Unwritten

The boys brought me back home and there Matt was. I hope he had a good time with...WAIT! Is that Mom's car? As soon as the boys slowed the car enough for me to jump out, i ran past Matt and into the house. I caught a glimpse of his face and he looked angry as soon as he saw my dress.
"MOM?!" I yelled through the first floor. I wished she told me when she was coming back, i would've cooked something.
"Outside Darling!" I was about to go outside but then i realized what i was wearing.
"Um..Let me get presentable for you. I can't have my mother seeing me like a slob."
"Ha ha it's fine, but if you insist."
Thank god i could get this dress off before Matt saw it again. I rushed up to my room and threw it off as fast as i can and chose another, more appropriate dress. Then i went back downstairs in a hurry to come outside.
"Mom, It's really nice to see you. I didn't know you were coming back so soon." Then i saw what she had set up at the table. "What is this for?"
"For you, i know you've had a hard time while i was gone and i feel terrible for not helping you."
"Um, thanks. But i've been fine."
"Honey," She patted the chair next to her and i sat down, "I know about you're so called boyfriend."
"Did Matt tell you?"
"No, not really. I came home and found the two talking and Matt clued me in on what he found out but the man still wouldn't admit it, so i took matters in my own hand." My face fell, i knew my mom and i know what she is capable of. I hope Joe doesn't do anything to me." He admitted everything, and i got it all on tape. So your..ex-boyfriend...won't be around to hurt you anymore. I understand why you didn't tell anyone, but it's all right now. So let's drop this subject and have some lunch."
"Oh, thank you so much! I know i should've handled it on my own but i can't. I can't hurt people."
"I know, and that's why you're special." She kissed the top of my forehead and served me a plate.
"But mom."
"Hmm?"
"Please don't put him jail. Over the time i was forced to be with him, i understood him. Putting him in jail would make everything worse. Please, jail is not the help he needs. He needs counseling."
"I can't do that. A rule is a rule. After what he has done, he has to go to jail and i can't turn a blind eye."
"But you can drop charges."
"Olivia!"
"Please! I know i should hate him, but i feel sympathy for him. He just needs the help, something to help him and his anger. Going to jail would ruin him. Everyone deserves a second chance. He can have a second chance if he only the help he needs." She looked at me in her cold, hard eyes but then they became soft.
"Very well. I won't send him to jail. But he will participate in community service and i will speak to his parents to get him the help he needs. Does that sound fair."
"Yes! Thank you."
"You really have a kind heart. Don't ever let anyone take that light away from you." We ate and caught up with what was going on in school now. She told me about some of her cases and how crazy this one lady was. I liked hearing her stories, she always found a way to win. "I don't think i can put this up any longer, but you should talk to your brother."
"Oh gosh."
"It's okay, i told him before to understand that you couldn't have done anything." I got up from the chair and took our plates to the sink. Matt was already waiting on the couch. He didn't notice me come inside but even when i sat next to him he still didn't say anything.
