Two Vibrant Hearts

Chapter Fourty-Six

“Jessi, why are you getting dressed up?” Emma questioned as she walked in on me changing. I looked down at my outfit and then back at her.

“How are my acid jeans and a v-neck considered being dressed up?” I persisted, giving her an odd look.

“You only wear your acid wash jeans if you’re trying to impress someone.” Emma pointed out. I sighed and went to the bathroom to put on my makeup.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I bluffed, taking extra time on my eyeliner. Emma was watching me, yet again, from the doorway, smirking at me.

“You know exactly what I’m talking about.” Emma commented. I let out a breath and gave her a sullen look as I pulled out my black beanie.

Okay, so maybe I’m hanging out with Matt today with the guys.” I admitted, looking down. Emma smirked more and I stuck my tongue out at her. “Hey, I just got things patched up with him again. I need to look my best.”

“So you patched things up, but does that mean that you guys are back together?” Emma asked quizzically. I left the bathroom and began putting my phone and wallet in my pockets before putting my shoes on. Emma began getting dressed as well, so I assumed she was heading along.

“Are you gonna come with?” I asked. She nodded and I returned it before turning my attention back to my laces. “And since there was some shit about to happen in the bedroom after I woke up, I think it’s safe to say we’re back together.”

“Shit was happening?” Emma exclaimed, her eyes going big.

“Shit was happening.” I repeated. Emma smirked and I pursed my lips. “Well, shit was going to happen before Jimmy had to come cock-block us due to my wonderful soon-to-be step-brother.”

“Oh yeah, dude. He was freaking the fuck out downstairs while you were unconscious.” Emma commented.

“Really? How so?” I inquired.

“Like he was just pacing and saying things like ‘Oh God I hope she’s okay’ and ‘I shouldn’t have left my up there with her’ and ‘If he touches her I will kill him’.” Emma informed me, impersonating Zach when she so chose to. I burst out laughing and Emma smiled before rolling her eyes. “Like seriously, doesn’t he have two younger siblings or something?”

“I think so, I don't know. But if he did his mom probably took them and therefore he would have had no contact with them since the divorce,” I answered, feeling bad for Zach. I had an older brother and sister, so I couldn’t quite say that I related to his issue. But if my mom took me and my sister and left my brother for dead then I’d be pissed and upset that I would most likely never see him again. “That’s probably why he’s so protective of me.”

“I guess you’re right.” Emma stated as she slipped on her new Vans. “You ready to go?”

“Yeah. We have to go pick up the other four losers from Brian’s and then we’ll be on our way.” I replied, smiling at her. She gave me a look and I groaned. “Fine, we have to pick up three losers and your boyfriend before we can go to Matt’s.”

“That’s better.” Emma cooed. I rolled my eyes and locked the door after us before skipping down the stairs. I was in such a good mood about how everything worked out. I now have a brother who is protective, a few amazing and hilarious friends, and I just got back the boyfriend who I’ve been chasing for about five damn months. And the best of all is that they’re all in my favorite band. Life could not get much better than this.

We jumped into Emma’s car, with me behind the wheel, and sped off towards Brian’s house. Emma called the guys and told them that one was going to have to hide in her trunk, and Johnny ended up being thrown under the bus because of his height. We reached Brian’s house quickly and both of us scurried inside to check if they were ready to leave.

“Hey! It’s the girls!” Brian yelled, slurring slightly.

“My God, Bri. Are you drunk already?” I snickered. Brian rolled his eyes.

“No. I only had like two beers.” Brian informed me.

“Starting early, then?” Emma questioned, smirking at him. He returned the smirk and shrugged.

“Beer’s my primary drink.” Brian answered simply. Emma and I rolled our eyes and looked at the others, who were just small talking to each other.

“Are you guys ready to go?” I asked, excited to get to Matt’s house. I haven’t been there in awhile, and I wanted to take in all the memories of before.

“Someone excited to see Matty-Bear?” Jimmy asked. I flipped him off and he just pulled me into a hug.

“It’s been like a month since I’ve been to his house. What do you expect?” I asked them. They all shrugged but didn’t move from their standing positions in Brian’s living room. I decided to take this time to make fun of Zach’s over-protectiveness, even though I already knew the reason to it. “So Zach, I heard you were anxious while I was unconscious.”

“Don’t even get him started on that, please.” Johnny begged as everyone else groaned. I smirked and rolled my eyes, looking over at Zach. He had a guilty grin on his face and I smiled at him.

“Guys, you might as well get used to it. Zach’s not going to change.” I snickered. Jimmy grabbed my hand and folded my fingers so they were in the shape of a gun and then put them in his mouth.

“Kill me. Kill me now.” Jimmy cried jokingly. I scrunched up my mouth and pulled my hand away, which now had Jimmy spit on my fingers.

“Gah, Jimmy!” I screamed, staring in horror at my fingers. “You got spit on my hand!”

“That’s genuine Rev spit, missy. You better appreciate that shit.” Jimmy accused, pointing his finger at me.

“Let me rephrase that, then.” I stated, my voice mocking. I closed my eyes for a second before opening them widely and jumping up and down with excitement. “Holy mother fucking shit! Did The Rev just get spit on my fingers! I will never wash this hand again! Oh my God!”

“Jimmy!” Brian snapped, playfully punching Jimmy’s arm. “What did we say about breaking our fans?”

“No spitting on them?” Jimmy questioned, his voice innocent. I couldn’t help but grin widely at his comment and I pulled him into another hug.

“Jimmy, you’re my favorite.” I announce. Jimmy jumped with excitement while all the rest of the guys looked at me with baffled faces.

“Why is he your favorite!?” Zach yelled.

“That’s not fair!” Johnny cried.

“You just lost my respect, missy.” Brian sniffled, pretending to cry. I giggled and turned back to them.

“You know I love you guys all equally.” I exclaimed, rolling my eyes at them. Everyone grinned, except for Jimmy, who was pouting.

“So I’m not your favorite?” Jimmy whimpered. I chuckled and side-hugged him.

“Don’t make me choose my favorite.” I moaned. All of them laughed before Emma cleared her throat.

“Shouldn’t we get going?” Emma wondered. I nodded at her, as did everyone else. We all headed out to the car and I jumped in the driver’s seat while Emma jumped into the passenger’s seat. Jimmy, Brian, and Zach all shoved each other as they got in, and Johnny pouted as he crawled over the seats to the trunk.

“Everyone buckled?” I called as I started the car.

No.” Johnny replied. I sighed and ignored his comment before pulling out of the driveway and heading towards Matt’s house. I turned up the music and we all sang to Fall Out Boy until Matt’s house came into view. I suddenly got a sickening feeling as I looked at his house, and I couldn’t explain why. I just felt like something was there that was going to ruin everything. I tried to shake it off as I parked outside of his house, but it wouldn’t leave. No one noticed my uneasiness and all went forward towards the house. Zach pushed me to the front and I opened the door, ready to greet Matt.

“Hey M-“ We all stopped dead in our tracks. I could feel my heart literally fall out of my ass, but no words came to me. They all got caught in my throat, and the only thing I could do was let out a choke.

“Why the hell is she here?” Brian spat, staring in anger at the scene in front of us. Matt looked scared shitless, and I think his hands were about to shake. He cleared his throat and made eye contact with me for a split second before looking down, not wanting to look me in the eye.

“Well, uh, you see… Gayle and I got back together.” Matt admitted, his arm draped around Gayle’s shoulder.
