HEY! It's Like Deja Vu, A Suicidal Maniac With Nothing To Lose

Emilia’s POV

A week had passed since our first night of the tour, since we celebrated an amazing first concert and a week since I had received that text message. Since then, I had barely said a word to anyone, only really talking when I was spoken to. It had really freaked me out. I didn’t want to tell anyone about it and I just wanted to try to move on but it was hard. I’d been looking over my shoulder every minute of every day, and even becoming real jumpy every time there was a loud noise. Everyone was starting to notice. I hadn’t felt like this since I was 15 and it was scary. It was bringing up a lot of bad memories and the nightmares had even started up again.

Today was a big day. We had interview after interview, as well as a photoshoot for one of the magazines that were interviewing us. Luckily, we didn’t have a show tonight so we all decided to cram onto Avenged’s tour bus later and just watch some movies and just hang out.

“Hey, are you okay?” Roni asked, pulling me out of my thoughts.

“Hmm, what? Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?” I asked, turning my attention to her.

“Well, you’ve been brushing the same bit of hair for the last 5 minutes. Not to mention, you’ve been off all week. You haven’t really spoken a word to anyone. Are you even going to talk to me Em?”

I let out a sigh and threw my hairbrush into my bunk, lacing up my shoes. “Just drop it, Roni.”

“No Emilia. I’ve left you alone and you keep giving me the cold shoulder. I’m sick of it. What’s going on?!” She ordered.

“Nothing is going on Veronika. Why can’t you just leave it and let me be?”

She moved closer and pointed a finger at me. “I’m your best fucking friend Emilia. Your best fucking friend! I have never kept a secret from you and I’d like to think you’ve never kept any from me but obviously, that’s not that case, so why won’t you tell me? What is going on with you?”

I clenched my fists and stared at her. “I told you, nothing is going on.”

“Fine,” Roni snapped. “Don’t fucking tell me, but just know, that when you are ready to talk, I’ll be here. C’mon, we’re gonna be late.”

Without any reply, I stepped past her and left the tour bus, finding the rest of the girls standing with A7x. “Hey, are you okay?” Zacky asked, catching my attention.

I glared at him and let out a frustrated sigh. “I’m fine, why can’t any of you get that? I am fine!” I snapped, stomping off to the bus that was taking us to our interviews.

Veronika’s POV

“What’s going on with Emilia? She just snapped at Zacky,” Matt asked, looking confused.

I shrugged and looked over at the bus. “I upset her. I tried to get her to tell me what was going on and she blew up at me. I thought we didn’t keep secrets from each other but obviously, I was wrong.”

“Okay guys, we have to go. You’ll be late otherwise,” Tash spoke, changing the subject.

“What about Death Punch?” Evie asked her.

“They’re already there. Their interviews were earlier this morning.”

She nodded and we all climbed on the bus. I watched Brian take a seat next to Emilia and try to talk to her but she just shook her head, turning her attention back to the window. He let out a sigh and moved away from her, taking a seat near Jimmy and Selena.

I felt really sorry for him. He had been trying all week to get her to talk. I mean we all had but Brian was trying extra hard and I knew that he was getting more frustrated each time she gave him the cold shoulder. If she didn’t open up soon, she was going to lose him forever.

“So, how does it feel to be touring with Avenged Sevenfold and Five Finger Death Punch?” The interviewer - whose name was Lisa - asked, with a smile.

“It’s great. Definitely overwhelming at times, though,” Zara replied, giggling. “I mean, you look at us then look at A7x and 5FDP. We’re performing with bands that are some of the most popular bands in metal and rock at the moment and are used to performing in front of 100,000 people. Whereas us, we’re only used to performing in front of no more than a couple thousand.”

“Yeah, it’s definitely something we’re not used to but we’re getting there. It’s just amazing that we get to go out on such a huge stage and spread our music and message to a much larger fan base,” Emilia piped up with a smile.

“What is it like having so many people react positively to your music? I did some research on you guys earlier and noticed that a few weeks ago, you had about 3,000 subscribers on your YouTube channel and now it’s skyrocketed to almost 1 million. The same with your Facebook page.”

“Oh wow, this is the first we’re hearing of that. Wow, that’s fucking- oh crap,” I gasped, cutting myself off.

Everyone in the studio laughed before Lisa motioned for me to continue. “Sorry!” I apologised with a giggle. “But as I was saying, that’s amazing. We honestly weren’t expecting such a massive positive response. I mean we knew we’d get some positive ones but we were mainly preparing ourselves for all the negative feedback.”

“Why just the negative?” Lisa asked inquisitively.

“Well, we know the Death Punch crew personally as you know with Emilia being Jason’s daughter, so we knew what to expect with the negativity. People saying that we’re only on this tour because of her dad and that we’re receiving special treatment but in all honesty, we hate special treatment. That’s just not us. We worked our asses off to be the women we are and we wouldn’t change that for the world,” I answered.

“Exactly. We auditioned like the rest of the bands but we didn’t make the cut at first. It was between us and another band and the other band just happen to be chosen. I basically begged my father and uncles to not automatically pick us. We told them that we want to be treated just like the others, no special treatment and that’s how it went. In the end, the band had to pull out and we were asked if we wanted to join and here we are today,” Emilia spoke, looking around at us all with a smile.

Bitch is bipolar, I swear to Johnny Christ.

The interview smiled and nodded her head. “Have you guys got an EP or album out yet?”

“We have a few songs on iTunes for people to buy but I’m working extra hard to get the girls some studio time once the US leg of this tour is over. That way we can have an EP to release sometime soon. I get messages from all our fans on social media every day asking where they can get our album from. We’re working on some new material at the moment so we’ll have a lot of songs to record,” Tash spoke with a smile.

“Yeah, the toughest part of it all will be what songs to choose,” Selena piped up with a laugh.

“Well, there you have it, ladies and gentlemen, Black Widow are working on new material. Make sure to get your tickets to see them along with Avenged Sevenfold and Five Finger Death Punch. We’ll be sure to update you all on when their new music will be available. Girls, thank you so much for being here. We really appreciate it.”

“Thank you for having us Lisa. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.”

“Well, that’s all from us today here at Metal 98.7FM. Join us again tomorrow from 9am for more metal talk. I’m your host Lisa Bane and today I’m gonna leave you with ‘Freak Like Me’ by Black Widow. It has been one of the most highly requested songs this week, so here we go.”

Emilia’s POV

“Milly, where are you? You can run but you can’t hide from me,” his sinister voice roared out.

I let out a soft whimper, pushing myself further into the wall. I hated this. The tears fell down my face as I covered my mouth to stop the noise. I didn’t want to go through it again. He did it to me almost every night and every time I tried to leave, he’d threaten to kill my family. “C’mon on Milly. I know you’re here. I only want to cuddle. I’m feeling nice tonight so if you come out now, everything will be okay.”

He was lying. He always lied. I watched through the louvres of the closet door as he walked around the room, quietly listening for any moment. I let out a sniffle, instantly freezing when he stopped and looked around. He moved closer to the closet door and I inaudibly sighed. An ominous smirk appeared on his face as he squatted down and opened the door slightly. “’Ello poppet,” he slurred, before gripping me by the hair and dragging me out.

I slapped at his hands, crying from the pain. I yelled for him to let go, that it hurt but he didn’t care. He just laughed. I felt all the air leave my body as I felt sharp pain rip through my midsection. Yep, more broken ribs. Nothing, I wasn’t used to. “You, stupid little bitch,” he sneered, climbing on top of me, wrapping his hands around my neck. “This is your own damn fault. If you had just come out when I yelled for you, this wouldn’t be happening. You bring it on yourself, Emilia.”

I clawed at his hands, feeling the life slip away from me. Black dots appearing in my vision. This was it. This was how I was going to die. A victim of domestic violence. Never again would I see my father, my godfather, my uncles or any of the family that actually loved and cared about me.

At least then, it’d be over.

I jolted awake and grabbed at my neck, breathing heavily. Sweat dripped down my forehead and pooled in the hollows of my collarbones. My bottom lip quivered as tears pooled in my eyes. This one felt so real, like I was back in the small closet all over again, waiting, waiting for the moment that he’d find me and hurt me like he used to every night.

“Oh god,” I whispered, wrapping my arms around my knees, hugging them to my body and letting the tears stream down my face. I sat there for a few moments, trying to calm myself down, gripping my hands tightly, trying to stop them from shaking. I felt like a couldn’t breathe, my heart was pounding, my anxiety rising. Climbing out of bed, I slipped on a pair of shorts and rushed out of the bus, grabbing my phone and shoes on the way out.

Once outside, I felt like I could breathe again. I took a few deep breaths, while helped in calming myself down. I remembered when the nightmares first started, I’d wake up and the only thing that would help would be a walk. I probably shouldn’t be walking out here alone but I needed to get out. I knew from earlier, there was a small diner probably a 5-10-minute walk away from the venue we were staying at tonight. Coffee sounded amazing at the moment so I was all for it.

As I walked along the footpath, I mentally cursed at myself for forgetting a jacket. The weatherman was full of shit. It’ll be a warm night tonight my ass. It’s fucking freezing and here I am walking around in short ass shorts and a t-shirt. Fucking stupid. I hugged myself and continued walking. Soon, I was able to see the diner in the distance but an uneasy feeling had settled in the pit of my stomach. I frowned and looked around. When I couldn’t see anything, I shook my head and continued my walk. I was being super paranoid for no reason. Letting a small chuckle leave my lips, I swiftly moved along the footpath, the smell of coffee hitting my nostrils. I smiled but my smile soon disappeared when I started to hear heavy footsteps behind me. A lump formed in my throat and my pulse got quicker. I looked back to see the same tall hooded figure that I bumped into at the club. A whimper fell from my lips as I picked up my pace and started running toward the diner. His footsteps picked up their pace too and became faster.

I ran faster, almost at the diner, when suddenly I fell, tripping over a crack in the concrete. I looked back, panicking, watching him as he got closer to me. Shaking my head, I scrambled to my feet and ran. I raced across the street without even paying attention, throwing the door to the diner open and stepping inside. I leant against the door and gasped for breath. “Are you okay sweetie?”

My eyes snapped open to find a pair of green/brown eyes looking back. I nodded, sending her a weak smile. “Yeah, can I just get some coffee?” I asked, catching my breath.

“Sure sweetie, take a seat…well anywhere, I’ll be right back.”

I thanked her and made – well limped- my way down to a booth in the back. I slid in and threw my head back against the seat. Fuck, that was close. A few seconds later, the waitress was back with a cup and a pot of steaming coffee. She gave me a smile and filled the cup up before attending to the customers. I stirred some sugar into my coffee and took a sip, almost spilling it on myself when I glanced out the window and found the hooded figure, standing underneath a well-lit streetlamp, watching me from across the street.

My pocket vibrated and I found a text message from the same unknown number.

Unknown 3:21am
Milly, you can run but you can’t hide. I have all night.

I let out a soft whimper and closed my eyes, willing the tears away. No, no, no, no, no! No, this can’t be happening. No, he was meant to be in jail. Looking across the street, I found him standing in the same place as before, he lifted his hand and pulled his hoodie down, revealing his face. A sinister smile graced his face as he sent me a wave.

I needed to get back to the bus but I wasn’t about to step foot outside, not with that manic outside. Picking my phone up, I looked through my contacts, dialling the first number I saw. “Hello,” a muffled voice answered after a few rings.

“Brian?” I asked in a shaky tone.

“Emilia?”

“Brian, can you come get me?” I asked, my voice breaking.

“Emilia, what? Where are you?” He asked more alert.

“Please, Brian, I’m at the diner down the road.”

“Lia, what’s going on?”

“Brian, please?!” I begged. “I need you!”

“Okay, I’ll be there in a few minutes.”

“O-okay,” I whispered. “Thank you.”

He muttered a small sure and hung up. I sighed and held my head in my hands. Brian was already asking questions and this was only going to make him ask more. A few minutes later, I felt someone sit beside me and reach out to touch me. I jumped and pushed them away, only to realise that it was Brian. He looked at me concerned and reached out to me. Looking up at him, I fell into his arms and cried. “Shush,” he whispered, holding me tightly. “I got you, Emilia. I’m right here.”

“I’m sorry,” I muttered, gripping his shirt tightly.

Brian pulled back slightly and moved some hair from my face. “No, Lia, it’s okay. Don’t be sorry. I’ll be here for you no matter what, okay?”

I nodded and sniffled. Brian grabbed a napkin and wiped at my face and nose, giving me a soft smile. “Even with your makeup smeared all over the place and snot hanging from your nose, you’re still beautiful.”

I shook my head and chuckled. “No, I’m not,” I muttered. “You’re drunk.”

Brian laughed, cradling my head in his hands. “If I say you’re beautiful then I mean it, baby,” he whispered.

I nodded and hugged him tightly. “Thanks, Bri,” I whispered.

“So, what’s going on Lia? What was with the phone call?”

I let out a sigh and looked out across the street, seeing nobody there. Closing my eyes, I sniffled and looked up at Brian. “Do you trust me?” I muttered softly.

He nodded, looking at me with concerned eyes. “Of course, I do Lia. What’s going on?”

“I will tell you Brian but not right now. I’m not ready. Please?”

Brian let out a sigh and closed his eyes briefly before opening them and looking down at me sadly. “Okay,” he whispered. “I’ll be here when you’re ready.”

I gave a weak smile before tucking my face into the crook of his neck and breathing in his cologne.
