Chapter 1
Renae's POV
- Five Years Ago-
I was so excited to go see Breaking Benjamin in concert. I was standing next to my best friend Arin and his girlfriend Kimberly. I've known Arin since sophomore year in high school when I had just transferred from my old school due to my family moving closer to my dad's job. We had a lot in common and became best of friends. I even helped him have enough courage to ask Kimberly out and it worked! I was so happy for them.
It was Breaking Benjamin's last show and they were in California. My home state. I felt someone tap my shoulder.
"Hey Renae, are you excited that they're finally here?" Arin shouted over the loud crowd.
I smiled and nodded. "Yeah! I'm super happy and glad I get to see them live again. Especially for my baby Ben."That's right, I was dating the lead singer. I was 18 when I first met him. Now I'm 20 and we've been together for 2 years and going. Yes the 10 year age difference between us got me kind of weary but he has assured me that he's not those kind of guys that would take advantage of a young woman. I don't know what made me fall in love with him...or him falling in love with me. Since I'm not girly and what not like some girls.
The venue that Arin, Kimberly, and myself were at went dark for a bit. We heard foot steps hit the stage and the whole place started screaming. Going wild once the lights turned back on and the band was on stage. The first song they started off with was Polyamorous. All 3 of started moving along to the music and I was dancing along to the music.
As it was nearing towards the end of the set, the last song was played was So Cold. Oh how it was interesting when Ben wrote this song. We were cuddled up on the couch and watching 28 Days Later. Interesting how he used that as inspiration for a song.
Breaking Benjamin was done playing and everyone in the venue left. Arin and Kimberly decided to hang outside for a bit while I went backstage and tried to meet up with the band. The security guard name John knew me since I would always go to the shows at the venue a lot. He nodded to me and let me through. I quickly headed towards the dressing room and was stop by Chad, their drummer.
"I wouldn't go in there if I were you." He says with a stern look on his face.
I raised an eyebrow at him. "Why not? hiding something?" I laughed and put my hand on the door knob. As I turned it and opened the door, I hear Chad mutter an 'I told you so.' What I saw made my world come crashing down.
On the couch, I see Ben with a beer bottle in his hand. And a cute petite blonde...who was on his lap riding him. I stood there frozen for a second. Ben then looked over and his eyes widened. I shook my head and ran away from the door quickly heading outside. I see Arin and his girlfriend right next to Arin's car. I ran towards their direction. They see me and Arin stops talking. He opens his arms wide and I go to him. I cried into his shirt.
"What's wrong Ren?" I looked up at him and shook my head.
"Ben...a blonde...saw them...having sex..." I said in between sobs.
He sighed and shook his head. "I'm sorry you had to find that out. I had a feeling something was up with him but didn't want to say anything to make you mad at me." He says softly.
I smile a little. "I wouldn't be mad. I wish I would have known this sooner."
Kimberly walk up behind me and hugged me. We all just stood there and hugged each other. So I guess what I said was wrong. In a way, it did feel like he took advantage of me. He was just like those jerks out there. Preying on the young women and convincing them that they're the one for him when that wasn't true. Boy was I stupid.
-Present Day-
It's been 5 years since that incident had transpired. Every time I think about him or even hear his band's music, I just want to sit in the corner and curl up in a ball. I literally gave him myself...no...my life. Everything of me to him and he goes ahead and cheats on me with some hot blonde bimbo. Apparently 2 years of being with me was enough for him to say fuck it and do that stupid shit.
After I had left the venue with Arin and Kimberly, they had dropped me off at my house and that was when I decided to call Ben and leave him a short but sweet voice mail:” We're done asshole.”
He has tried calling me 10 times then sending me texts messages apologizing to me but I wasn't having it. Good riddance to him!
So here I am, turning 25 and sitting in my new apartment that I share with my new bff Emilia. Emi for short. We had met at a concert and she was visiting some relatives here in California. She loved it here so she decided to move. We had a lot in common. Almost like we were twins. We both work at a local music store a few blocks from the apartment. I was working stock while she was a sales associate.
Anyway so I'm in my room and today's my birthday. November 3rd to be exact. I sigh as I stood up off my bed and walked around my room a little bit. Suddenly Emi barges through the door making me jump a little.
“Heey baby girl, we're going out tonight!” She says waving some money in her hand. A smile slowly crept on my face. “Awesome, I hope it's not a strip club.” I joked.
Emi laughed then shook her head. “Noo missy. We're going to the club where you dance and get drunk. This is all for you bff. My treat. It is your birthday after all.” She winked then turned around and left my room to let me change.
I snorted then walked over to my closet and started rummaging through my clothes. After 5 minutes of searching, I pulled out a black tank top with black lace on the top rim of the tank, dark blue skinny jeans, and a leather jacket to wear over the tank top.
I laid them on my bed and quickly took off my sports bra and shorts since I had been out jogging this afternoon heading to the bathroom take a shower. After scrubbing and washing myself, I stepped out taking the towel that was hanging from the rack and dried my body.
Walking out of the bathroom, I went back to my room and put on a red bra and matching underwear. I took the clothes I picked out to wear off the bed and put them on as well. Walking over to my full length mirror, I started brushing my hair and blow drying it with the hair dryer that I just plugged in. All said and done, I put on some red eyeshadow and somewhat heavy eyeliner, giving myself a cat eye look. I lightly put on some lipstick that was wine red then went to go put my socks on. As I did that and was about to slide on some laced up boots, Emi walks into my room again.
“Oh wow, you look amazing girl!” She said and smiled. Emi was wearing a v-neck red blouse with black jeans and black chuck taylors. She was also wearing purple eye shadow, not to think eyeliner, and a neutral color lipstick.
I stared at her. “You too. Hmm I'm sensing someone's going to find herself a man tonight.” I winked.
She laughed and shook her head. “Yeah yeah maybe so. I have a feeling you will too. I mean you deserve a hot man right now. To get rid of all your frustrations and just ravage him.”
I laughed at that. Okay I get that I haven't got laid or dated anyone for a long time but right now, I just want to take things slow if I do find the one. I walked over to her.
“Well maybe. Let's get out of here shall we?” We both looked at each other for a minute and nodded. As we were about to leave, we both had put on earrings and matching bracelets that has black and red heart charms on them. I had on red star plugs for my gauged ears and Emi had diamond studs on her ears.We locked up the apartment and walked over to Emi's car. I opened the passenger's side and slid in. Emi walked over to the driver's side got in, buckling up before starting the car and driving off to the club.
It took a little bit of time before we finally got to the club. Emi turned off the car and hopped out. I soon followed behind. She locked up and we headed towards the entrance. The bouncer stopped us.
“Hey Ems, this the little lady?” He asked looking me over as he checked our IDs then gave them back to us. She nodded to him. “Indeed it is Jake, indeed it is.” The bouncer who I now learned's name is Jake laugh. “Awesome. Well Ms. Renae, have a wonderful birthday.” We high fived each other. “Thank you.” I smiled to him.
Emi and I began walking into the club and automatically music was already blaring in the background. It seems Emi knew exactly where to go cause then she took my hand and started dragging me through the crowd of people that were on the dance floor. We continued walking then stopped at a booth that said 'VIP Only'. As I went to go sit down, Emi stood there thinking. I looked at her with a raised eyebrow.
As I went to go sit down, Emi stood there thinking. I looked at her with a raised eyebrow. “What's up?” She shook her head. “Oh nothing. Was thinking of when the people who I invited to come join us will arrive.”
I stared at her. “Who did you invite exactly?”
She grinned. “Oh it's a surprise. You'll know once you see them.” She winked then walked off to go get our drinks from the bar. I always get a rum & coke so she would already know my favorite drink by heart. I took off my leather jacket and put my purple clutch on top of it. Looking around, I was watching everyone in the club enjoy themselves. Some more than others. It seemed I zoned out when I heard someone call my name.
