Chapter 7

I walked out of my room and down the stairs over hearing Megan tell the guys what happened, "Carson lay on the floor, his throat was cut open..." I squeezed my eyes closed, shutting everything out. I took a deep breath and locked everything inside of me. I showed no emotion before I saw Bryan and I'm going to do it now.
I wiped the tears and mascara from my face and walked into the kitchen, I finished putting the food away and began making lunch. Everyone was quiet, I now regret ever telling Megan, especially in front of everyone. I ignored everyone but the quietness was driving me insane.
"Why is everyone so quiet, it's over. Stop it." I said, stubbornly. I was probably going to go the police about Bryan but I wasn't ready yet.
"Devon, we have to go to the police." Megan said.
I rolled my eyes, "Fine, then go to the police. I was going to go tomorrow."
"Why tomorrow."
"Because I'll be out and about tomorrow. Might as well do it tomorrow." I began technically throwing pots and pans around letting my anger get the better part of me. I was angry because I let everyone see the bad side of me. The side I didn't want anyone to see.
I had turned on the stove earlier and placed a pot of boiling water on it. I wasn't paying attention and burner the back of my hand on the hot part of the pot.
I hissed in pain and held my hand to my chest, "Shit."
Matt was instantly at my side and wetting a washcloth with cold water and placing it gently on my hand. I flinched at his touch and tried to relax.
"Ouch." I mumbled, annoyed with myself. I seriously needed to calm down.
"There," Matt practically cooed, rubbing his thumb across the back of my hand. I looked up at him and gave him a small smile.
"Thank you." I whispered, gently pulling my hand away.
"You're welcome." He said just as quietly.
"Okay, let's go Megan." i sighed, picking up my purse and walking towards the door.
"Oh! Okay, let me get my shoes!" She exclaimed, surprised.

The drive to the police department seemed really long. I know it was only a few minutes but I was dreading the fact that I had to talk about Bryan. I really wasn't looking forward to that.
I laid my head against the window and looked at the trees we passed. So free and alive, those trees.
"It's going to be okay," Megan whispered, grabbing my hand. I let her hold it the rest of the way to the building of Hell.

"So, Ms. Barrett, you said that he showed up outside of the store at your Jeep, correct?" The officer asked for the fifth time.
I rolled my eyes, hoping he would see how annoyed I was, "I said yes the first five times."
Megan rubbed my back trying to calm me down...or to warn me.
"Okay, you said he touched you hips?" He asked.
"Yes."
"He spoke to you?"
"Yes."
"Well," the officer began, "I hate to say this to you but Bryan Galloway died in jail two months ago, he was murdered."
I choked on the water the officer had given to me, "What?!" I exclaimed, I rubbed my eyes irritated, "I saw him, I'm not lying."
"I'm not saying you didn't see him. I'm saying that you saw someone who looked like him. Maybe a friend of his?" The officer looked tired and annoyed. Probably thinking that I was
crazy.
I shook my head, "I know who I saw."

"Well, that wasn't helpful." I sighed, looking out the window again on the way home.
Megan sighed as well, "Yeah, not really."
I sat up and looked at her in the drivers seat, "You don't believe me either do you?" I asked, surprised.
Megan furrowed her brows, "Of course I do, why would you think that I don;t believe you?"
"Because you're quiet, you aren't speaking your mind. You don't believe me."
Megan sighed, "Devon, I believe you believe you saw what you saw."
I rolled my eyes, "Why would I lie about this?" I asked.
"I'm not saying you're lying, I'm saying that maybe you're stressed out and saw the things that made you stressed out."
The house wa loud when we got home, Matt and Jimmy were playing Call Of Duty on our large T.V. screen in our living room. Johnny and Zacky were drinking beers on the couch watching them and Brian sat across from them in the lazy boy also drinking.
They all looked up when we entered the room and smiled shyly, "Hey guys." Johnny smiled and hugged Megan tightly.
"Hey." Megan mumbled, walking passed everyone and up the stairs to her room.
They all looked at me, questioning, I didn't say anything. I simply took out my utensils and began working on the project I needed to finish.
