felt the grasp around his neck, forcing him to quickly stand straight.

“Now say ahh…” Zacky held him against his car with one hand, the other holding the gas hose. Rob gasped and tried to kick him, his hands attempting to push Zacky’s from his throat, but failing miserably. Zacky shook his head and shoved Rob’s against his car. Then again. And again. Until his legs started to feel wobbly and his vision slowly fading away.
He jammed the hose inside Rob’s mouth; reaching his throat and making him choke. His trembling limbs tried to reach for the hose, slowly losing the strength to push it away.
Zacky watched him with a smile on his face, head tilting sideways and wondering if he would either die drowned or poisoned by the flammable fluid.
Soon the body stopped twitching and Zacky released him from his grip, making it hit the wet floor. He went inside once again and grabbed his pack of smokes, taking the security tapes along with him. He reached his car, glancing at the body that lied next to it, and drove back home.

“So Vicky, what are your plans for thanksgiving recess?” Emily asked once they exited the dining hall.

“I’ll probably just go home.” They walked towards Emily’s dorm. Next week would be their last week before thanksgiving and, after that, Victoria would move in to a new dorm with Emily. She really looked forward to it.

“The whole week?” Emily opened the door. “You should come to Los Angeles with me for a couple of days, it would be fun.” She dropped the set of keys on her desk.

Born and raised in Albany, Oregon, Victoria had never actually been to Los Angeles before. As a matter of fact, she had never left the state of Oregon before, so coming to California had been a dream come true.

“Really? I’d love to! Are you sure your parents wouldn’t mind?” Victoria sat on Emily’s bed. She sounded excited about going to Los Angeles, but she didn’t want to bother anyone.

“My parents will love you and they always like to meet my friends.” Emily sat next to her. “It’s going to be great! Just the two of us, away from all the college stress!” She sang.
And away from Zacky.
