Fire Inside

Man I hated this shit, I can’t really do anything by myself but its ok because today I'm going back to the hospital to get checked out. I was waiting on Benji right now because he’s the one that’s been helping me out. ‘Dev?’ I heard him call out ‘living room!’ I called back and looked back at him when I saw him ‘ready to get that thing off?’ ‘God I hope so’ ‘me to, let’s get going’ he said and helped me into the chair; we got into his car then drove the twenty minutes to the hospital. We just went in the ER doors because that’s where the doctor that took care of me worked

‘Ah Devin! Good to see you, who’s this?’ ‘Oh this is my friend Benji, he’s been helping me while my fiancé is on tour’ ‘nice to meet you Benji’ ‘you too’ he said and they shook hands ‘ok let’s get that cast off and get an X-Ray’ he said and brought me over to a room and helped me onto the bed. ‘I’ll be right back, I'm gonna go grab the saw’

‘I'm sorry did you say saw?’ ‘Oh don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt’ he said then walked away, I looked up at Benji and he smiled at me ‘why don’t you take a picture before they take it off?’ he said and I nodded then pulled out my phone and handed it to him, he took a few from some different angles then handed it back to me just as the doctor came back with two nurses.

‘Alright, let’s get to it’ he said as he sat on the stool ‘hey can I keep it?’ I asked and he just raised an eyebrow at me ‘what? It’s cool and it’s the only cast I've ever gotten plus all my friends have written on it’ I said and he nodded ‘alright, I’ll do the best I can to preserve it’ ‘thanks doc’ I smiled and he smiled back then put his mask on and started up the saw.

It was only a few minutes before it was off ‘holy that smells’ I said and covered my nose a little ‘yeah that happens because you can’t wash it and you have stitches’ he said and I nodded then looked up at Benji, he had his hand over his nose also ‘ok were actually gonna clean your leg after we get the X-Ray just in case it isn’t healed yet’ ‘alright’ I nodded and they took me to X-Ray making Benji wait in my room for me, it only took about ten minutes until the X-Ray and I were done and wheeled back to the room.

The doctor came in and up my picture up on the light bored and looked at it ‘well?’ ‘Looks like you need another cast’ ‘awww man, really?’ ‘Yeah, it’s not quite healed yet and I'm not taking any chances’ ‘alright, can I keep the picture too?’ ‘I’ll get you a copy how’s that?’ ‘Okie dokie’ I nodded and he smiled at me then told the nurse to go grab the cast stuff and to wash my leg before putting it on.

‘Well at least you’ll be on crutches’ ‘this is true and I can move back upstairs’ ‘I’d hold off on that’ Benji said and I sighed and nodded ‘you're probably right’ ‘of course I am’ he smiled and I just shook my head ‘here take some pictures before they put it back on’ I said and handed him my phone again, he took more pictures then gave it back. The doctor and nurse came back and he sat on the stool

‘We can remove the stitches’ ‘really? Awesome!’ I said happily and he smiled then started taking them out as the nurse got the stuff ready, they cleaned my leg off then put the cast on from my toes to just under my knee and of course I made Benji take more pictures ‘now normally we’d give you a boot so you don’t need the crutches but since you do have pins I want you to stay on the crutches, come back in six weeks and we’ll do everything again’ he said

I nodded then sat up and got off the bed careful to not put my leg down as they got the crutches to my height. Once everything was ready I got Benji to carry my cast and X-Ray then we headed out and back to the house, he helped me into the house and set my cast and picture on the coffee table ‘alright, I have to go but text me if you need me’ ‘I will, thanks’ I said and he nodded then hugged me and left.

I sent one of each picture to Matt and after he got them he called me ‘when do you have to go back?’ ‘Six weeks so like right before you get back’ ‘sweet, what else did he say?’ ‘Not much really, I got to keep my cast and he gave me a copy of my X-Ray’ ‘that’s so cool, were gonna have to find a place to put it’ ‘I was thinking we could get a shadow box and put it in there so it doesn’t fall apart’ ‘that would be cool and we can frame the X-Ray’ ‘I didn’t even think of that’ I said and he laughed a little, we talked a bit more than he had to get ready for sound check.

I made myself some lunch, with difficulty might I add but I did it then I continued to watch the shows that Matt got me, I was almost finished everything. I had finished Charmed and Angel and was on like the second to last season of Smallville. And yes I was still doing my college stuff and planning the wedding but we couldn’t have it until I was able to walk properly again so I cancelled our venue, but that’s really the only thing I had to cancel because I didn’t do anything else yet, I was still deciding and writing things down in my journal.

::Six Weeks Later::

I'm on my way back to the hospital now thank god, I finished all my shows like two weeks away and still can’t go up and down the stairs so I’m getting really really bored. Benji drove me there and we went through the same process, cast off and more X-Rays ‘how’s it look doc?’ I asked and he smiled over at me ‘all fixed, no more casts’

‘Woohoo!’ ‘Now, let’s see if you can stand on it’ he said and I nodded then got off the bed, I held onto Benji then placed my leg all the way down to the floor and put some pressure on it ‘ohhh that’s weird’ ‘does it hurt?’ ‘Um, not really I guess, more like I'm a little shakey’ ‘that’s understandable, you haven’t walked for about four months’ ‘yeah, when will it go away?’
‘You should be fine in a few weeks but don’t try running or walking long distances. I’d try standing for a while first just to get your strength back then you should be fine’

‘alright, thank you so much’ ‘you're welcome, if you're having any trouble then come back’ ‘I will, thank you’ I smiled and hugged him, he hugged back then went to help other people. ‘Come let’s get you home’ Benji said and I nodded, I pulled my shoe back on for the first time in months then leaned against Benji a little, he wrapped his arm around my waist and helped me as we walked back to the car.

When we got home he helped me inside and into the kitchen where I saw Matt standing and drinking some water ‘Matt!’ I said happily, he smiled and walked over to me and picked me up in a hug ‘ugh I missed you!’ ‘I missed you to! Hey your casts off’ ‘mhm, that’s where we just got back from’ I said and he nodded then set me down

‘the doctor said she’s not going to have a lot of strength in her leg since she hasn’t really walked in four months, she’s not a loud to run or walk long distances but he said that if she wants, she can stand for a few hours a day and that will help get her strength back’ Benji explained and Matt nodded and thanked him for looking after me, they talked for a bit then Benji had to leave.

I was leaned up against the kitchen counter looking down at my leg ‘hey’ I heard and I looked up at Matt ‘just looks weird seeing my real leg again’ ‘yeah I bet, I'm sorry I wasn’t here to help you’ ‘it’s ok, at least you can carry me now’ I smiled and he rolled his eyes and picked me up in his arms,

I giggled and wrapped my arms around his neck as he walked into the living room and sat down with me on his lap ‘I've missed you’ he whispered against my neck, I smiled and turned towards him a little ‘I've missed you too’ ‘yeah?’ ‘Mhm, I didn’t have anybody to cook for’ I joked and he glared playfully at me then started to tickle me making me scream and try to fight him off since I couldn’t run away.

I was in a very awkward position when the guys came running in because they heard me screaming ‘dude don’t kill her!’ Zack said loudly, I laughed and looked up at them considering the back of my head and shoulders were on the floor and the rest of me was still on Matt or the couch, I held my arms out to him and he pulled me up and back onto his lap ‘hey your casts off’ Jimmy said and I nodded

‘this morning, I can barely walk though’ I said and they nodded and I told them what the doc said and how he let me keep both casts and both X-Rays. ‘Oh my god you know what I just realized?’ I said and they all looked at me ‘I can take an actual shower again!’ I said happily and got off of Matt’s lap and hopped over to the guest room to shower.

I got to finally shave my leg which was amazing because it was getting very gross and I wasn’t happy but anyways, I finished up and stepped out then wrapped a towel around myself and limped into the room to get dressed in shorts and a tank top. I walked slowly back into the living room seeing that everyone was still there ‘feel better?’ Matt asked, I nodded and limped over to the couch and sat down by him ‘I'm gonna need to bring all my stuff back upstairs later’

‘ok no worries’ he nodded and I leaned my head against his arm. The guys hung out for a few hours then let us have some time to ourselves ‘so I guess you're not cooking tonight huh?’ ‘No probably not’ I said and he nodded then stood up ‘where are you going?’ ‘I'm getting the pizza menu’ he said and I laughed a little and watched as he walked into the kitchen, I turned on the tv and looked through the guide.

‘Anything good on?’ ‘Not really, oh wait, Deep Blue Sea is about to start’ I said and he sat down next to me with the menu ‘what do you want?’ he asked, I took the menu from him and scanned it over ‘pepperoni pizza and some of those cinnamon sticks’ I said and he nodded then placed the order on line,

we cuddled up on the couch and watched the first twenty minutes then the doorbell rang and since we had that pause thingy I paused it and let him up to grab the pizza. He came back and placed the food on the coffee table then grab us something to drink

I opened up the cinnamon sticks and poured the icing over top of them ‘here you go baby’ Matt said when he came back and handed me a can of diet coke; I smiled and took it then set on the table also. I licked the icing off my finger then opened up the pizza box ‘mmm that smells amazing’ I moaned and he chuckled a little then leaned forward and kissed my cheek ‘I love you’ ‘I love you too, here’ I said and handed him a piece, he took it and I took mine then we went back to watching the movie.
