Melting The Snow

Kim’s POV

We drank our glasses and moved on to the food, eating all the little delicious surprises they had planned for me and more and more desserts appeared and I was stuffed, couldn’t eat one bite anymore.
“But there is one tray left.” Leyla pointed but also didn’t move from her position on the bed.
“Mei, go get it…” She motioned her over but Mei frowned “I’m not your freaking dog, jeezz..”
But she got up anyway…
“This is the last one, right… and it’s only for you, Kimmie” She handed the tray to me but I shook my head.
“Sorry, girls… but no.. I really.”
“Try it… come on.” Leyla urged and I rolled my eyes. “Fine, but just try.”
I lifted the tray and found 3 tickets to the Avenged concert in Germany, the only show they were playing here this year.

“OH MY GOD…. OH MY GOD!” I yelled taking the tickets and rushing over, this was exactly the surprise I was hoping for.
Having heard there was the concert, but knowing it was sold out already, but the slight hope had still been there.
“So.. surprise…” Mei said laughing at me and Leyla finally got up from the bed too.
“Did you really think, when Avenged is playing on your birthday, we would let that opportunity slip away?” Leyla asked joining the hug.
“Oh, this is the best thing ever. I can’t believe it. When does it start? Where is it again?” I looked at the tickets.
“7:30 they are opening, but guess they won’t start playing before.. what maybe 9? How far do we need to drive?” I got all excited suddenly, knowing this was true now.
“We need to drive a little, I couldn’t get us a hotel room nearer, but we still have enough time to get ready and catch up a little bit. We should leave around 5, problem is the weather doesn’t look too good, so we should be prepared to drive slowly… but 5 should be fine.” Mei said and I grinned.

“Babe, this is awesome.. I can’t say how thankful I am really.” She grinned at Leyla “And you both kept quiet so long, all the conversation on Whatt’s App, you never said a word… damn it… you two are good.”
I smiled, thinking this could only get better, even though the weather looked really cold and cloudy I don’t think anything could ruin this day anymore.

After catching up on all the stories we had missed in each other’s life, we finally prepared ourselves for the evening. This wasn’t the easiest task with 3 girls and just one bathroom…
But we managed and were ready to go… but before leaving the hotel, we quickly got our hands on the cocktails for free, Mei only without alcohol, complaining a little while Leyla and I had fun searching for the right one, with the additional alcohol in it.

At 5:30 we were finally ready to leave and the wind was cold making my eyes teary as soon as we walked from the hotel to the car.
Mei set the navigation system to the concert hall and started the car, again pulling the heat up to the highest level.
“Damn, is Germany always this cold?” Leyla complained from the backseat, rubbing her hands against each other.
“Well, not always… but its February… so…” Mei shrugged pulling into the traffic.
We talked, listened to music and the weather got worse, at some point during the drive it actually started to snow, and the further we were driving the worst it got…
“Mei, can I ask you something?” I asked and she looked annoyed at the traffic before us. The snow already staying and getting more and more each minute.
“Yeah.. what?” She asked on a sigh.
“Your tires are for winter, right?” I asked and she chuckled. “Yeah, they are don’t you worry.”
“Okay..” Suddenly the traffic stopped completely and nothing moved.
“Ahh noo.. look there is this huge traffic jam… I think there was an accident.” Mei pointed ahead, but I couldn’t look past the huge truck ahead of us.

“What time is it?” Leyla asked.
“Its 7 already… but we still got some kilometers ahead of us… damn it…” Mei cursed and tried to reset the navi system, to find another way.
“I will drive down the next exit and we will find another way.” Mei said and pulled to the right line towards the next exit lane.
“Do you really think, we will find the way then? It’s getting dark and the snow is getting worse.” I asked a little worried but she was already pulling over.
“We got the system, telling us where to go.. and Leyla got the main route printed, we should be good to go.” Mei said and I shrugged fine.
We would miss the opening act, but as long as we would still be there when Avenged started playing, I’m fine… everything is fine.

Another hour later, Mei looked worried at the darkened road, the snow making it hard to drive and at some point we were even stuck…
“Mei, I think we are not right anymore…” Leyla looked at her route and sounded a little uncertain turning the page round and round.
“Well… my gas is pretty low too, we should better find a gas station soon or…” Mei bite her bottom lip and I swallowed… oh no… this was becoming worse…
“I don’t even see any houses or a real street here, I think we took the wrong route a long freaking time ago.” Leyla said and I saw Mei turn around… “What you mean long time ago? Shouldn’t you be paying attention to that?”
“Girl’s, calm down… Let’s get out and look for any signs of where we are, it’s okay, we can’t be that far away, right?” I asked and saw the uncertainty in their eyes, oh shit… this was getting from best birthday ever to worst birthday ever within a split second.

“Fine, let me find a parking lot or something…” Mei said and then frowned “Shit, we are stuck again… I can’t get.. out…” She was trying to get the car to moving, but it was only moving a little inch, before it was sliding backwards.
“Oh no… hell…” She said and I touched her shoulder “Okay, just stop the engine, and we walk outside, trying to see where we are… then we try to find a house or something… let me get my phone, maybe we can even call-” I pulled my phone out… shit no signal.
“I don’t have service.”
“Me neither”
“Same here.” Mei and Leyla looked at their phones with a frown.
Oh hell no… we were stuck in nowhere, with no signal and nearly no gas… in the dark… the snow was falling more and more, which wasn’t any helpful at all and only getting out of the car, I had to pull my jacket closer and was already freezing, how much longer could we stay here like that and the concert would start only in a couple of minutes… How could have everything gone so wrong?

“Are you sure you brought enough winter clothes, Leyla?” I asked in a disguised ironic mode while we walked through the dark streets of some part of Germany I had no idea that exists. Leyla was walking really funny with that great amount of clothes on her.

“Yeah, I’m wearing three coats, two pants, two socks and my super-hot boots. Oh, and my Avenged shirt, of course.” Yep, pretty much disguised, she didn’t even notice I was being ironic. Mei looked behind her shoulder to us, following her in a line through the snow path, and chuckled to me.

“We can see that, veeery clearly.” I let out some giggles too and Mei laughed louder in response, causing Leyla to sigh heavy.

“Got it. You’re both mocking the hot-country girl. That’s how you thank me for being here on your birthday, huh?” Leyla passed through me with heavy steps to support her extra clothes weight. I couldn’t stop laughing now.

“Oh c’mon, it’s so funny! You should take a look at yourself!” Leyla looked back at me with anger shooting on her eyes and reached Mei, leaving me behind a little, still chuckling. Guess she didn’t take that the right way, did she?

“Where’s this fucking gas station? We’re walking on this endless dark street for too long now, and still no cellphone signals neither gas stations, neither signs of living people besides us. I wasn’t planning to die before meeting Brian personally, you know? So, please Mei, tell me we are reaching somewhere.” I heard Leyla complaining up to Mei and looked at my watch. Damn, we lost too much time here, the concert is already happening…

“I wish I could say that… But trust me, we’re finding something… soon. I guess…” Mei answered and I could sense unsureness in her voice. And now she got me really worried.

I didn’t wanna die on my birthday and before I could meet Matt personally too… That’s just too much bad luck for a bunch of simple girls.

Okay, of course I know we won’t die today but… am I seriously missing my best birthday gift? Fucking hell…

“Maybe we should just get back to the car and… try to pull it out of the snow. We’re not getting anywhere here and I’m freaking freezing.” Leyla wouldn’t stop complaining and make this even worse, would she? She was definitely pissing me off now…

“What are you talking about? We walked more than two miles, we will never get in time not even for Unholy Confessions. We gotta keep going.” I had to answer, making sure I didn’t really agree with her stupid idea. I was the birthday girl here, they would have to endure my leading today. “What if we… start asking for a lift?”

“WHAT?” Leyla laughed and Mei ignored that conversation that had serious chances of turning into an ugly fight between friends in minutes if she kept acting like that. “Do you really wanna be the next victim of some kind of crazy rapist on your freaking birthday? For a wise woman, this wasn’t anything like clever. At all, Kim!”

“Oh, so show me a better idea than just simply giving up on MY GIFT!! You girls can give up, but I WON’T, I’m gonna see Matt singing for me today not even if I have to ask to a rapi…”

“Look!! Girls!!! Stop arguing and look ahead, I see something in there!” Mei interrupted me and I squinted my eyes to her view.
“What is it?”
“Let’s find out..”
